Creator Spotlight – Róisín

Get some creation (and pronunciation!) insights from a keen VTuber on our Stream Team…

We’re back again to turn the Creator Spotlight on another member of the Sea of Thieves Stream Team as we continue to highlight some of our smaller community creators. This week’s streamer has navigated the seas of content creation with creativity and charisma, so we wanted to sit down to talk about her memorable moments, how the journey began and what’s in store for her next. Meet Róisín!

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: I was five years old when I played a game for the first time. I vividly recall playing Lego Star Wars on the Wii one Christmas! From then on, I became obsessed with all things gaming. I mostly enjoy challenging games, or ones that present the player with interactions from other people playing the game.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: I was introduced to Sea of Thieves through the viral “Captain! Look!” clip. My first few sessions went chaotically, and I vividly remember loading onto a solo Galleon and sinking just as I left Sanctuary Outpost. But I thought the sandbox open world was thrilling and had some brilliant encounters which led to me becoming more involved in the community.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: I originally started streaming on the PS4 in 2017, as it had quite accessible options at the time. For the first year or so I didn’t really take it that seriously, but then some of the friendships I forged through streaming and gaming really opened my eyes to what you can accomplish by putting your content out there.

Going in for the kill! Róisín loves a challenge and relishes player interactions while out on the seas.

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: I realised Sea of Thieves is the player’s sandbox and there are so many stories you can tell within it, so I decided to create short-form and long-form content based on player interactions or action-packed sessions. Because the game is rich with content, there’s no limit to what I can do in terms of content creation!

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: One of the biggest challenges I faced was starting fresh. I had an old channel, but I deactivated it due to personal reasons. I then decided I wanted to come back two years later, so I had to rebuild everything from scratch. Connecting with old friends and creating a new community was indeed my biggest setback, but even then, I continued to strive to move forward.

I’d also say burnout was another thing holding me back, but I’ll take breaks and play other titles if I feel that way now.

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: Currently I have my Twitch channel RoisinVT and my YouTube channel RóisínVT. On Twitch I tend to do long streams and mainly play Sea of Thieves, but I do play other titles too! My YouTube channel is mostly focused on short-form content, however I do have bigger projects in the pipeline so watch this space! Other than that, you can find me on Bluesky as roisintherose.

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: The most memorable Sea of Thieves moment for me isn’t really defined as one but more a handful of experiences. I once met The Longest Johns, and they sang a shanty to a crewmate and me. My crewmate and I saved Rare’s Andrew Preston and Steven Frost from sinking in an Hourglass battle and they gave us Rare fireworks.

However, most importantly, I’d say going to SoTFest. The team is lovely and works hard year-round to allow us to connect with fellow community members and celebrate all things Sea of Thieves. While not entirely an in-game experience, attending it has been one of my most memorable experiences so far. I do have others, but the ones mentioned are a few personal favourites!

Róisín’s memorable moments include meeting The Longest Johns and venturing to SoTFest.

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: I enjoy sailing around with my crewmates and befriending new pirates, and also the new content added to the game in Season 14 such as the disguises and blowpipes. I’ve already managed to sneak aboard a few ships and troll my crewmates with the Lure Dart! I’m excited to see which other ways I can shake up the gameplay using these features.

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: I’d say my commitment to 100% completion of Red Dead Redemption 2. I’ve had the game since release, and I’m slowly closing in on not only getting the Platinum Trophy but also completing the in-game tasks.

I’d also say getting to pay tribute to Jim White with the Legend of Glitterbeard Commendations in Sea of Thieves. I spent a whole day going around the vast map and reading the journals left behind and then formed a natural Alliance with some pirates, and it was a very emotional experience and something I’ll never forget.

Always forming alliances and friendships on her adventures across the seas!

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: I based my channel on my real name because it’s personal to me and I think that it’s a good way to put yourself out there. I did have some ridiculous usernames in the past, but I think this one is professional and concise. The VT in my username stands for VTuber, which is a way of expressing and presenting myself online without the pressure of a webcam on stream.

[Q]: What do you like to get up to when you’re not making videos?

[A]: When I'm not streaming or making videos, I love to spend time with my partner and watch anime and TV shows. I highly rate One Piece, I’m currently at episode 700! We also really love building Lego and playing cosy games together. Other than that, I like to attend gaming and pop culture events and watch the latest films at the cinema. I recently saw Transformers One, it's a fabulous movie and stays true to the original source material of Transformers.

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: The main advice I’d give is to put your stuff out there! People want to hear your stories and experiences within games and online, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. There’s no limit to what you can and can’t create, I used to let myself think that. Just keep consistent and don’t rely solely on streaming every day. Create videos and regular posts to let people know where and when you’re available, make sure to connect with others the best you can, and have fun!

Ready to take on the world! Róisín has overcome many challenges while forging a path in content creation.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: I advise new content creators not to focus on numbers such as viewer count or views, have fun with it and treat it as a hobby. Remember to be yourself, people will like you if you’re true to who you are. Treat others how you wish to be treated, you will face negativity but don’t let it get you down or under your skin. It’s best to crack on with your projects and keep a positive mindset.

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: My name is pronounced ROH-sheen! A lot of people say Roisin like hoisin sauce!
