Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.

  • I think they make them "TIME LIMITED" cosmetics for a reason...

Those who make the effort to play the game in the time period available will be rewarded, simple as!

If you cant play during that period then tough luck, it happens to us all.

The time limited cosmetics keep the game fresh and gives people something to play for.. as the exclusivity of the items is a big factor for people wanting to earn them.

  • @sargent-sully said in Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.:

@shamanmclamie Ohh actually perhaps the small discount shops could boast some "rare" inventory (the torch on their isle will be lit to signal the unique item's presence). From there they could potentially offer one or two of the old event items at a time. It could swap every two in-game days or so. But yeah, as for the Hungering One figure head, Day One Patch, and Launch Crew rifle, i'd keep those exclusive. If anything I COULD see reskins of the latter two.

What part of "no" eludes you sir.

  • @donklol What part of I am free to have my opinion do you not understand? I've been playing since the start, I am a Legend, but even I feel there should be some way to obtain such items later on, even if it has to be in the microtransaction shop they mentioned. A buddy of mine has been reset almost seven times now and has been there since the beginning as well, taking part in each event only to lose it.

  • @sargent-sully The trick to that is to just not reset your account?

The thing that could be added for this is that they could make it so all of the exclusive "event" cosmetics are linked to your xbox account/email.

As for obtaining the items later on.. I do not want to put my hard work and effort into getting exclusive items just for some newcomer to go and buy it a year later. The point of the items is that you were there for the event and took part and that you have something unique to show off for it.

Imagine buying an Olympic gold medal because you could not take part in the race. Think of how the winner would feel lol.

  • @archaell The deadlines are what makes the items exclusive and meaningful.

  • @kraken-slap Under normal circumstances I would agree, but his case is somewhat different. Back when the game first started off, PvP/Raiding was his thing. If he saw a ship, he would be on it in seconds, cutting down the crew, taking their loot, and sending their ship to the depths. On multiple occasions he had been reported for cheating/hacking as a result of either the lag spikes he often suffers which causes his character to appear to "jump/bounce" around the immediate area, or how he is capable of reading most players and uses it to his advantage in fights.

Just the other week he had to make a new character (which we dubbed Maui given his build, scars, and the dread + facial hair combo); can't recall why we had to start over that time. One evening we were sailing with a buddy of ours. For the most part, our luck was going south. We attempted that mercenary voyage of the wilds, only to be attacked and sunk at Ship Wreck Bay, then by the same group by Dagger Tooth. Later we went to what I think was cannon cove (that one isle east of Snake Island, past the shop) where we fell victim of a Legends' sloop (they were pretty good fighters). At which point we just gave up and decided to go for the nearby fort. Drawing near we saw the cloud disappeared, but then noticed there was a sloop with stock items, so we decided to go steal the fort loot. We then got attacked by the kraken as we got near. We turned 180 and sailed out of the ink, went around the ink to notice a rowboat had escaped, which we thought had all the loot. We swung by their sloop to see everything was there aside from the stronghold keg, which we assumed had either been destroyed or was on that rowboat. We decided to drag the sloop over to our brig and offload the treasure and their supplies. At which point the megalodon showed up and attacked us, causing our ship to be lost (along with the loot we just finished getting aboard) and the supplies we took. With that, we decided we could just try to use their sloop to bring it to a fort. They began respawning as we tried to save the sloop, which began to sink. One of them jumped over with the stronghold chest, but a shark got them almost instantly. We all died, but I survived until after their crew and my buddies respawned. My crew respawned near a fort, which we took down, then rowed a rowboat with our loot to Ancient Spire to cash it in.

About a day later, my buddy hops on to see that his character got wiped. He checked his email and it turned out he received an email asking him to give his side on a report against him with the accusation of cheating, which he hadn't replied to in time.

  • @kraken-slap So yeah, what I said in my previous reply about my buddy aside, I can definitely understand where you are coming from. Honestly it would be nice for the event cosmetics to be linked to the accounts to avoid any unrest.

