Polymorphs

  • I believe it would be a nice touch to customization to add polymorphs in the game. It could be set that if you reach a certain level, you unlock polymorphs to make your character even more unique. Like: mermaid/wailing barnacle(level 20), skeleton(level 15), statue(level 5), volcanic(level 25), gold hoarder(level 50 gold hoarder), and a kraken(level 40). And for pirate legends, if they reach Athena’s level 10, they unlock the ghost polymorph.

  • Could be a cute thing like Chameleon from Dark Souls wher players play tricks on one another disguising themselves as evironmental things, or did I understand your suggestion wrong?

  • If I am reading it right, I am reading the use of the term polymorphs to imply a variety of accents to the character model that could be unlocked. Combined perhaps even to allow for a base human formed pirate to, over time and through unlocks, start to appear.... less than or more than ... human based on various accents applied.

Such as to say.. I now might have scales... or barnacles... or volcanic mounds that aren't acne... or gold plates like the skeletons have on my skin... that aren't clothing based but rather player model based like tattoos.

Am I reading this way wrong?

If I am not, then cool... if I am.. then well... I like my idea anyhow :P

  • @blooddoll22 no, you’re reading it correctly

  • Not much fan of this idea.

I think this is a really intriguing idea, I've often wondered about the gold hoarder glints beneath his skin, and it reminds me very much of the cursed pirates of Davy Jones in PotC, would be amazing if you could switch them around to complement your outfit.

  • Personally I actually feel the very light lore we have for the SoT actually supports this philosophy quite remarkably. Think of it, we've seen most recently what happened to Wanda. The OoS ladies aren't exactly 'normal' themselves. We've got lore remarking the mermaids and the concerns of people being transformed into them. We've seen gold skeletons and it might be assumed they were plated like that in life as well, even if the plating was merely worn. The list of things of this nature we've seen actually grows. So it's there already for the NPC's of the world....

Why can it not be so for we?

I'd be much more enthused about having a clawed hand, after some content driven event, as a reward for it than yet another set of clothes I likely won't ever wear.

Clothing as customization aren't 'customization' to me. The vanity items, sure, but clothes may "make the person" but they're not enough to really segregate us. Thanks to that we've seen the inclusion of hair models and color changes. Tattoos, and scars, and that helps a little.

Why not more as the OP asks? I have to admit I was rather hoping, but knew not to expect, that in the Cursed Sails after seeing all that happened with Wanda that I too might end up with a skeletal arm or something!

And sure, ghostly eye patches are great for Athena's rewards... but imagine ghostly eyes!

Even the legends den is full of ghostly souls... why can I too not be a ghost! Maybe that'll come down the line but if this world is meant to be our world and the stories are meant to be our stories then shouldn't the possibilities that affect NPC's such as being ghosts, gaining skeletal limbs thanks to our connection to the cannonballs curses, or becoming more like a mer-person, be the things we do? Why must all the coolness be linked to NPCs?

Shouldn't the coolest stuff be linked to US?

Otherwise we're just unnamed characters no one recalls, in the stories of the NPC's!

Sure, we get titles no one reads unless we're on the ferry of the damned. Sure, we get clothes we likely won't consistently wear since we've already got our one or two outfits we like and hate the rest. Certainly we've got some equipment items that are only seen by others on occasion.

But I can promise I'd be much more intimidated by a truly ghostly pirate legend than I will ever be by a guy wearing glowing clothes.

  • @thebuildingking Amazing idea.
This would add so much to the look of the game.

Despite the random character generator, I still see many resemble my own in-game character. Your idea would put another layer of uniqueness to it.

Combine this idea with potions bought from the shop above the OoS vendors and we're bound to have more one-of characters.
