Creator Spotlight – Toxie Sinclaire

Step into the Spotlight and meet a streamer who embraces both silliness and serious hoarding!

One of the newest Partners to join the Sea of Thieves ranks earlier this year, this pirate is a both a meme queen and a menace on the seas. Now that she’s made a name for herself with her clever content and witty retorts, we thought it was about time we caught up with the cat-ear campaigner Toxie Sinclaire!

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: Sonic 2. Which just so happens to be the best Sonic game and I'm not biased!

The old Sonic games were especially good because they rewarded your knowledge of the game with being able to actually go fast, and not hit any obstacles. Funnily enough, Sea of Thieves rewards players for their knowledge of the game too. I like stuff like that a lot!

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: Becoming part of the community as a whole only happened for me once I had built my own community. I kept to myself for a long time, but now I feel really connected with a lot of people in this space and I couldn’t be happier.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: I have been into video editing for tooooo long, it’s just fun! I used to make AMVs and stuff as I really enjoy making fast-paced edits. So making YouTube content just became a natural fit for me. Becoming a streamer was a pure accident though. I did not expect to be as into it as I am!

Toxie formed friendships through the seas and accidentally became a content creator!

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: If there’s nothing new to do in Sea of Thieves, I usually end up coming up with something silly that I know would make for a fun YouTube video. A prime example of this would be when we brought all the gold back to the Shores of Gold! The Shores of Gold had never seen so much gold in its life!

This game is cool because it allows you to make creative content, even when there’s nothing new to do *stares at the Season Ten delay*

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: The bar for what I consider a good video has been raised, and that can lead to a feeling of inadequacy. I try to avoid such negative thoughts though, as I’ve had videos that I consider mediocre perform extremely well on YouTube. And conversely, I’ve had videos that I consider amazing perform poorly. Content creation really is a wild ride!

How much gold can the Shores of Gold hold?

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: I would never give away such a cool secret!

(As we’re not nearly as cool as Toxie, we will tell you such secrets! You can find her over on Twitch and YouTube.)

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: Probably the time we farmed Wraith Cannonballs. We had like nine of the things – took them into an Hourglass battle and literally fired five of them off back to back and instantly sunk the enemy ship. They were laughing too which made it even funnier!

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: My favourite thing about Sea of Thieves is that it allows you to be creative, which is extremely important for content creation. I’ll always point at the time my friends and I used the Black Pearl found at the end of the ‘Lords of the Sea’ Tall Tale to win three Hourglass matches.

As for things I’m looking forward to? Cat ears cosmetics for our pirates. It’s inevitable!

Toxie’s content combines exploring the game’s sandbox with being silly and having fun.

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: For a brief period during Pokémon Sword & Shield’s time in the sun, I reached a standing of 50 for online double battles with a very gimmicky self-destruct Snorlax team.

I won’t go into detail on how it worked but rest assured, any competitive Pokémon player reading this is shaking their head right now.

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: Toxie Sinclaire was actually the name I landed on a good few years ago when I was non-binary, as at the time I didn't have the strength to transition to a woman and pick an explicitly female name. I adore the name still and go by it in my day-to-day life too.

When I made my channel, I wanted to be me 100%. I wanted to put myself out there as authentically as possible. That's why I chose to use my chosen name.

Never one to shy away, Toxie stays true to herself through her content.

[Q]: What do you like to get up to when you’re not making videos?

[A]: Being silly 14 hours a day is a full-time job!

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: Learn how YouTube works. Learn about what makes a good video and you will find success if you keep trying. There is a very good reason the most successful YouTubers present their videos as a story. And this is even more important if you want to be a streamer! Growing on YouTube is the easiest way to become a Twitch streamer and I’m not joking.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: Chase trends. Evergreen videos should be your main goal. It’s okay to chase trends, but a piece of content that can stand on its own is infinitely more valuable.

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: I'm a trans woman please stop asking me in the comments LMAO!

And so ends another Creator Spotlight. A huge thank you to Toxie for taking the time to speak with us. We’re very excited to see what misadventures she gets up to next and we’ll pop a note over to our Art team with the cat ears request, although we’re not sure it’ll be that easy…
