new content designed as proof grapple gun should be its own item slot or a tool rather than a weapon

  • playing this new garrison feels pretty awful. first the constant skeleton spawn just for the simple act of slowing down your progress as this isnt a waved event like other garrisons or forts. just adds a level of tedium. i know in testing there was some confusion with people about navigating the place, finding that captains etc. while this is kind of a gaming in general kinda thing.. you learn that info over time. so eventually you wont be wasting so much time looking around. but the boring pointless skeleton spawn spam combined with not being able to use a gun because the place is to big, if you die you need to grapple back onto it. grappling to get around it is too convient to give up the grapple gun. the introduction of the grapple has locked my load out pretty much in place. rarely changing it to my prefered cutlass and pistol.

also having the vault need so many ashen keys but most of these cupboards are empty i found 1 in each fort. why not have the key masters inside also have a chance to drop ashen keys instead of me getting like 20 garrison and 3 vault keys by the time i was done? or allow vault keys to double as ashen keys just not have the sell value?

anyway... yea thats my last suggestion for everyone here to down vote and rare to ignore. only done 1 garrison so far and didnt enjoy it. thats not saying its bad content. but is is just more of the same with a twist. and re-listening to the recent podcast it was kinda crazy hearing how they think their mindset has been on developing updates making it seem like they werent just copy pasting content when in fact that is literally all they are doing. so much so that they arent even making new pve cosmetics next season. we have all these cosmetics from the early years that only .5% of the player base has. why not add those back in.. but everyones rich. ok make them doubloon items. delete everyones doubloons so they have to grind for it. thats pve content for s19 sorted. now we can all focus on the hourglass changes which will bump hourglass player % from 3 to hopefully at least 50%, it will only be like 15% watch... waiting on another "oops we goofed again" and "we keep missing the mark" dev post

Grapple should stay as a weapon.

Sword/grapple is my default boarding load out. It is blanced like this for a reason, if it was a tool then boarding would be too easy. Having a higher boarding success rate at the cost of a second weapon is a good thing. Definitely should not change just to "fit" the Ashen Garrisons that have plenty of armory locations on the outerwall to switch weapons and fixed harpoon guns to aid movement.

  • @miserenz I'd support it being a tool if it had no ship grappling capabilities. I wish that was the way it was from launch. In its current form, it just makes solo slooping so much more challenging when going up against larger crews.

  • Grappling Gun being able to attach to ships is the worst decision made - enabling no skill boarding or at the very least 5 attempts to distract/disturb the hapless solo slooper and necessary change of the blunderbuss.
Having Grappin Gun as a full time tool able to attach to environment and your own ship only would be so fun.

Had no issues with the Garrisons - ship grapple to get over wall and plenty of ladders to ascend.

  • . grappling to get around it is too convient to give up the grapple gun

Making it so, it doesnt need to be a third or perm weapon item. Choosing it over secondary weapon makes it...'challenging' forcing the player out of there little comfort zone of always DG.

Just wait, If and when they do this and everyone is grappling on to your ship and suddenly DGing you, players will complain how OP it is.

To echo what many have said here, yeah no. If you want to board my ship, you better have good cannon aim to get a deck shot, or hope we don't see your merm. Failure to board using those 2 ways, doesn't give you a free bite of the apple with a 3rd weapon slot of the grapple gun. If you need to grapple to board me, you're not using both of your preferred weapons. Choose wisely.

playing this new garrison feels pretty awful. first the constant skeleton spawn just for the simple act of slowing down your progress as this isn't a waved event like other garrisons or forts. just adds a level of tedium.

I would imagine the reason they opted for random periodic spawning rather than set waves is because they had to rush it due to incredible mismanagement. I really don't see any way what we have on live could be what they actually wanted or are proud of. Skeleton spawning was listed as WiP for the entire run of testing and skeletons still spawn inside walls or have trouble pathing to players.

but the boring pointless skeleton spawn spam combined with not being able to use a gun because the place is to big,

Unsure how its too big to use a gun, its no bigger or smaller than most of the Regular Forts. You absolutely can use guns here but due to the fact every other skeleton drops an ammo pouch its usually just better to run a throwing knife which has the highest fire rate.

if you die you need to grapple back onto it. grappling to get around it is too convient to give up the grapple gun.

You can also just use the harpoons on your ship and walk across those to get back on, you absolutely do not need a grapple gun to get onto the Garrisons.

grappling to get around it is too convient to give up the grapple gun. the introduction of the grapple has locked my load out pretty much in place. rarely changing it to my prefered cutlass and pistol.

While the grapple gun does suck and its implementation is terrible; I do not think it is in any way a necessity on these Garrisons or anywhere else in the game. The single use I do have for them on the Garrison is that due to the loot being spread and the walls being high, I have not found an optimal harpoon spot, so I just put them high up on the main building and stand on the wall near my ship and grapple gun the loot to me. I definitely did not feel like I needed to grapple around to traverse the area, running around and an occasional sword lunge was more than enough.

also having the vault need so many ashen keys but most of these cupboards are empty I found 1 in each fort. why not have the key masters inside also have a chance to drop ashen keys instead of me getting like 20 garrison and 3 vault keys by the time i was done? or allow vault keys to double as ashen keys just not have the sell value?

Also found this weird; I did a dive garrison and I got 0 ashen keys meaning I couldn't open the extra compartments. But I did notice despite diving as Gold Hoarder I could hear Skull sound effects inside the compartments; meaning they didn't actually bother to alter the loot in there to match the company you dived for. I had multiple too many Garrison Key Masters spawn meaning I ended with a surplus of keys and unlike most forms of keys in this game they can't be sold.

so much so that they arent even making new pve cosmetics next season.

Its not like that was the intent though, they just fumbled yet again and I guess are just gonna shelve cosmetics designed around the scrapped content.

we have all these cosmetics from the early years that only .5% of the player base has. why not add those back in.

Re-adding old items is the laziest thing Rare can do. They can choose to make a new thing, recolour an existing thing, or re-use an old thing. Re-adding the old thing is the least effort choice they can make here. The issue of them not releasing enough cosmetics isn't solved by re-releasing old stuff, they just need to start releasing the hundreds of unreleased stuff they have and sit on for no reason.
