Creator Spotlight - AweCoop

A force to be reckoned with and a family man all in one – meet our latest Spotlight subject!

Time for another Spotlight and another chance to highlight one of our Sea of Thieves Partners! This time we’re catching up with AweCoop, known for his PvP skills, his competitive edge and his high-energy streams filled with fun and fights, but ultimately a pirate with a heart of gold. We took the time to sit down for a chat so that the community could learn more about his journey across the seas…

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: My sisters are kinda what got me into gaming. Watching them play the original Mario Bros. was the start, and then with me playing Sega Genesis.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: I was playing another game at the time that was being closed down, and I saw the preview of Sea of Thieves and thought it was amazing! Me and my friend were hooked right away when we did EVERY Beta that was offered. I remember even playing for 36 hours straight one weekend when the Closed Beta was out. It was the most fun I had on a game in a VERY VERY long time!

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: I always wanted to make others laugh and I started creating content back in 2009-2013, but I was busy with other things IRL. Then in 2015 I went full-on with Call of Duty to be a content creator, but had to pull away for personal reasons after having a great start.

I was a tennis coach and ran and operated a tennis academy for almost 10 years (ages 19-29) with my wife, and all my students loved Fortnite, so being a past creator I started to stream and play with some of the other coaches from my camp. Then with the release of Sea of Thieves I was addicted and really wanted to move over to being a full-time creator, and sadly in 2020 with the pandemic I had to close down my academy, but the silver lining was moving to being a creator full-time.

AweCoop has always had a bit of a competitive streak when it comes to games!

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: I don’t think anyone really decides what kind of content to create, it just comes to you. For me at least it took me years to find my ‘voice’ and what to create, others might take days or even months. It just kinda hit me one day and I took inspiration from a ton of other creators like Nickmercs, TimTheTatman, Hamlinz and Angrypug, and then made it my own.

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: Time management has probably and will probably be the hardest challenge! I am a father of two, and time management can be no joke even without kids. Finding time to balance your real life and creating content is really hard, but I do love challenges and I have a very loving and supportive wife and family!

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: I have Twitch which I would call my ‘main’ channel, and now my YouTube channel has taken a ‘co-main’ spot this past year. I have Twitch @AweCoop, YouTube @AweCoop and @AweCoop2, Twitter @AweCoop, Facebook @AweCoop7, TikTok @AweCoop and Instagram @Awe_Coop.

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: I would say when TruEdits and I ran into a family (mom, dad and their two kids) on the seas after 24 hours of loot hauling and gave them ALL of the loot. Hearing them laugh and joke around about receiving all the loot was truly amazing!

Or the time that me and CJShiz ran into a kid who just was in remission for cancer and he LOVED Call of Duty esports and SCUF controllers (special controller all the pros use). I happen to have a bunch of controllers from my time as a former CoD esports player and ended up being able to send him a free controller. That was the first time I cried on stream.

Interactions with other crews make AweCoop light up, especially if they lead to a good steal!

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: I enjoy the interactions most right now. Honestly, that will always be my favourite thing in this game, not knowing who and what you will run into. Whether it’s a wholesome moment or a sweating trash talk moment (just banter HAHA), those are what make me enjoy the game the most! For the future, I would love to see something that makes the whole server stop what they are doing and go “wow, we need to try and get that”!

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: Making lifelong friends from it! I have met some amazing friends and to this day they’ve been some of my BEST relationships even outside gaming, to the point where some of them were groomsmen at my wedding.

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: Awe is an old clan tag for an esports org I use to run (AweSports), and Coop is a play on my name Cooper and was also my nickname growing up. Even to this day, all my friends IRL call me Coop.

[Q]: What do you like to get up to when you’re not making videos?

[A]: Spending time with family is the main thing I do. Going to the park with my son and daughter, hanging out with my wife and even spending time with all of our family (they all live a few minutes away).

AweCoop (Coop to his friends) made his name by staying true to himself while creating content.

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: Be yourself! This is simple, but the most meaningful thing is to be yourself no matter what. Don’t change because you might think they won’t like you, just be you for who you are!

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: DON’T GIVE UP! You need to always remember that it’s a grind and to NEVER give up! Your favourite big streamers, some of them had been doing it for 5-10 years before they made it, so don’t give up. If you love it, keep pushing forward!

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: Random fact, I love to play basketball. It’s one of my favourite sports to play, and sometimes I drive around my town to find random pickup games going on and join in.

So ends another Creator Spotlight. Huge thanks to AweCoop for taking the time to chat with us, and we look forward to catching more of his streams and videos in the near future – we’re sure he’d welcome you dropping by too!
