Meet twin crafters giving physical form to some of their favourite Sea of Thieves treasures!

Sisters in real life and on the seas, this duo share a passion for crafting and prop-making, turning their love for gaming into a creative outlet. From small island dioramas to life-sized treasure chests, their journey is filled with fun and fascinating projects. And so our latest Spotlight is turned upon the dynamic creative team of Chloe and Aimee from ChloeSaurasCrafts!

[Q]: Can you tell us a little about what got you into gaming?

[A]: Me and my sister had a PS1, but it was my brother who got us into Xbox. We tried to play the very first Halo and it didn’t go well! I remember when we first got our own Xbox 360 with Halo 3 and Gears of War, some of our best gaming memories!

[Q]: Were you a Rare fan before Sea of Thieves? Do you have any favourite Rare games?

[A]: I had heard of Rare before Sea of Thieves, I remember when Rare Replay got released, but I hadn’t played any other games.

[Q]: What other games are you currently playing? Any favourites?

[A]: One of my absolute favourite game series is Darksiders, it’s a fantastic series which follows the Four Horsemen. I’m currently playing a mix of games including Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Planet Coaster 2 and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora which is a beautiful game, definitely one of my top games!

Aimee’s favourite game series are Assassin’s Creed and Halo. Halo is one of the games we’ve both played for years, it’s brought us many amazing memories and we’ve made some amazing friends too.

[Q]: What brought you over to Sea of Thieves and its community?

[A]: I played the Alpha and signed up as soon as I saw the teaser trailers at E3. I remember playing it with Aimee and having an absolute blast with all the different silly things you could do. I felt really inspired to start creating from the game later in 2018, which then brought me to the community as I started posting online all the things I’d started making. We also attended EGX in 2017 where Sea of Thieves had a demo, we were able to play it with our friends and got told we were the best co-ordinated crew there!

Where it all began! Chloe and Aimee’s first Sea of Thieves creation was this cute diorama.

[Q]: Can you remember the first Sea of Thieves piece you worked on?

[A]: Yes, it was a small island diorama with a Captain’s Chest, I still have it! It’s amazing to see how much me and Aimee have improved over the years. The island was just a small piece of plastic covered in sand and sea and I made two palm trees. Shortly after, when The Devil’s Roar was released, I made an island based on that region with light-up crystals and even a Rowboat. The Rowboat was a challenge to make, it was made from a cereal box, foil and air dry clay!

[Q]: What has been the most challenging piece you’ve done?

[A]: It would be the life-sized Chest of Legends. Looking back on it now that I’ve made so many it seems easy, but there were a lot of print failures and sizing adjustments we had to make to get it perfect. Living on a small island has its challenges too, trying to find the perfect set of lights so it could be lit up. I also remember the challenges of trying to make the lights shine through only certain parts of it. There was a lot of trial and error!

Chloe and Aimee consider the imposing Chest of Legends to be one of their more challenging builds.

[Q]: Do you have a favourite piece and are you working on anything new right now?

[A]: The first large-scale item we made was the Launch Crew Eye of Reach, this is my favourite as it’s also one of my favourite in-game weapons! Aimee’s would be her custom design Ferryman Eye of Reach. We are always looking to add new types of chest and weapons to the ones we’ve already created, but one other thing we are working on is a Sloop! I’ve always wanted to make a Sloop, we once tried to scale one to fit the mini loot items we make and it was going to be eight feet in length! I’m also working on a Darth Vader statue, it’s 1:6 scale and its way bigger than I thought it was going to be! I love painting statues, they’re one of my favourite things to make.

[Q]: Thinking back, are there any standout moments for you in Sea of Thieves since you started playing?

[A]: I would say when The Hungering Deep came out. It was incredible to have so many pirates working together to try and defeat the Megalodon, and I remember us all screaming with excitement when we finally killed it. That was an experience I could never forget.

[Q]: What are your favourite recent additions to Sea of Thieves?

[A]: Throwing knives! They are a lot of fun and I have to shout “Yeet” when I throw one to get the full effect! I love the Burning Blade too, it’s an awesome battle between ships as I enjoy the PvP. I love the design of the ship and how unique the encounters can be.

[Q]: What are your greatest achievements in a game, Sea of Thieves or otherwise?

[A]: First would be in Halo 3 and working towards getting the Vidmaster achievements, they were tough! In Sea of Thieves it would be when the Cursed Sails update came out, I spent hours grinding out fights against the Skelly Ships (which were really tough back then) to earn the exclusive cosmetics, the tattoos still being some of my favourites today.

Aimee’s greatest Sea of Thieves achievement was making Pirate Legend before the one-year anniversary, that was a grind! I just made it 10 days after the anniversary had passed.

[Q]: If you had to choose a pirate and ship name, what would they be?

[A]: My ship is called the Boat-A-Sauras Wreck because I love dinosaurs and most of the time I’m sinking. I haven’t really thought about a name for my pirate, though a few years ago I did write a small fanfic for her, about how she was a sailor who got obsessed with greed and became a Skeleton Lord who would only spawn in a storm. I thought the idea of a boss fight spawning in the storm would be kinda awesome.

[Q]: What kind of other hobbies do you enjoy outside of gaming?

[A]: I enjoy crafting, I love bringing to life gaming props and being able to hold a 1:1 scale prop is amazing. I like to read when I can, I enjoy fantasy-type books, and I have been reading the Harry Potter series. Aimee loves building model kits and we both love collecting figurines and statues from our favourite game and film series, especially if it’s Batman or Doctor Strange-related!

Identical twins and their mascots! Chloe and Aimee always take Tea and Biscuit to events.

[Q]: Share a fun fact about yourself. Anything is fair game!

[A]: Me and my sister Aimee are identical twins! I also have two dinosaur mascots, Tea and Biscuit! Biscuit (yellow dino) was originally going to be called Custard Cream and wasn’t meant to be my mascot at first. Tea (green dino) was bought later on, and he was supposed to be called Leaf! It’s funny how much they have changed and become such a big part of what Aimee and I have built today.
