Skeleton Giant land event - Tomb of the Great One (Alternatives to Skull Forts)

  • Ahoy! Currently my crew likes to grind Skull Forts each night because it a reliable, steady source of gold with potential for great stories. We’d love another land based event that we can add into the mix.

    The Event

An island would be marked with a cloud, similar to a Skull Fort, signifying that a burial of a skeleton giant has been seen in the area. Once your crew arrives, you must search the island for an indication of where the tomb lies. This could be disturbed sand, or perhaps a couple fingers poking out of the sand.

When discovered the crew would take out their shovels and clear away the dirt, paleontology style. Once the remains are excavated you have to awaken the giant skeleton to commence the fight. You could do this by reigniting the fire in their deceased heart with a lantern, however you would need a colored flame which you collect from other islands. You defeat the monster, grab the key, retrieve the loot from their burial site and off you go.

    Gameplay Variety

I feel an event like this would be a great alternative to mix in with Skull Forts. It includes different elements, such as searching the island, and also bringing something (colored flame) from somewhere else. There could also be occasions where two skeleton giants are buried together to really up the challenge. The color of the flame could also add additional modifiers such as a green poison giant skeleton that emits AoE damage or a purple necromancer skeleton that summons more minions.

    Gameplay Mechanics

There would be a requirement for some armor for the skeleton that has to be dismantled in stages. The first counter-play to this event I thought of was stacking 6 gunpowder barrels on the tomb, awakening the boss and then exploding him for a quick kill. To prevent this, you would have staged (hidden) health bars represented by visual armor. After a certain amount of damage he loses a layer of armor, but the “overkill” damage doesn’t affect the next health bar to prevent cheese kills. This would also give you a nice indicator to how far into the fight you are.

Also Rare would probably need to give him a cannon or other ranged attack to stop him just being helplessly kited to the shore and destroyed by ships. How about a harpoon or magic spell that can drag the ship toward land, grounding it, if he has no other targets to attack.

That's all I got for now. Let me know what you think.

TLDR: Giant 12ft skeleton marked on random islands with an event cloud. Burial site must be located and then initiated with a colored flame found elsewhere on the map. Destroy it and claim the loot it was buried to protect.

@RARE It's been awesome to see the game catch a second wind - you guys did an excellent job last year building up. I feel like this is only the beginning for SoT if you continue to add content and fun features. Keep it up and thank you for the fun times.

  • not bad man! I like it. I'm always up for more events like the skull forts, this is a different spin on it.

  • Awesome idea! Love it!

    Maybe giants like these

  • @spoonfrag Great idea for an event Lad. This be a great addition to the Comunnity Idea's Master List if you wish. I appreciate the tought about counter play and the basic mechnics but could use more detial. This event needs to be expanded on more like where does the key go?

  • @spoonfrag

This is a pretty good idea, but maybe it shouldn't have a cloud, but instead smoke or something similar. An army of them on an island would warrant a cloud, or perhaps they could reenforce strongholds (a skeleton lights the flame). The colors could be
Green: Summons skeletons around it periodically
    Purple: Attacks inflict poison
Blue: Turns to plant skeleton and is drawn to water / summons plant skeletons around it
Red: Turns to stone, incredibly armored and weakened by water (basically a gold skeleton version), inflicts AOE damage over time
White: Random lightning strikes on nearby players and occasionally skeletons (less likely)
Pink: Extra damage and resistance (only against players)
    Normal: Turns to shadow skeleton

It could also hold a cannon (lots of cursed cannonballs) or throw ropes to pull in ships. On a side note this fits the lore quite well, as some of the figureheads are supposedly made of giant skeletons.

  • Every since the skeleton thrones event, I have been wanting giant skeletons! So, yes! All the yes.
