Its a bit silly to force people to play at certain times to get cool cosmetics. The game is lacking content anyways so why make most content and missions limited time it makes no sense! this isnt WORLD of warcraft so stop trying to be like it.

  • Or atleast make it for 1 week per month all the events are active

  • I wouldn't say all the items. I would probably keep some items like the Hungering One Figure Head, Day One Patch, and Maybe the Launch Crew exclusive. I would say any set that has in game items you can currently purchase with the store should be put in the regular store like the Forsaken, Bone Crusher, Wailing Barnacle, Mercenary Set(Soon to Be).

Another option could be to have another event offering them again. The anniversary of the Bilge Rats Adventure it was originally released would be a good time. Like offering the Bone Crusher Jacket, Dress and Hat with the anniversary of the Skeleton Thrones Event. Putting the Bird & Bear Figurehead back in the shop every July wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I'm not hell bent on keeping things exclusive. I don't really care if all the items including things like the Founder Pack were released for everyone later, but I also understand that some items are there to show you partook in a certain event like the Alpha for the Founder Sails, or you were playing the game the First Month for the Day 1 Patch, or were one of the First to fight the Hungering One for the Hungering One Figurehead.

  • I would like it if at the very least they would be put on display in some fashion (outside of being on or with the pirates, I mean - like inside a shop, on a menu, or perhaps even a museum) to show those who don't have them what they're missing out on. For example, sunken ships could sport certain cosmetic sets, including those that are no longer obtainable.

  • The time limited cosmetics give reason for people to play for that period and show that they participated during the time that event was live.

There will be variants of the limited time cosmetics coming sometime after the anniversary of the game as purchasable for gold in order to keep the primary versions stay unique to those that earned them.

Most events are up for 2-4 weeks so unless you have a specific holiday or work project that prevents you from dedicating a few hours for that period to play then I see no reason that people need to complain about the lack of time available to earn them.

  • @th3xr34p3r The problem with that logic is that I already have a reason to play when new content/customization becomes available. Giving a deadline to unlock that content is just a form of pier pressure that turns me off and actually makes me not want to play the game knowing that the game is now a job if I want to experience everything. Selling it as "being apart of the game's history" is just selling seniorityand basically telling your player base that old players are better then new players. I'd be fine with all this if they provided an option in the settings to completely disable exclusive content. (if someone shows up in my session wearing one of theses cosmetics, for me it would appear as one of the vanilla cosmetics). This would be the only compromise that could bring me back if they don't want to screw over the people that have already unlocked stuff under the impression that it was limited time only.

  • No as soon as you do this they loose any value. Not all of us have the time to get all the items. We just do what we can and appreciate the ones we get even more. But opening the up is not a good idea at all. They would loose all value.

  • I've been playing since the start. The game has changed a lot since then for the benefit of new players. What took me and my crew 2-3 weeks to farm in gold and xp now only takes one day or two with all new loot that has come to the game. I have friends on my friendlist who started playing in the end of 2018 but who now have the same rank as me (athena 10). It really annoys me that it's so much easier for new players to become a pirate legend and beyond. At least we have some exclusive items to show off and say "hey i was there and earned it long before you were born". I really hope that exclusive items remain exclusive for the hardcore fans only. Don't screw us over Rare!

  • @zeltrax3000 I think they should give everyone a chance to get them, but make it difficult. Set an unlock requirement (like sinking 50 ships or something).

  • @th3xr34p3r I much prefer games that can be considered timeless or classic. With many games nowadays, and the way they use time-limited items, it's all about the now, and that's disappointing to me, because that means the game is planning for the short term (1 - 3 years at best in my experience). It also means players far into the future won't be able to enjoy what we are currently experiencing because it simply won't be there. Granted, the online-only atmosphere doesn't help with that much either. Still there are games like World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Super Mario Bros., etc. that have tested the sands of time and that still stand strong entire decades later. I want SoT to do that too and to become something I can experience in VR (or on a holodeck) someday when I'm old, feeble, and bedridden with it being bigger and better than ever. I don't want certain aspects of it lost to time - I want the whole thing! To say otherwise would mean that I wouldn't have the true heart of a pirate.

Everyone had the chance to get them

  • I disagree. Limited time items come with a unique story and meaning to those who were around to earn them.

They should add color variations but never bring back the originals.

What are you talking about peer pressure? Theres a large amount of people who want exclusives WE ASK FOR THEM, if you dont want them fine, dont get them? Nobody is forcing you to get them, if you feel pressured into getting them that's on you, not us or Rare but you. If you dont care about them why would you be against them, just dont grind for them its that simple

  • No. - If it was time limited evented it was.

