Creator Spotlight - LazyBuzzard

Musical mariner and builder of the Buzzard Nest – meet one of our latest streaming Partners!

He claims his pirate was forged by Odin to rid the seas of pirates who sink Tall Talers, but if you hang out in his chat long enough you’ll see his community think it’s the Tall Talers who should fear him! Of course, there’s much more to this full-time content creator who also happens to be a maestro on the harmonica, so we thought it was time to say a proper hello to LazyBuzzard.

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: Growing up with older siblings I had access to a Nintendo NES! I didn’t realise that what I was playing at the time would become such an iconic retro console now. I loved playing the original Super Mario Bros. and this awesome game called Probotector with my older sister. I have so many memories from that time.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: Whilst I was part of the testing phase for Sea of Thieves and played it on day one, I didn’t truly become part of the community until taking part in LDSylvr’s The Boomer Games. This was the first time the Sea of Thieves community watched me perform ‘The Boxy Jam’, an improv piece on the harmonica, which then led to me covering numerous Sea of Thieves shanties and the harmonica/fun nature of my streams becoming something that people associated with me.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: It was during the first lockdown, when so many of us had to stay at home due to Covid. I’ve always loved playing video games, and figured why not have a go at streaming them? Having performed live as a musician in the past, I approached streaming in the same way: with a goal to entertain and show people a good time whilst having fun with my friends (I’m all about making everything I do fun, not super-serious).

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: When it comes to Sea of Thieves I am very much a PvPvE player. I like to embrace everything the game has to offer, which in turn offers a variety of content when streaming. I love organic interactions with other players, seeing a ship in the distance and wondering if they will want to talk or cross swords! And of course, my harmonicas and guitar are always close by.

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: Honestly, and this one is probably relatable for so many other creators... looking at numbers. Whilst I believe numbers have a place especially when content creation is your full-time focus, how you let it affect you emotionally is something you must keep an eye on, remembering that it’s not a reflection on you if one stream is quieter than another etc. Remember to look after yourself!

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: Right now, I stream on Twitch five days a week and upload to YouTube/TikTok most days (I aim to really push my YouTube content this year). I use Twitter daily, and post to Instagram (Facebook will be synced to Instagram by the time this Spotlight is released)!

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: Opening up for the 2022 SpecialEffect GameBlast was one of them. This was streamed on Sea of Thieves TV with an amazingly wholesome moment where I performed ‘Becalmed’ next to Glitterbeard’s tree (thank you for the fireworks display in the background, HiddenGFX). As if being asked to be on Sea of Thieves TV for Community Day wasn’t enough, both events had some amazing moments!

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: I love the fact that my ship The Raging Hildr was able to come to life with the Captaincy update, and the roleplay opportunities that offered. As for what I’m looking forward to, I can’t wait to learn more about the mysterious ‘Cap’n’.

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: So, something I’m proud of the entire Buzzard Nest for doing (not just something I have accomplished myself) is raising awareness for positive mental health, which I'm 110 percent passionate about. Receiving messages from individuals who have gone to see a professional because of the awareness I and the rest of my community have raised is the most rewarding aspect of anything I do.

I'm also proud of becoming self-employed as a creator, as there was a time when I thought I would never work again due to my own fight with mental health.

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: I love birds of prey! Especially Common Buzzards in the UK. Buzzards are lazy = LazyBuzzard.

[Q]: What do you like to get up to when you’re not streaming?

[A]: Spending time with my family. I have an incredibly supportive wife (shout out to Dishy) and three amazing daughters. They all support me in what I do, and for that I am forever thankful. I love going to the cinema with Dishy, and anything tech-related! We also recognise the importance of getting away from all that though, and spending time outdoors with nature.

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: Be real, be genuine, be nothing but who YOU are and HAVE FUN! Also make sure you look after your health both physically and mentally. There will be bumps in the road, but how you deal with those bumps and how you let it affect you is what matters the most.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: Don’t be someone you’re not. When you meet a creator outside of Twitch at an event etc., you know which ones are true to themselves and which are not. And try your absolute hardest to take things like stream analytics with a pinch of salt, there are so many reasons why your channel may be going through a quiet period so don’t assume it’s you.

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: I share the same birthday as Sea of Thieves which is March 20th!

That rounds off another Creator Spotlight! A huge thank you to LazyBuzzard for taking the time to talk to us. We’re looking forward to seeing what 2023 brings from him and the whole Buzzard Nest…
