Creator Spotlight – TheGeeNee

No time for nitpicking as we collar one of our quirkiest content creators for a catch-up…

Sometimes a creator comes along who defies the laws of anything that makes sense. The ability to capture an audience through chaotic and meme-worthy content, to ask the tough questions, nonsense questions and questions that confuse our Creative Director while still hitting the points that a community feels passionate about is a great talent.

So in this Spotlight we decided it was time to talk to the king of confusing creation himself and sat down with TheGeeNee, also known as AbsolutePixel. But that difference in name is just a nitpick

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A]: Luckily for you I actually remember this. It was a game for MS-DOS called Monster Bash, and after that I don't know, but I remember spending a lot of time playing Commander Keen 4.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A]: I think it was when they first asked me to join the Partner Programme, as I just was in my own little bubble playing the game with my friend. But when I got into the Partner Programme I started scrolling through others’ profiles and now I think Captain Falcore is a doonaggle.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A]: Kinda happened by accident when I started making movies with my friends when I was six years old, then as we got older my friends didn’t want to make movies but I did. Combine that with my love of videogames and I think that is how it all happened.

Things you DIDN'T know about Sea of Thieves

Duration 7:34

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A]: Entering the what-is-my-next-video-gonna-be-about-phase is the worst part of making videos, especially when I don’t do ‘gameplay’ videos as much any more. I have a list of potential videos, but those are the fallbacks. Right now (as I am writing down these answers) I am making a video on the current Mystery going on. (But I've learned this Spotlight will go out way after the Mystery is done.)

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A]: AND taking too long between uploads? Like in the previous answer, the biggest challenge is finding out WHAT the video is gonna be about. Editing and writing the script is for the most part painless, it’s just a long process for me.

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A]: Secretly I’ve got a second channel. AbsolutePixel is my main channel. The secret one is live-action stuff that I’ve made in the past, but that content is in Danish.

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A]: Undoubtedly, I think it would be from one of my old videos titled ‘Sea of Thieves: It’s a pirate game’ where I wanted to steal a pig from a poor pirate. Honestly, it’s best to just watch it. Go to my channel, look up the video ‘Sea of Thieves: It’s a pirate game’, skip to the 7min 14sec mark and enjoy.

A Partner, plunderer and pig thief, TheGeeNee is a menace to peaceful livestock merchants.

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A]: Best thing to do in the game now is to hunt for anyone doing Fort Events and then steal it away from them. And what am I looking forward to in the future?... When we can finally have an auto-sort feature for organizing barrel inventory. That one has not been announced but I am hopeful that one day it will come to the game. Or the day hit reg is fixed.

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A]: Such an easy question… that was when I beat Kaidawrath, a fellow German citizen and Sea of Thieves Partner, in a 1v1. I shouldn’t be too proud of that one because it was really easy. Super easy.

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A]: Crazy story incoming. Way back, we were three people who were gonna run the channel. Originally the name we wanted first was ‘BroTayto’ but that name was taken. I wanted something with Pixel because ‘X’s are cooooool. We landed on AbsolutePixel, and one or two years later, the other two went down their own paths and I took over the channel.

In true pirate fashion, TheGeeNee followed the ‘X’, and the AbsolutePixel name was born.

[Q]: What do you like to get up to when you’re not making videos?

[A]: Really hard question as I don’t like to stick to one game. But as I am writing this, I play Tears of the Kingdom waaaay too much.

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A]: I don’t think I would be the best to give such advice as I don’t do content creation the correct way, but I’ll give it a go. Do the opposite of what I am doing and upload on a weekly basis. But have a paying job before you get comfortable, because it ain’t easy.

Also have fun making your content, because if you grow your audience making the content you want to make instead of following the trend, you probably won’t grow tired of doing it.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A]: Besides what I told you not to do in the previous answer? One thing I’ve found very useful is to ask your closest friends to watch your videos before you upload and take their feedback to improve your product. Do not be offended by criticism. Instead, take that criticism and use it to your advantage.

TheGeeNee is always thinking about what might grab an audience’s attention.

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourself?

[A]: Every Sea of Thieves video I’ve made, I’ve hidden an image in that no-one (to my knowledge) has noticed. The only other person who knows it exists is my brother, and even he with his stony face chuckled at that image.