Could you please confirm for me that purely calling a group of people who act in a spoilt and entitled manner who spoil the game for others, spoilt and entitled is a reason for a permanent ban? Not trolling by the way i am sincere i mean i didnt really call anyone any names

  • @donklol Calling others names with the intention to get a rise out of them is trolling, and is against the pirate code. We ask that all members of our community treat others with respect.

Again not trolling but it is a bit presumptuous to accuse me of baiting and trolling, my post and comment were in context of what the post is about and my opinion, im sorry you feel this way but i was hardly trying to get a rise out of anybody, what purpose would winding people up pose? I mean surely this whole thread could be considered baiting by the vague guidelines that are set i mean clearly the rule is "Does this persom agree?" "No" "This is baiting" "Flagged Reported Banned". You are losing control of this forum and you're lashing out on people that have a passion and desire to see SoT succeed instead of flop like everyone who wants everything for nothing. Where do you draw the line. Im expecting to get banned for having an opposing view purely because some person who UNINSTALLED Sea of Thieves feels offended because i consider the "he has it why cant i have it" attitude a spoilt one...

    "Derogatory Language
Name calling, personal attacks and using derogatory language against Community Members, Rare Employees, Global Moderators or Deckhands is not acceptable"

I called no one any names, spoiled and entitled are not names, i didnt personally attack anyone and nor did i use and derogatory language, if that was the aim i would of added "brat" to the end of spoiled which would then of justified a warning and or removal of my posts, clearly that is not the case here, i get you're probably trying to be diplomatic but that can often times be detrimental if not executed correctly like this hasnt been.

PS please dont think this is a personal attack, it isnt, im just standing up for what i believe in and that is a fair community not one burdened by "you dont agree" REPORTED members who dont even play your game when some of us have banked 5k hours, and yes that definitely makes our opinioms and views on the game more valuable, we actually play your game, we know what it needs and doesnt need, and we are the ones that will despite all the errors and mishaps of Rare, will continue to play your game, unlike people like the sir above who removed the game because he couldnt get a skin others had.

  • @lady-aijou fair enough, i apologize for any emotions that might have been obvious in my original post. I read somoeone elses emotional post and got a little triggered. I'll try to keep it calm and empatheticin the future.

  • @donklol it's a cosmetic dude... Who cares? Not everyone has been playing consistently since launch. Not everyone is able to spend all their free time playing sot to unlock them when they come out. The new reaper skin for example: would it be so bad if everyone was able to unlock it AFTER the event by doing twice the work that's currently required? At least I'm not asking for them to be handed to everyone. I think it's a fair compromise.

If you really feel special because you have a skin that I don't, then you take this game too seriously. The driving force of this game is the cosmetics, give people more to work for by rereleasing them with more difficult requirements. It's a win-win.

Who cares? Clearly those who can't get what they want for a start, and those who want exclusives in the game...It always leaves me perplexed when people say "who cares" well clearly we do and if you don't why are you commenting on things you have no interest in.

Yes it would, it would take away all value from having it in the first place! Why is it so hard to understand that it's not RARE exploiting people here, people want exclusive cosmetics, people are constantly competing in life, kids, pets, cars, jobs, money, this does not exclude games! People LOVE working for things others don't have or can't have, that is why people buy Lamborghinis.....exclusives breed competitiveness, competitiveness breeds player base (otherwise why are the most popular and played games in the world, the most competitive which also feature exclusives). Why has SoT popped off again? It isn't because Mr level 5 who gets wiped out constantly started streaming....no it's CS Pro competitive PC streamers. There is nothing wrong at all with creating an environment where people compete to be better or have better.

  • If you want a removal of exclusivity you'd best be prepared to remove commendations, titles, and other cosmetics, idk like the Athena, not everyone has 1.5 million gold ....I mean not EVERYONE can get all the commendations so that's not fair right? Not everyone can get all the titles so remove them because that's not fair, not everyone can play with 3 other people on a Galleon so remove Galleons because that's not fair, remove cosmetics because some people don't have the cash and levels and that's not fair.

Let's just get Rare to just up and delete the game because let's face it, with all this "people shouldn't be able to have or do things that I can't" applies to basically the whole freaking game! And every game!!!!!

What isn't fair is expecting somebody to not have something they put the time in for purely based on the fact you can't or don't have it....growing up would you tell your friends mum they can't give their kids pocket money because your mother never did!?

WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE PEOPLE. It's about time people stopped concerning themselves with what they don't have and focus on what they do, if you want it you'll work for it and it's that simple, wives husbands cars jobs if you want it you work for It!!! Why should this be different? Just because you play for fun doesn't mean others don't or cant play to compete, I don't play for fun, I play to win, and winning is what I enjoy, that is my fun. Work hard play harder

I played WOW for 14 years, I have a lot others can't get and that makes me feel awesome , and do you know what I say to myself when I see someone with things I never got and can't anymore???? NEW OR OLD STUFF FYI..... "That's awesome!!!" Instead of being jealous, why don't we just appreciate people that work hard for things eh

I understand I come across as passive aggressive but I'm not, I'm passionate in all that I do, games included

  • I am also against the idea of limiting the cosmetics by deadlines. Deadlines are anti-fun. People should be able to work on these at their own pace.

  • alt text

  • @donklol You will have to accept that different people like different things. Some like the options, others like to have items others don't have available. Neither of these is wrong so it's free game for everyone to suggest changes.

  • @blackelite-id16 said in Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.:

@th3xr34p3r The problem with that logic is that I already have a reason to play when new content/customization becomes available.

Then continue to play the game that way, because that is the entire point of the game as there is nothing that is not cosmetic based as way to make your ship and character stand out as a reward for those that put in the effort for them.

Giving a deadline to unlock that content is just a form of pier pressure that turns me off and actually makes me not want to play the game knowing that the game is now a job if I want to experience everything.

If you see it as this way then this type of game is not for you and you should be playing other games.

Selling it as "being apart of the game's history" is just selling seniority and basically telling your player base that old players are better then new players.

Because those players, like myself, are the ones that participated in the events that introduced the content you are able to play in a lore based manner, why should they not be rewarded for that?

I'd be fine with all this if they provided an option in the settings to completely disable exclusive content. (if someone shows up in my session wearing one of theses cosmetics, for me it would appear as one of the vanilla cosmetics). This would be the only compromise that could bring me back if they don't want to screw over the people that have already unlocked stuff under the impression that it was limited time only.

This is not going to happen I can guarantee you this. Again if this is the main reason that you don't want to play a game then as stated before this is not the game for you.

All of us that collected and continue to collect the limited event and time cosmetics do so for a reason, not only to show them off and use them but again to have more variation in the way we stand out compared to the rest of the player base.

@truthfullist56 said in Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.:

@zeltrax3000 I think they should give everyone a chance to get them, but make it difficult. Set an unlock requirement (like sinking 50 ships or something).

There already is a commendation to sink 500 skeleton ships as a PL in the Athena faction menu which earns you the legend of the seas title and the legendary cannon skin.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/99ble8/screenshot_database_of_ingame_sets_and_items/ - I'm still working on the voyage completions for the main 3 factions since they other than the wood, cannonball and shadowmaw, terror and ghost meg kills are all I have left to complete then I will be re-syncing the database again.

  • @th3xr34p3r That's a very nice list!!! There are quite a few I don't have, I would love to see the Killer Instinct Figurehead in game! Do you know if I can still get the festival sails, i figure i cant but thought I'd ask, i saw them for the first time last week and thought they were epic, gutted I missed a lot but just encourages me to not miss the next ones

Everything that was/is limited time is listed if you scroll down and when it was avaliable. I have further information in the footnotes.

  • @zeltrax3000

Its a bit silly to force people to play at certain times to get cool cosmetics.

It really isn't, event exclusive items have existed for quite a while. This is quite a common practice with other games besides World of Warcraft.

If you didn't partake in the event, you don't get entitlement to the rewards. People who were there from the beginning have something that recognizes their participation in the events. If you didn't participate, you get nothing. That is only on you, and you alone.

    1. they’re cosmetic and have no effect on gameplay - so if you don’t have them it doesn’t change your experience a bit.

    2. “time-limited” is how they were marketed. That phrase is meaningless if they reissue. The point made by many above is that it shows “I was there when.” If you weren’t “there when” you just don’t get them.

There are skins I don’t have - so what. I’ve got a pile of worthless doubloons now instead because I foolishly saved them for something better... whoops, guess I should have bought but oh well... There are skins I have that you don’t - so what. I can only run one at a time anyway.

  • @shamanmclamie Ohh actually perhaps the small discount shops could boast some "rare" inventory (the torch on their isle will be lit to signal the unique item's presence). From there they could potentially offer one or two of the old event items at a time. It could swap every two in-game days or so. But yeah, as for the Hungering One figure head, Day One Patch, and Launch Crew rifle, i'd keep those exclusive. If anything I COULD see reskins of the latter two.
