@triheadedmonkey from what I know.. The Pride flag has 6 colors. From what I heard this rainbow flag has 7 colors like a traditional rainbow. So I could see it being interpreted either as a pride flag or instead simply a rainbow. However everyone still associates rainbows with the pride movement so I still feel it was a very poor choice.

@delta-sparky901 this is how I look at it. The lgbt community has used a rainbow flag for 40 years, as a lgbt pride representation, not equality.
If rare wanted to have an equality flag they could have used the planet earth on a starry background. To me that say equality more than what lgbt has used for almost twice my life as their pride symbol. There are many blind (arguably non-LGBT at that) people arguing in favor of the rainbow banner who seem woefully ignorant of the prejudice and hatred that also surrounds the colors and what how people who are supposed to be aligned to the same cause treat each other. Nobody wants to talk about that though because it's bad PR.
For some, the rainbow flag is a reminder that their symbol of hope for inclusion, unity, and acceptance was a false flag.
Ludicrous.
Ignorant of the community, and not an argument. Try again.
No, not really. Your comment was simply ludicrous. But I’m thoroughly enjoying watching your head explode over this. You must be really upset. How delightful.
You really, truly enjoy fiction. I also enjoy that you ignore comments you can't belittle or apply an argument from incredulity.
I'd tell you to look up where and how the term "oppression Olympics" originated but I'm pretty sure researching anything contradictory to your feelings would be anathema.
Yeah, the rainbow can't have a negative connotation just like the swastika can't have a positive one. She's been attacking people all day.
That’s hilarious. I’ve been attacking people? That is incorrect. And excuse me, but I never claimed the swastika has no positive connotations. To the contrary, I even posted that it is still to this day an auspicious symbol in certain cultures. You are deliberately misrepresenting my statements to suit your personal agenda.
The entire point about the asinine swastika vs. rainbow nonsense is that the rainbow has never been a symbol of oppression and hate. The swastika indisputably has. I am well aware of the history of the swastika and could probably teach you a few things about that. But it’s utterly nonsensical to claim the swastika has never been used as a symbol of oppression. It most certainly has, and that is the prevailing understanding of it in most of the Western world. Flying that flag is the polar opposite of the rainbow flag.

It doesn't bother me - I think anyone who thinks they can apply any sort of rational argument to adding the flag is insipid, at best.
Here's a rational argument... they wanted to add it because they are in support of "The Pride Movement" and they have the liberty to offer their support and that is just how it is. Anyone who might vilify the support and toddle off, I'm sure Rare wouldn't even care.
It'd be different if they were trying to create some political response or were trying to specifically advocate for something to generate action... they're not they are simply sharing their appreciation of a segment of their community during a relevant time.
The flag's inclusion is literally them saying "We appreciate you and value you in our community, thanks for playing", that's not a bad thing...
It may not be something any given player would agree with, the 'politics' (or whatever) may not align with a given players personal beliefs.
But they aren't "politicizing' the game, they're simply sharing a message of appreciation and support. No one is asking anyone else to change their perspectives, think a certain way, believe in any specific thing.. they're simply offering support to a group of their community as a kind gesture offering it to those who might appreciate it.
I wouldn't be amazed if they do the same during other categorical "months" in the future, they may not, and that is fine.. They obviously do feel it's important enough to them to remark on this "month". If they do it again for other communities down the road.. that's their business.
I’ve briefly stated my position on this elsewhere, but I’ll delve more into it here.
Adding the language to the Pirate Code is great. But, this is still an open world where many people of many views come to play. None of the other flags have a meta social/political meaning like this. I just feel it invites the very thing they would be trying to prevent with the code. I doubt anyone cared about - or was even aware of - the sexual orientation or gender identity of the people with whom they were playing. Was this on people’s radar? Was there not equality on the Sea of Thieves before?
Is the game, Sea of Thieves, a pirate game or is it a platform for the social statements of the day. Will Rare be adding flags for other oppressed minority groups? Where is the Rohingyan flag?
As a strong supporter of and advocate for LGBTQ rights, I feel that this isn’t the place for this. Let’s play the game, and get to know one another. We don’t need a flag that will, unnecessarily, build a wall where there wasn’t one before.
I hope to meet many people with many views in my travels on the Sea of Thieves. Perhaps, I befriend them. Perhaps, they will learn more about me and my beliefs, and we may disagree about those things. But, at least, we will have one thing in common: our enjoyment of this game - and that common ground will always prove to be a better starting point for real dialogue and a bigger step in the right direction than any flag.

@drbullhammer People ABSOLUTELY do choose their sexuality. What a an absolute incorrect statement by you. That’s like saying: people can’t choose what to eat that day or what to drink. They are forced to drink milk only! Nothing else!!

@knightfire098 I just think rare is treading on thin ice with this choice. It's a very touchy thing here in the US, and a majority of the player base of this game play in the US. There are people here who don't agree with lgbt and think this is a call out especially since it is pride month. Like I had suggested they could have used the planet earth in a starry background. That wouldn't have caused this sort of outroar.
If people don't "agree" with LGBT, that is their own problem, and quite honestly the game community would be better if they all stopped playing because of a simple flag.
@cardshark-360 we are being respectful and getting attacked. Rare started this political conversation with lgbtqwtf flags in forums. Im just saying i want the stars and bars and hope to not be ridiculed for it.
@pacific-special As per the Forum Rules we all must remain respectful towards all other community members when posting on the forums. I have deleted your post as it was not in accordance with these rules, failure to remain respectful of all community members will result in a temporary ban from the forums.
Please read and abide by the forum rules going forward.
Thanks!
@dutchdeadschot so you had other ideas, urges and desires but settled upon one consciously?
I suppose it leaves it open to changing later...keep your options open

@drbullhammer Your post is c**p Bully! The flag is political. It's like adding a swastika, KKK, or Black Panthers flag. It represents a select few who stand for a cause not unlike any of my aforementioned flags. I love RARE but keep politics out of the game.
Comparing a symbol of a group that wants equality to a symbol of groups that openly advocate for the murder of people who are "different" is laughable.
@rockinpodunk laughable? Have you seen the mortality rate of the gay community world wide? There's nothing laughable about that now is there?

That is a tremendously ignorant remark. Did you “choose” to be straight? Most LGBT people don’t choose their gender or sexuality. It’s a matter of who they intrinsically are.

This must be some obscure definition of the word “respectful” of which I was previously unaware.
My male pirate often wears a dress, I hope I did not offend anyone who spied me on the deck of my sloop?
Maybe those offended could start posts about restricting what pirates wear?
I really dislike the killing of sharks in the real world, should RARE be promoting such practices? I'm not sure... or stealing, murder etc...oh

I completely agree. Ironically by saying that people choose their sexuality they are indicating that everyone is bisexual until they choose otherwise. I'd also like to know what the apparent process is for choosing your sexuality. Do you use a pro and con chart or is it what ever you fancy at that particular moment. The only choice you have is whether to accept your sexuality or deny it.