  • Everyone (excluding very young children) had a chance to get them.

There has to be some reward for players who were here early on. I can understand making many of the tasks easier over time (or legend), in order to recruit new blood. But you cannot remove everything from those players or they leave. I am one of the few players using the bone crusher jacket that I ever see.... and this is why I do. It’s also why I still hold my black dog bucket.

I have been helping my GF play. With a couple hours a night, PL is now achievable in under a month with a decent crew. I am not saying she can PvP well (she can’t)... she isn’t great at finding chests or fighting off gunpowder skelles. Her sailing is scarier then my grandmas driving. I am not saying she is incompetent.. I wasn’t good after a couple weeks either. But she will be a PL in title.

Don’t take everything away from us. I would love to see a bulge rat tavern with NPCs showing off a different set each or some sort of museum concept. Maybe sunken ships could use different sets too. Allows new players to see the past as the game progresses

  • @sargent-sully Well only about 5% of that reply was actually relevant to what I was saying haha . If your mate has been reset almost seven times, why has he not learnt from the first 5 or 6 times? Rare do not reset/ban people without legitimate reason so surely there must be something going on there. I guess the fact that he failed to respond in time is a bit unfair but ultimately his fault, I would have emailed them back or created a support ticket. I played with someone only a few days ago who had his day one eyepatch returned as he reset his account.

I think the main fix would be to just allow you to change your character! but then the problem is that you choose your pirate from the start for a reason and are meant to progress with them and "bond" with them in a sense.

  • @kraken-slap If memory serves me right, they mentioned in one of their last patch videos that they were looking into some system to add that in, but in a (as they put in) "Sea of Thieves way". I'm putting my money on that potions shop, course given all those little potion lights all over the place (and the ones on various "wild" islands) who knows what else they will do. Bit off-topic, but they do look delicious, like some tropical fruity drink.

Also like five of those times were on his end. Once because of some data bug when uninstalling the game, once when Rare was changing how the character data was stored (data got corrupted from what I recall), twice because of his niece resetting his character (first time accidental, second time on purpose), and once because a kid his girlfriend was babysitting reset his character after getting jealous that he had some of the Athena/Ghost clothes despite not being a legend yet.

  • @sargent-sully Your friend is either lieing or not very good at account security :D.

Which potions shop do you speak of? I cant remember seeing something similar to what you are describing :P

  • Again this queston is asked and again I'm going to be in the No camp.

Where were you when we all killed the first megladon? Were you there? No Do you deserve the figurehead for doing this? No not really no. Was it hard to get? Nope.

Sure it's a little weird to have bonecrusher cannons capstan and wheel but not the hull sails and firugrehead but that's what Rare chose.

To be honest I'd rather see Rare tone down the requirements for some of the cosmetics a bit. I'm all in for playing a lot but doing 5 Reaper runs is getting a bit tiresome just to unlock the cosmetics I can already buy but are locked untill I'm done with the legendary quest.

If they want to do this type of thing in the future I'd love for them to tie them to the normal achievement and have the Legendary one give dubloons in stead of having the cosmetics locked to them too.

  • @kraken-slap It's the latter (his niece really is a pain).

As for the second part, if you have seen the "Art of Sea of Thieves" artbook, there are several concepts that shows what appears to be the a more detailed upper floor of the Order of Souls building (minus the lower OoS tent), featuring various additional potions in addition to the glowing vials you can already around the OoS building.

  • They could put them in the MTX store for a small price. If people want them that bad they can pay a small fee and support the game further.

  • @hynieth I think the requirements are perfectly fine, however saying that I do get the time to earn them whereas some people do not. I think that if they made the requirements any easier then everyone would be able to get them.. which is a little too easy in my opinion. I like having the bone crusher ship set as it signifies that I did in fact earn them the hard way.

