Why is the storm so detailed and large. It's pointless...

  • I'm just sitting at sanctuary outpost and I look in the distance and half of my screen is this damn storm. When going somewhere or chasing somebody I have to go around it. It just serves as an obstacle which is okay I guess people would prefer not to have obstacles on their journey but come on it takes up half my screen and serves no purpose. I'd like to see something done with it. A specific storm-related sea or sky monster, loot droppings, a whirlpool. Like that huge section of the map is so detailed and it could be so much cooler but it just acts like a wall you got to go around unless you wanna fill up with rain water or get shot with lighting or go in the complete opposite direction because your wheel turns. I always envision the Pirates of the Caribbean whirlpool scene whenever I see that massive cloud or like a crack of lighting and boom there's a cool monster reflecting in the sky like the ghost ship/skull in the sky. Its just wasted potential and it would be really cool to see something done with it. It could be another consistent player event that fills in for when a skeleton fort isn't around and the Kraken appears somewhere. like a PvP area that spawns consistent loot for adventure mode for people who don't play arena maybe.

In relation to the Kraken and skele forts/fleets, this thing is already bigger than both of those things and is so much less dangerous and is devoid of any reason to go inside it unless you wanna fish or do achievements.
link text > just look at the size difference compared to the player event from dagger tooth. like why man. it should be like the devil shroud, dangerous but worth more considering you get ashen loot. for the storm it could be shipwrecked or "storm" chests maybe.

  • Turns out, there is special treasure for storms! There's an achievement (perfect dark) for sailing through one at night with lights doused, there's a commendation or two involving lightning related deaths, and there's some very, very, very rare fish in there and only in there. On top if this, it's great for losing or ambushing ships, and overall very cinematic too. Have a few ships loaded with supplies? Helmballs can make all of your days a lot easier (if they weren't being nerfed into the Sea of Sorrow at least).

  • @ultmateragnarok Well aside from achievements and fishing, I see how its good to get away from other ships but you could also have a fight in there for actual high quality loot with ships instead of just using it as an escape route. and it is cinematic and cool-looking, that's why I think it should have a lot more gameplay revolving around it.

  • @itsmatthewl

I think the Arena could benefit from the storm hovering over the entire map rather than drifting across it, which puts ships at a disadvantage sometimes too. As for ships, perhaps a skeleton ship type and a megalodon that only wander in the storm (sort of like how the shrouded ghost supposedly wanders the fog banks, though it doesn't). Perhaps the shadowmaw could, with a drop increase, as the red and black would compliment the darkness very well (I've actually fought the shadowmaw in a storm, and it looks amazing).

  • In the end its just flavour.

The way storm works now makes awesome moments in the storm really Far and Few inbetween. And I am ready for 2 storm clouds to roam the seas. Storms are some of the only things in the game that has not been touched and I still love them.

Maybe even have the entire map in a storm for a rare Night time period, but is nerfed in a few ways. (Still allows for Compass, and less rouge waves and less helm resistance).

  • My only suggestion to the storm is to buff the lightning to before the Festival of the Damned.

  • Just log out and the storm is gone.
Seriously why is everyone trying to nerf or get something special from everything in this game?

  • I've used the storm on many occasion to both evade and ambush other ships.

  • @nwo-azcrack its a suggestion/feedback thread

  • @itsmatthewl
    Ya and i left feedback.
Of all the things in this game that could be fixed or updated you wanna make the storm smaller? For absoulutely no reason except you think its to big and you get nothing out of it? Really?

  • @nwo-azcrack yes? one of the biggest things on the map only serves as a blockade. I've never once found usefulness in it. I think it should be on the "all the things in this game that could be fixed or updated" list. and I didn't say make it smaller I just don't like the ratio as to how big a skeleton fort is to the pointless storm, and the ratio of the importance between the two. I only want something more done with it.

  • We are all different, an in the far future with private servers, you should be able to set the weather/settings as you like.

as Im saying we are all different, Is because I love sailing though the storm.

