Creator Spotlight - Beardageddon

We catch up with one of the sea’s most popular and enduring bearded buccaneers!

A day one pirate, this undaunted content creator is a true legend of the Sea of Thieves, even earning himself a tribute via the Legacy Beard in-game cosmetic. From his solo Sloop antics to his shenanigans on larger crews, he’s very much at home on the waves in-game and also enjoys adventuring near the sea when not in the game. We thought it was about time we turned the Spotlight on the wonderful Beardageddon!

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: I believe it was watching my dad and my brother play Chuckie Egg on the Commodore 64.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: Initially I was never going to play Sea of Thieves until one of my moderators suggested it to me. I thought it looked silly. I was right about it being silly, but for the wrong reasons, and I’m so glad he bought it for me and I’m part of this community now.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: I used to just create content on YouTube but I didn’t like how I couldn’t have that personal connection with my audience. I met a streamer through creating a YouTube video, and from there I joined Twitch and never looked back!

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: I never really made a conscious decision on what type of content to create. I just try to enjoy myself, have fun and hope that my audience do as well.

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: I've fallen out of love with games before and been unsure of what direction to take next. I’ve also found that the social side of being a content creator can be extreme and, at times, quite taxing. I haven't seen some of my friends in many years, but I love what I do and supporting my family through my art is the most important thing in the world to me.

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: I have a YouTube channel and a Twitch channel!

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: This is always a difficult question to answer as so many memories are special to me in the game. I think the one that stands out for me the most though, and the one I’ll never forget, is facing the original Megalodon and managing to kill it solo.

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: I have always loved and will always love the naval combat. It just defines Sea of Thieves as a game, and nothing comes close to it in my opinion. Season Eight has been like a breath of fresh air and I have that pre-release Sea of Thieves feeling back, where the game just feels new and fresh, even after 10,000 hours of playtime.

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: Being a part of the Sea of Thieves community since day one and having Rare put a model of my beard into the game. After all these years it’s still mind-blowing to me that a part of me gets to exist in the game!

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: I really liked the idea of the channel being called Armageddon. I figured that would probably be taken, so my logical thought process was which limb or body part is just as important to me as my arm? Armageddon, Headageddon… Beardageddon.

[Q]: What do you like to get up to when you’re not streaming?

[A]: I'm a family man, so spending time with my family, being out with my son and looking after my dog are always my priorities and highlights of any time away from content creation. I also like anything to do with the ocean.

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: It's an incredibly oversaturated market. You should go in with realistic expectations, have fun and above all else just try to remember that the journey is more important than the destination.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: I would advise a content creator never to get into it for the money, as money might be something that they never see from creating content. Most importantly, never sacrifice a stable income to get into content creation.

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: Up until about the age of 32 I could not eat baked beans.
