Creator Spotlight - PedroDBR

In our latest Creator Spotlight we have the Brazilian brawler, PedroDBR! We asked him some questions about his Voyages across the seas so far, and what experiences those travels have brought him.

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: From what I remember, it was Pirates of the Caribbean and Age of Empires on my cousin's computer in 2005, so what introduced me was actually PotC rather than the movies that were coming out at the time. Since I was a kid I’ve had of a lot of love for pirates due to the fact that my dad was already a fan and had a boat, and what was incredible was that he took me sailing in Ilha Bela, São Paulo. It was an amazing sensation.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: In 2017, BGS (Brasil Game Show) was the first time I played the game and it was incredible. Finally a new game about pirates! After the Beta launch I started to make videos and streams which made me want to create a Sea of Thieves community on my YouTube channel. At the time I played Minecraft and many other games, my own skin on Minecraft is a pirate that I made, and I love everything pirate-related. Sea of Thieves brought so much happiness to my community on YouTube which is full of pirate fans.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: I started to make videos of Minecraft in 2011, but 2014 was the year that I discovered my channel was going well as in one month I was able to gain 30K subscribers and for that time it was a lot. So after that I started to work more on my content and make more videos.

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: I choose really easily – I make a video that I like, and it doesn’t matter if the game is really popular or has a lot of views, if I don’t like a game or the context I won’t do it. Since 2011 when I had my first YouTube channel I’ve always gone after what I really like, and what’s incredible is that it’s almost 10 years that I’ve been making Minecraft content and I still love it. When Sea of Thieves came out in 2018 it brought a lot of happiness to me. I love making SoT videos, it’s one of my favorite games to actually bring into videos and streams.

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: From 2011 to 2013 was a super-hard time for me, since it was the start of my channel and I am in a country where it’s really hard to obtain things. I had a computer and internet, but both were really bad for making videos and they took two days to record, edit and upload. At that time I was going to school, so I used to stay up in the mornings working on my videos and go to school afterwards. So I didn’t have a lot of time and I thought it wouldn’t work because of my computer and the time it took to make videos. I almost gave up until my YouTube channel actually started to grow a lot. As time passed by, I got money to invest in a computer and better internet so then I could help my family.

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: Currently I make videos on YouTube and stream on Twitch . My Sea of Thieves content that I put out on YouTube usually comes from my streams on Twitch, but well edited to make sure it’s epic for the audience.

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: Wow, what a complicated question... I’ve already stolen from the Fort of the Damned with a lot of stacked items, stolen Athena and Gilded Athena stuff, found an Ancient Skeleton, sunk five ships that were with an Alliance and stolen a haul of 100,000 with Jon and Pikaaroon, that was amazing.

But the most memorable battle was when the game first came out in March 2018… four ships fighting for the Fort, the battle was going really hard but at the end I was able to steal the key when the boss died, and my friends Toddynho and Salazar had the idea to hide the key in a shipwreck. After a lot more battles, we went back to the sunken ship… but when we got there it had already gone, and everyone had given up looking except me. I kept going back to the same place the shipwreck had been, and then I saw... the key was floating in the sea! It took more than four hours just for that, and it was so satisfying to win that battle when the game had just launched. You can see the first part and the final part of this on my YouTube channel.

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: Currently I like to steal from other pirates, it’s so good to work with your crew – for example, to try to steal the Gilded Athena or normal Athena Voyage, hiding in ships, it’s super-fun and the viewers also love to watch. In the future I wish to see the Brazilian Sea of Thieves community grow and gain more people who would like to play the game.

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: With all certainty, becoming the first Brazilian to be partnered with Sea of Thieves. I’m truly grateful to be a partner of one of the games that I really love. I need to thank all of you from Rare and also my community, for sure one of the best games that I’ve played in all my life.

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: This is very simple! At first I only wanted to put my name Pedro, but I thought it was so basic, why not add the initials of my last name (DBR)... that’s also really simple. Overall it was straightforward but different, ‘PedroDBR’ – and for the people who thought the ‘DBR’ is ‘do Brasil’, you’ve just discovered the truth!

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: Do what you like, don’t do anything for the money or fame, be yourself, treat people who watch you well and make new content frequently for the people, and try to build up a community. If you ever feel bad or sad or upset, always remember you are able to make people happy with your content.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: Try to not get into any trouble with any people or other content creators, this can ruin your career. Don’t make any content that you don’t like making just to get famous or get money, always respect everyone and everything. After all, people are going to be watching your content. It’s always good being nice :D

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: I’ve already watched Pirates of the Caribbean 2 more than 50 times, the name of my cat is Jack because of Jack Sparrow, I’ve won a soccer championship as a goalkeeper and I also love Japanese food.