  • @sargent-sully What if that exists to let you enchant your own personal skeleton bodyguards ;)

  • @kraken-slap I think it is its own faction or shop entirely. It would however be pretty cool for there to be some kind of "Curse" Scar. For instance after using a certain amount of cursed cannonballs you would get a commendation for the faction referencing the warsmith and her transformation. The accompanying items could be "Curse Scars" of varying levels, following the same stages of skeletalfication that Wonda underwent. There could also be similar ones for the Athena to acquire glowing tattoos and eyes, or one for Gold-hoarders to get the golden curse scar (perhaps like that one commendation for having what I think was like 1 million). With all that being said, sorry for going off topic.

  • I'm all in for playing a lot but doing 5 Reaper runs is getting a bit tiresome just to unlock the cosmetics I can already buy but are locked untill I'm done with the legendary quest.

I mean, you're given a week at least to do 5 voyages, just like the meg, if you can't complete it in time then you don't get it, it's not forced, it's not necessary but if you want the cosmetics you gotta put in the work, this game has already been made easy enough as it is without nerfing PVP centred events because you can't PVP, those who can't PVP probably won't get it, and that's fine.

  • I say all past and future time limited items need to stay time limited.

Clothing and scars and tats that are earned from events should stay that way. I dont see many bone crusher outfits and wailing barnacle outfits as they were events many didnt take part in,

    So,
If I see a bone crusher outfit and ask them how long it took them to get atop of Marauders arch chair. They always know exactly what I am talking about.. (because they were there)

If Merrick gave you the drum, you earned it, same with scar from beating the Alpha Meg.

Things you get from events are like badges of honor you get for being there with others who went through same thing.

I understand wanting what others have -I have read the book by DR Saus on the Sneeches..

  • @sargent-sully It is okay lol your suggestions are quite interesting. I would pay a pretty penny to be half skeletal. Even more if I could sail my own skeleton model ship.

  • @barnacle-blake The bone crusher outfit is the only one I don't have.. I regret not playing during the thrones event. I completed the thrones after though and did not realise that they had cosmetics linked to them a week or so earlier.

  • @kraken-slap said in Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.:

I hope they offer the one hanging in shop.. Its a better version of bone crusher I think

  • Especially since people took pictures of the Chips Ahoy cookies and stole the codes; and the onyx and mercenary pistols have a legit sight so you can aim? Maybe they need to start righting the wrongs of the poor marketing (since not many people even knew there were dlc updates to this game)?

    Yeah... I think so too..

  • @kraken-slap Not when there are exclusive cosmetics to certain regions and the chips ahoy cookie codes were simply wide open so people could steal them?

    Screw that.

Thats bullcrap and you know it.

  • @omnipotence13 Ive been with SoT since launch I just refuse to support exclusive cosmetics when the game's progression is strictly cosmetic. If you're the type of person that needs to feel special for playing the game when others didn't to have a reason to keep playing you should not be playing videogames at all. When ever someone curious notices SoT and asks me if its its any fun i chuckle and tell the from the day it launched you would already be buying less of a game then people that preordered. Rare has taken it to the point where items that are forever obtainable feel completely worthless and any satisfaction that i might have got with each new unlock is just gone. If you honestly think this is how games rewards should work in a premium game then you are what i consider the biggest threat to the game industry. You're exactly the type of customer that EA wishes they could clone. SoT is the first game i bought that isn't 100% pvp focused to offer exclusives to this extent. I didn't play Destiny, I dont play Fortnight, Overwatch, etc. Myself and many others come frome games that offer exactly the same content as they did at launch with no barriers just because im playing in the future. Thisbwhole game is a learning experience for Rare and I really hope they realize that this is one of the many reasons their game wasn't successful.

  • @hashashin777 The promotional offers are completely irrelevant to what we were discussing.. they are not items we can earn in game. I live in England so yes I was annoyed that I could not get some of the items since I like to collect them and I have the rest of the Black Dog set, but unfortunately there is nothing else that I could have done, I don't play with anyone from the USA.

