I give up

  • @iduskk I am aware of reassigning the controller. My point is the jumping around during a fight is just an unimaginative design.

Telling people that they need to buy a different controller isn’t good advice. It’s asinine to make that a requirement in order to be able to keep up with other players. If the standard controller is a disadvantage, it’s a bad design. With having the option of reassigning the button configuration, Rare has avoided that requirement.

The “adjust or stop making excuses” comment is not advice. If you want to be helpful with your comments you should be giving pointers on how to be more affective in combat instead of (git gud)

These forums are used by the developers in order to receive feedback. If the majority of the players are pointing out a issue, they will address it. This game wasn’t designed to be a single player game. If enough people ask for a single player something or other then perhaps they will add something later.

There will always be players that will make excuses for not being as good as others and there will always be players the take advantage of being better than other players. Unless there is a ranking system to put like skilled players on the same server this will be an ongoing debate for Sea of Thieves.

Personally, I watch guys on Twitch to pick up pointers on how they do things and hold my own fairly well. I recommend players who are new or struggling to do the same.

  • I give two shirts.

  • @snowfire I agree, jump fighting looks stupid and not piratey at all. I understand players who do that, that's the tools Rare gave us but I hope they will rework it.

  • @wyvernhavvk @iDuskk did give advice. Do not let yourself get caught unready. When you pull up to an island, raise your sails, raise the anchor, and point away from the island so if you see a ship approaching all you have to do is drop sails and go. Do not use the sword for initial damage. It is a follow up weapon. Someone can either learn from mistakes or blame the game. If you are beaten by another player, grab the last five minutes of video for review (if you are on Xbox) and examine what you did wrong and what they did right. You won’t learn good techniques if you only play against players at or below your level.

Sorry you had a bad experience matey, it sure can be grueling out there for us xboxers, though it's not entirely impossible - I've both won and lost many a fight, though I've never put it down to what system I'm playing on against theirs (don't get me wrong, it's widely acknowledged that one has an advantage over the other - I just don't let it bother me). All you can really do is scuttle, perhaps change to a new server, and carry on playing! I've been playing for many many months and still enjoy it.

Hate to say "get good", and I don't mean this in a harsh way, but practice really does make perfect. After so much time I know I can hold my own when I need to.

Sorry to see you go, but if you're not having fun, perhaps this simply isn't the title for you.

It is totally unacceptable when all you can do is quit when you come up against better players. Totally unacceptable to pit a superior system of control against an inferior one in any circumstances. I know for a fact that using a controller against a m/k puts you at a severe disadvantage. m/k have hotkeys which is superior to navigating the wheel menus on a controller m/k can instantly look in whatever direction they want while controllers have to turn until they are facing the right direction, which is huge. this results in the jumping around in your blind spot while you try in vain to even look at your opponent much less hit them. shooter accuracy being superior with mouse and keyboard is well documented. So I say again that this is totally unacceptable and has spoiled an otherwise fun game for me on countless occasions, and to think that nearly a year out this still a problem, well that too is unacceptable.

  • You’ll get the option to remove crossplay shortly but in the meantime maybe remap your xbox keys. I have jump set to RB. However.. haven’t managed a 360 spin or snap shooting yet.

Maybe post on the mega thread and @Deckhands lock this?

  • If people just could stop bump old threads like this, that'd be nice! - Lock this mods!!!

I'm guessing you've not kept up with current affairs in the Sea of Thieves matey. Optional crossplay is on the horizon.

@Deckhands This thread is hardly relevant any more. Lock please!

  • @emrys-of-ailiau

Ahoy there, we do have a mega thread for the discussion of crossplay and the recent news that Rare will offer an opt out for those using controllers and playing on console.

We tend to use mega threads for hot discussion topics as it helps to collect suggestion and opinion in one place, which is easy for devs and community members to find as well as allowing other topics not to be buried by separate threads.

We also have a forum rule against bringing back old topics, which is mainly due to the fact that the game does change and mechanics are tweaked on a regular basis and the information is likely to be out of date.

I'll close this one down now but please feel able to copy/paste or add to the discussion here -
