Community Spotlight – EliEelEye

Bump into this busy pirate in a Community Spotlight that spotlights whole communities!

Spotlight time is here again, and this time we're diving deep into the journey of a Sea of Thieves completionist with a penchant for karaoke. Known for his encyclopaedic knowledge of Sea of Thieves alongside musical outings both in-game and at fan events, it’s EliEelEye under the latest Community Spotlight!

[Q]: Can you tell us a little about what got you into gaming?

[A]: That would have to be Pokémon. When I was younger my cousin gave me a Wooper figurine, which sparked my love for Pokémon and later gaming in general.

[Q]: Were you a Rare fan before Sea of Thieves? Do you have any favourite Rare games?

[A]: Sea of Thieves was the first Rare IP I played but it also made me check out some of Rare’s previous releases, namely Banjo-Kazooie, Battletoads and Viva Piñata.

[Q]: What other games are you currently playing? Any favourites?

[A]: Other than Sea of Thieves I am currently playing Grounded, Perfect Heist 2 and other fun multiplayer games with my friends. I also enjoy narrative single-player games like Jedi: Survivor and Red Dead Redemption 2. The latter being a big favourite of mine; that story is simply amazing. Pokémon has also been a constant staple in my life, I play each game that gets added to the main series and try to complete as much as I can.

[Q]: What brought you over to Sea of Thieves and its community?

[A]: My friend told me about this fun pirate game called Sea of Thieves just before it released. Once it launched, I picked it up, played and had a lot of fun!

Eli has been playing since launch and built a large friendship group through various communities.

[Q]: You’re involved with many Sea of Thieves communities! How did you discover them all, and how can people go and check them out?

[A]: I got involved by interacting with people from various corners of the community. Some I met on the seas and got invited to their Discord servers and some I met through social media. The Sea of Thieves community is filled with amazing people and I consider quite a few of them to be friends of mine.

The first significant community I joined was The Wailing Banshee which I have been a member of for over five years now. There are some truly great people in there. The Wailing Banshee is generally a more closed community, but you can reach out to Gloombeard if you are interested in joining, and he will happily have a chat with you. Whilst this community is no longer only focused on Sea of Thieves, it still has its roots there and houses a lot of admirable and creative people.

Another amazing community I am a part of is The Pirate Armada, which is run by the incredibly creative SanderRoli. This Discord community hosts a ton of emotes that Roli has made!

The third server I wish to highlight is Completionists which is a great space for anyone striving to complete all the Commendations in the game, you can find an invite here.

Lastly, I would like to extend a shoutout to SoTFest. For three years now, the SoTFest Crew have put on some marvellous events for all pirates. I have had a blast each year and will continue to attend as long as I am able to, so expect to see me there this July. I implore everyone to come check it out.

[Q]: What’s been your favourite project to be involved in?

[A]: This is a hard question for me, from being a part of the Sea of Champions Staff team to becoming one of the first pirates to attain Visionary Artist of the Seas through winning #SoTShot 10 times, along with my crewmates Eobrah and Dekeita. I have taken part in several amazing projects, but I think my favourite must be making music parodies such as ‘Goodbye, Good Boy’ and ‘Splashtails’. Those music projects are so much fun to create, and it always feels good when the community appreciates them. I am certain I will make more in 2025.

Karaoke connoisseur Eli has serenaded the community with in-game songs and at SoTFest.

[Q]: After your performances at previous SoTFests, we must ask... what’s your favourite karaoke song?

[A]: My favourite karaoke song must be Dancing Queen by ABBA. As a Swede they have influenced my life a lot, and their vibes are simply immaculate!

[Q]: Thinking back, are there any standout moments for you in Sea of Thieves since you started playing?

[A]: To me the most standout moment was when I had been among those campaigning on the Sea of Thieves Forums for the Alabaster Wildcat to be added to the game as an Insider reward, which later, on April 16th, 2021, finally happened. The kitty was added and everybody could obtain it. I named my cat Crystal, and she frequently gets to join me on my adventures on the seas.

[Q]: What are your favourite recent additions to Sea of Thieves?

[A]: My favourite additions would have to be the dive mechanic, enabling you to swiftly start the activity that you are interested in doing, and the new mischief-making additions from Season 14 – disguises being particularly funny.

[Q]: What are your greatest achievements in a game, Sea of Thieves or otherwise?

[A]: I have already mentioned some of my greatest achievements in Sea of Thieves including being the world-first Visionary Artist of the Seas, being an owner of the Sea of Champions Sails and contributing to making the ability to obtain the Alabaster Wildcat a reality.

Other notable accomplishments are that I am part of Just a Guild, which was the first Guild to reach Distinction 10 and simultaneously place #1 in the first Guild Ledger. All credit goes to my Guildmates though, since I was on vacation overseas for the majority of that grind. I was also the first pirate in the world to obtain the Silver Blade Trinket, since I completed 211 weeks of Insider testing without missing a single week – that is a lot of dedication, and it was especially difficult to maintain during some of my travels.

The last thing I want to add is that I am a completionist. I love trying to complete as much as possible in the games that bring me joy. I have completed all achievements for Sea of Thieves and almost all Commendations, only missing Commendations from the Hourglass Factions and the Shrouded Ghost.

Aside from Sea of Thieves, I think completing the Pokédex in Pokémon HeartGold when I was younger to be my biggest achievement.

[Q]: If you had to choose a pirate and ship name, what would they be?

[A]: I have 15 ships all pledged to my Guild Eel Eyes, my main Sloop is called Eel Eye, my main Brigantine is called the Golden Crusader and my main Galleon is called Champion. The name of my pirate, just like my gamertag, is also EliEelEye. You can see the rest of my ships here.

[Q]: What kid of other hobbies do you enjoy outside of gaming?

[A]: I love travelling, spending time with my wonderful girlfriend and incredible friends, preferably a mix of all three. Discovering new things with the people you love is so much fun.

Eli likes to indulge the travelling itch when he’s not spending time on the seas with friends.

[Q]: Share a fun fact about yourself. Anything is fair game!

[A]: My current gamertag is the result of The Arena. My real name, Elias, was too long to say during quick communication, and my crew would naturally shorten it by calling me ‘Eli’. This since became the more punny ‘Eel Eye’, which coincidentally also happens to be a fun extension of my pirate’s appearance with his blind eye. I later added ‘Eli’ to the ‘Eel Eye’, and it became even more playful!

Also, I once played some Arena matches with Joe Neate.