  • @hashashin777 I have made sure to follow Sea Of Thieves on every social media platform available just so I do not miss out on anything else.

  • There are a lot of games that use time limited items as a way to drive players. Destiny 2 is a great example of that. The big difference is though, items in other games often affect game play. Unlocking and earning weapons, or gear that give you an edge in the game. With SoT, all items are cosmetic and don't affect anything. Their value is only what we as players give to those items. Some see those items as status symbols. Others see them as nothing more than a marketing tool and not worth the time.

Some players such as @Donklol put a lot a time and effort into this game, taking pride in what they have accomplished and put great value on what they have worked to earn. And so it is understandable why they wouldn't want others to essential take a short cut to get what they have.

On the other hand, not everyone has the same opportunities to earn these items when they are available. New players won't have a clue about some of these items and when they do find out would want to take the time to earn them. Some people may have a limited amount of time to play games. Whatever the reason may be, we shouldn't simply cast them aside with a "everyone has the chance to earn them during the event period" catch all argument.

I would like to see some of the events be "re-released"; such as an anniversary event suggested earlier in this post. But make the re-released items slightly different than the originals. I worked my backside off trying to get the weapon set for Devil's Roar. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to unlock them before the event ended (but I did manage to unlock the clothing). I'd like another chance to earn that set again, albeit with a different color scheme or something so that it doesn't take away from the originals.

There is a solution, somewhere, but it just takes a bit of compromise from both sides to find it.

  • @kraken-slap And what about those that dont like social media and do their best to stay away from it. And the exclusive regional cosmetics are unfair as well. According to their own Pirate Code, the crew comes first.. And we, the gamers, are indeed all part of this crew. So cutting different gamers out of “regional cosmetics” is hypocritical to their own code.

But, I digress, every other game has a start up screen with “ANNOUNCEMENTS” and upcomming stuff. They only have “Hey, there are new mercenary voyages.”

So when you release a game with literally no content, who wants to stick around and follow that. I advocated to my friends about this game being awesome and the release let me down and didnt back up my claims. And it sure as hell was not as “sandbox” as it is now.

Now people are missing out cause there wasnt much keeping the interest, other than the PC pioneers who had a jump on everybody else and could simply clear any threat in under 60 seconds.

Plus, when the matchmaking constantly puts you in crews sitting at an outpost, 1 or 2 man galleons, kids doing nothing, it really drives motivation down. This 2x XP weekend really helped drive the interest back up and NOW people have learned about the past events. Put the event announcements in a game start up menu like everybody else. I wanna know what my game has coming and my game developers should tell me directly. Not a third party and theres no excuse for that when the rest of the industry does direct contact through game.

Its time to right some wrongs. If the events come back year after year, then we need to be told that before we lose more people.

  • The most amount of players should be okay with reintroducing the opportunity to earn LE cosmetics if the commendations requirements were turned up to 11. Maybe 100% to 1000% harder should do it. If you really want something, spending a couple of weeks to a month on it should be fair. People who were available at the time of the initial event could enjoy the event's ambient "festivities" in regard to NPC dialogue, decorations, and the never ending availability of players focusing on the commendations. Getting crews all on the same page for off-season event commendations is already extremely tough.

Losing new players due to finding out that they lost a chance to earn something before ever finding the game is way worse than full time players not feeling special enough. This game is only about cosmetics. Halve (or more) the rewards a new player can earn and they have zero reason to stay.

This is coming from someone who completed every event. Also, Rare, please give us the con items that are out of the 3 month exclusivity deal. We've been waiting. $50+ for scalped items or hundreds for attending a con is not that great for players (nor you).

  • @BlackElite-ID16

I am not a perfect EA customer because I won’t spend endless amounts on virtual “things”. I will spend a little here because it’s a game I preordered for 39.99 CAD and have played constantly for over a year. I feel I have gotten my money’s worth 10 fold and feel it’s fair to send a little more here and there towards the game.