  • @itsmatthewl
Its not supposed to be useful. You are suppposed to MAKE it useful. Why does it have to be rewarding?
This is probably the most pointless suggestion i have ever seen besides naming your ship

  • I use the storm as a means of escape - it's a pretty effective tool.

  • @nwo-azcrack i get you're supposed to make it useful but theres a difference between usefulness and pointlessness. sure its good for some people who can use it to ambush or escape, but i think it could be more influential on the game besides just what the player makes of it.

  • @itsmatthewl
Its a storm. It does its job. It brings rain and makes you move around.
Other players find it useful. Just because u feel like its pointless, doesnt mean it is.
Hey while we are at it lets reduce the fog too. Its more pointless than the storm right?

  • @nwo-azcrack im suggesting it could be more than a storm that "brings rain and makes you move around."
it wouldn't have to lose that cater to the people who enjoy using the storm for fishing, achievements, evasion/ambushing, etc.
its a pirate fantasy game, it doesn't have to just "do its job" as a regular storm.

  • @nwo-azcrack You are being way too aggressive against someone who is asking a simple question.

Fog feels a lot like an unavoidable weather effect if you need to sail into one. The storm, does feel avoidable, which in turn makes it feel "pointless" as he says.

Like my first comment, I think it would be better if there were 2 storms roaming around. That way, you are more than likely to be caught within a storm and have to muster it, and more likely to use it. With this, the storm(s) now have more of a point to it, which is to make things more difficult/epic.

I honestly havent used, or been caught in a storm in a bad time in a while (Honestly havent had an interesting storm since long ago), I would like it to be more frequent.

  • @crafek and tbh i think naming your ship is a great idea...
but mainly a moving storm would be cool, or ones that just spawn out of nowhere above you like a kraken
    thatd be crazy...

  • @itsmatthewl It would be crazy!

    ...because it wouldn't make sense.

...and the storm does move - it's even synced across servers.

  • @galactic-geek when its a fictional game it doesn't need logic
there are already skeleton zombies across a sea that's covered in a mystical shroud with krakens, megalodons, and roaming pirate captain ships... sense doesn't matter. crazy does matter bc its fun.

  • @itsmatthewl Well, if that's what you want, then I have a conspiracy theory for you - there's a clue in the opening cinematic that refers to a hidden path through the storm that supposedly leads to a great treasure. I've tried many a time and have yet to find it. Will you be the 1st? 🤔

  • @galactic-geek im so down, i can go further than the shores of gold

  • @galactic-geek

Actually, it's not synced across all servers. I got sunk by one (you saw my post about lightning power), and when I got server merged because my new ship had the anchor dropped, it had moved across the map. It was traveling pretty much direct south from the northwestern corner of the Shores of Plenty, and it was in the southern Wilds after the merge. I think it's synced to continents or something similar, but not across all of them.

  • @crafek
Ya i guess ur right, maybe i was a bit to aggressive. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.
I guess when i seen the OP say the storm was pointless i got annoyed.
    @ItsMatthewL
My bad if i was bein a jerk.

  • @nwo-azcrack np

These are the same type of reasons people are using to support the volcano nerfs. They say they are just annoying and simply slow down the sessions but are not significant threats. Before anyone starts, I do not agree with nerfing the storm or the volcanoes. Just pointing out people asking for things to be made easier and less frustrating.

  • @ghostpaw I don't think storms should be any easier either

  • @itsmatthewl said in Why is the storm so detailed and large. It's pointless...:

@ghostpaw I don't think storms should be any easier either

Who said you did? Your name did not come up in my post. People have been saying the volcano nerf was justified because it was just a hindrance to goals and did not require much skill to deal with. I see them in the same category as storms and fog. I will stop because I don’t want to potentially derail your thread.

  • @ghostpaw ye okay just clarifying

  • Oh, someone actually said it. While we're at it, the same thing applies to earthquakes, volcanoes, and skeletons.
