Better PvE Servers

  • These days I log into SoT maybe twice a year. I started playing a few months before they introduced Safer Seas and was super excited for it since actually playing on High Seas is near impossible. Between the outrageous cheaters, the sweats who have 1000+ hours and the constant harassment of other bored players you're lucky to be able to complete a merchant voyage (no emissary), without being chased. It's pretty obvious that players do not respect the 'code of conduct' and intentionally go after new or low reward crews just because they have nothing better to do. Every game should have a mode to play that is accessible to all and there is genuinely 0 reason to not provide this.

Players said adding Safer Seas would kill the game... it was dying regardless.

    My Suggestions?

    • Separate Gold, Reputation, Stats & Ships from High Seas & Safer Seas (if people actually care about Safer Seas getting it "too easy")
    • Add private lobbies for Safer Seas so people can actually enjoy the game and prevent cheaters from ruining their server.
    • Uncap and reenable all of the content that has been removed from Safer Seas. Players shouldn't miss out on gameplay just because they don't cheat and/or spend thousands of hours sweating the game.
    • Allow players to invite other friendly crews to their Safer Seas session (this one will rile some people up, statistics don't matter the game is dying let people have some fun).

So many games have these PvE features regardless of what the game is about. For example, GTA5 has private servers. Just because a GAME is about committing crimes and being a pirate doesn't mean that people should be prevented from enjoying it any which way that they choose.
I've been saying this for years now but I seriously cannot wait until they make this game playable & enjoyable again.

  • @cupobunnies "there is genuinely 0 reason to not provide this" i love when people make statements based on no actual truth or evidence and simply their own bias but expect everyone to accept as fact.
Who would have guessed that this entire company with years of experience in designing and delivering games could get this fundamental premise so wrong.

  • Your idea means having two characters instead: PvE character and a PvEvP character.

Then I ask myself, What would be the incentive to play the full experience? I wont make a new character to only enjoy Hourglass if I can get everything on Safer Seas. There needs to be a limit to force players to get into the full experience.

You have put the example of GTA V, but it has a different set up. The progress in GTA V really makes a difference between a new player and a veteran, so is good to give a safe space for people that don't want griefing from people with better items. In Sea of Thieves all players have the same starting stuff and it's all about how you manage your sailing to get the upper hand.

I understand the struggle of getting in Sea of Thieves and being chased by people with better knowledge. This game is about Risk Vs Reward and many new players prefer to take the risky missions because some Youtube Tutorial said is the best way to get money. If you are going into risk you are going to encounter piracy. Think about this like going into labs in Scape From Tarkov at level one, or doing some high risk deliveries in GTA V at lvl one in an open lobby, or going against the Erdtree Knight as soon as you start Elden Ring. The game is clearly saying that you need to be more experienced to safely do those experiences but instead of going slowly and learning the ropes you want to rush into PL by doing High Risk stuff.

This is not the first and is not gonna be the last post on the forum asking to open Safer Seas to the full experience. Devs are doing the best to ensure Safer Seas is acceptable but making sure the best choice is always High Seas.

  • Most cheaters are on hourglass nowadays. Most people who you think are cheating are just good af the game and you don’t need to be cheating to play adventure(btw I think some youtubers have tutorials on how to play high seas and sell your loot while bejng chased and other stuff like this in case you dont like pvp). What you want is to have the full experience on a private session without risk, something i do not judge you for but is not the actual sea of thieves and according to the devs never will be. Safer seas is a good place to start but the actual game is high seas.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount over the years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
