I was thinking of some new idea for Events in SoT and thought of one that I thought would be fun, challenging, and rewarding.
Similar to the Skull Fort, a large icon of some sort could appear in the sky signaling that a "Royal Fleet" has arrived. This fleet would consist of 1 very large, slow moving ship with treasures on board, surrounded by 4 guard ships.
The ships would sail in unison from one side / corner of the map to the other and it would be up to the players to sink them before they reached the end of the map. The main prize would be the center ship, which would require a number of direct hits (10x+) that of the galleon to sink and would also slowly repair itself if left undamaged for too long. The guard ships would immediately be hostile against any threats and begin firing once in range. The guard ships could either stay in formation with the main ship, or break off to attack, I couldn't decide which would be better.
The guard ships could also hold small amounts of loot as well, maybe a half dozen chests or so on each one. This would leave crews with a risk vs reward situation. If you sink 1-2 guard ships, do you stop to loot them, or continue after the main prize?
The guard ships could be galleon sized, or perhaps smaller like a brig. None of the ships should be boardable, forcing players to sink them in naval combat. Once a ship is sunk, it breaks apart revealing the loot within.
What are your thoughts? Any improvements or changes to this idea?
