Doubloon Reset Critism

  • Hello,

I just wanted to express some criticism regarding the whole doubloon reset issue. I understand the reasons for restarting the currency to prevent long-time players from accumulating them, even though the black market makes little sense for them, as these long-time players most likely already own items from past seasons anyway. My problem, or rather the problem of a friend with whom I play this game most of the time, is the issue with the Doubloon Hoarder Cutlass. I mean, it was a very good and correct decision to change the price from 50,000 doubloons to a lifetime income of 50,000, but there was no transparency regarding how many doubloons one already has and still needs. I mean, if people like the streamer and YouTuber PhuzzyBond or other websites can create an approximate calculation for their community within days, then surely a company like Rare should also be able to provide this. I understand that it's impossible to have an exact calculation ready in just a few hours and then show every player how much they've earned in the game. However, I don't understand why they didn't simply implement a preliminary calculation, similar to the current final calculation, and then give players a certain amount of time, for example, two weeks or so, to earn the remaining amount and ensure they have enough.

Since this didn't happen, we had to rely on external sources that gave us a rough estimate. While I managed to earn enough because I farmed a few thousand more than the website's approximate calculation, my friend wasn't so lucky. According to the website's preliminary calculation, he had just under 51,000 doubloons, but he didn't receive the sword. Of course, I understand that he shouldn't have relied on this external website, and Rare obviously has nothing to do with these websites and is therefore not at fault. Nevertheless, as described above, I simply want to criticize the entire process.

I actually really enjoy playing the game, especially the last year I had great fun, but this approach has disappointed me greatly.

    Sincerely,
a normally very happy Sea of Thieves player.

  • So. Game is fine but upset you didn’t get a silly sword. Got it

  • @burnbacon You didn't understand what I meant. It's not about the sword as itself, it's about the whole situation and how it got handled by Rare.

  • my friend wasn't so lucky. According to the website's preliminary calculation, he had just under 51,000 doubloons, but he didn't receive the sword.

Unhappy they didnt get the sword, when we had months ahead of time to gather the required doubloons.

I dont get the problem but maybe a player misunderstood or just didnt get enough. Who to say what the real deal is, but its always that darn sword that is the issue

Did Rare already anounce that the swords have been distributed to all eligible pirates ? I didn't see it yet.

However, I don't understand why they didn't simply implement a preliminary calculation, similar to the current final calculation, and then give players a certain amount of time, for example, two weeks or so, to earn the remaining amount and ensure they have enough.

Because that apparantly takes time. Adding the sword to eligible pirates is, I assume, rather easy. The calculation isn't.

If they would be off but you base your actions on the estimate and either didn't get enough in the end or ended up with more than needed, there'd be tickets, posts on twitter and the forums complaining.
