History (Brief)
I joined and spent time getting to know the forums. What was being talked about and what had been talked about. I jumped in and tried to be helpful and waited to see if I would be invited to the Alpha.
I was invited to the Alpha and continued my ways on the forums.
What Soured
Eventually, the forums became 'forumish'. Gangs of Rare defenders roamed the dark recesses of the forums and became bolder, venturing into the light. Deckhands seemed to care more about defending Rare (and their personal views) than doing what's 'right'. It's a personal peeve of mine when people become drones to a non-corporeal entity.
What Became of Me
I lurked for a bit on the forums. Played the Alpha for a bit... occasionally. The more I saw of the game and forums the more I disliked what I saw.
I ventured back to the forums and was quickly disgusted. Nothing had changed. The spiral into cesspooldom seemed to continue. Not quite there yet but headed that way.
Many times I would see that the servers were open. I'd look at the icon and decide to play something else desiring a non Sea of Thieves experience.
Today I Poked Head Back in
I saw nothing but complaints and more of the gangs of Rare supporters. These gangs even attack people trying to be favourably critical/helpful.
The most ignorant comment I saw was someone who said something to the effect of, 'I agree with some and disagree with some of what you said.' That was all.
I have said before that I cannot be supportive of the brig. This effectively gives griefers power to ruin the experience for others. This view seems to be supported by others but not Rare. That is unfortunate.
Now, I'm thinking I had heard (it has been a long time) that SoT was being billed as an Action Adventure Open World game. Something like that at least, it really doesn't matter. It actually is an Arena game. All players the same, real object is to kill other players even though the only reward for that is a smug look on your face that no one can see.
My suggestion is that the game needs to be properly billed as an Arena game. Oh well, deaf ears and all.
What the Future Holds
Probably not Sea of Thieves. So far I haven't uninstalled it and likely it won't be a zero-day game for me. I'll likely wait for release then explore posted after-release videos to see if I can change my views of a game that, to me, is already thought of as Sea of Griefers. From SoT to SoG, an abbreviation you just can't help but laugh at.
It is unlikely I will return here to read the comments but there was a time when there were people that ment enough to me that I feel some sort of explanation was warranted. To those, drop me line on Xbox if you feel up to it.
Just my view.
