When you want to fight another ship, it often result in endless pursuit, because, of course, the other one don't want to risk its chests and will just avoid fight for minutes and hours. If ships could have front cannons (1 for sloop, 2 for galeon), it would greatly balance and give a chance to pirate hunters to sink a fleeing ship. What do you think?
Front cannons on ships?
@breizhpanda just don't chase people for hours....chances are they aren't interested in fighting and can happily sail around for hours with you in tow, and if it was me, then sail into the red sea or scuttle.
Yea, if I sail away from a ship it is just cause I'm not feeling PvP at that time. Loot on my ship is never a factor with it cause I could care less since I play for the fun and experience rather than the grind. My favorites are when I am chased when I have nothing knowing someone is wasting a whole lot of time for zilch since I won't be an engaging fight, usually maintain low supplies if I'm not in a PvP mood, and have no treasure. Unless of course they just want to practice their sailing, in which case I'm fine helping that for a bit.
This is also why I don't chase endlessly myself, if I can't outsail them and catch them and they clearly don't care to fight I'm off to do something else.
The thing about chaser guns (cannons mounted at the bow and/or stern of a ship), is that it would basically kill all pursuits instantly. It'd give ships something closer to a 360 degree attack angle, meaning a pursuing ship couldn't make a single safe approach, and both ships would waste absurd amounts of ammunition in futile engagements.
If 2 Galleons were in a pursuit, the pursued ship holds all the advantages since guns mounted at the stern can get angles on the entire upper deck, but the pursuer could only fire at the aft section of the ship its pursuing, which is harmless by comparison.
There's also the wider implication of standard naval combat. Currently, we have to either keep moving, or turning to maintain an angle of attack. With guns now at the bow and stern, a ship could focus entirely on just shooting when a ship moves to either side, in front or to the back of it.
To summarize; The current setup allows for chases on its own and keeps naval battles more engaging, adding guns to new parts of the ship could have dire ramifications on the game at large, not just limited to pursuit situations.
A smaller calibre swivel cannon (Patarero) would be nice which could be mounted near the wheel on either side of the ship. This would be useful for dealing with skeletons rather than trying to get your ship in the right position. If it was placed towards the back of the ship it could also be used on any ships following you, but wouldn't be much use on ships which you were chasing because of the placement of the sails.