The limited Edition cosmetics are almost worse here then the EA cash model for they cost me something much more valuable, time. I enjoy (almost) every moment in this game, so it’s not time wasted. But that being said, I spent time here during inconvenient evenings to make sure I grabbed these cosmetics, so no letting people sit on thrones over months of gameplay to get a bone crusher jacket after telling the player base that they were limited is not acceptable

  • @hashashin777 If you do not like social media then unlucky.. why not just check the SEA OF THIEVES website every so often or check duke's store, with every new update it is obvious enough to anyone who plays the game regularly.

Sea of thieves has never been a literal sandbox, it is an open world game where you can make your own adventures. People miss out because they dont pay enough attention to updates and then moan when the time has run out.

If you are worried about bad matchmaking, use the "looking for group" feature on Xbox. If you are on PC there are many many ways to find decent crews. If you want to know what the game has coming then join the insider programme.. it is there for a reason and the developers do tell you directly. If you do not have the time to play the insider builds then like I said earlier.. check the website, if you like the game that much to care about the updates then checking the website should not be a great pain to you.

Youre totally missing the point, man. THERE SHOULD BE NO THIRD PARTY WAY TO FIND THESE OUT! If I log into the game after a while of not playing, I should see something of an announcement when I OPEN the game. The devs should tell us ON THE MAIN MENU OF THE GAME! No middle man. No facebook. No website.

If I want to see whats new with Elder Scrolls Online, I log into Elder Scrolls Online and read the pop up when you open the game that says “PATCH NOTES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS”. I don’t go to Facebook. I don’t go to the website. I log into the game.

And theres no “unlucky” when people are intentionally cut out because of an area they live, and get better weapons cosmetically than the base game? Thats rubbish. And especially when the give away is under the flap so people just snap a pic of the code and move on. Had I known thats what give away meant.... But thats rubbish. Thats stealing. I paid for the code and someone stole it. Thats not unlucky. [Mod edited]

And I do use the looking for group. Clearly you dont use it cause youd see my name looking for a group, wouldnt you? And if you did use it you would know there are very little responses in general, much less people delivering what you are asking for (not 12 years old, know what Port and Starboard mean, do you know what those mean without google?).

As for the sandbox remark. Sandbox means open world. Minecraft is a sandbox open world game is it not? Right. Making your own adventures, right? Sandbox. Sea of Thieves was marketed and is still referred to as a sandbox, which means open world.

  • Do you remember all the talk that sea of thieves lacks content and people who encourage others not to buy the game yet. Why would those who were waiting to play the game be given the same exklusive items as us who have been true to the game from the beginning. It makes no sense!

  • @hashashin777 I think you need to calm down a little bit. This is a debate not an argument. I am missing no point, I have read what you have said and I am telling you why you things are the way they are. Unfortunately this is Sea of Thieves not Elder Scrolls, but I can see why you want the "popup" feature implemented. What I was simply saying is that Sea of Thieves give so much information on new content.. it really is hard to miss.

In no shape or form and I acting like I am better than everyone else because of good luck.. I literally said that I do not have the cosmetics that we are talking about.. I am one of the unlucky ones. Sea of Thieves introduced the promotion and chips ahoy cosmetics to expand the player base and let people know that the game exists, and it also worked the other way with people purchasing the chips.. no one was forced to purchase anything.

I use the looking for group all of the time, I rarely play without it. Maybe I do not see your name because we are active at different times. There are a huge amount of responses to my posts.. I clearly define what I want my crew to include... if you make decent posts and actually use the feature properly then you get a good range of responses, I get at least 6 every time I post. I do not understand what you mean about the "Port and Starboard". I can't tell if you are trying to mock me or just state pointless information. A sandbox is a virtual world which you can make changes to on your will, name something that you can change in the world apart from cosmetics, in minecraft you can build whatever you want. Next time you see me build my own castle on SoT then let me know.
