A new boat

  • For me it would be nice to add another type of ship captained by 5 or even 6 people (I mean a ship that can be bought with coins from the buy a ship section)

  • add another type of ship captained by 5 or even 6 people

And why might we add. What wrong with the 4 man galleon ship? What does having 1-2 extra crewmates mean?

  • Not gonna happen

    Too unbalanced

    Server support

Imagine sailing a sloop and dealing with 8 people on one ship. 8 cannons (presumably one row on the bottom deck “to prevent 1 ball”) and trying to even have a chance

  • If we get a new ship it should be something like Captians Falcores one man idea. A real smugglers ship.

  • "Falcores idea" 🤣

  • @look-behind-you

While I doubt he is the first to suggest a single person ship, his explanation/design was the best thought through example of it I have seen. His vid on you tube "The Best Solo Ship For Sea of Thieves" outlines it very well including how to deal with no map table, anchor, sail etc. I should have been clearer that was what I ment.

It would make a great smugglers boat. It would also pair well with an idea one of my crew came up with. Accomodations bases on sealing certain loot without killing or sinking the enemy ship after they touch it first.

  • They made a conscious choice to cap it at 4 and I agree with their decision. In groups of more than 4, people tend to split into smaller groups and have overlapping conversations.

What I would like to see is boats with more flexibility. a brigantine alternative that can be sailed by 2 people, or a galleon alternative that can be sailed by 3, as easily as a sloop can be sailed by one.

The sloop is my favourite boat for its flexibility. You can solo it quite easily, and someone else can join for as long as they can join, and then when one of you needs to go, you can just go back to soloing it until someone else wants to join. With brigs and galleons, you kind of all have to start together, and when someone leaves, or another person wants to join, you have to end the session and start again in a larger/ smaller ship, which is quite frustrating if you've just finished stocking the ship/ just started a voyage/ world event etc..

I think it would be a much better gaming experience if we were able to say to our friends "Jump in when you're ready. Leave when you need to", or "I can jump in for a few minutes and help with X", instead of "Ah sorry, we kind of just got the ship stocked", or "We're doing X so it's going to be Y minutes until you can join.". Similarly, it would be great when we're in a session to be able to say "I've got to drop now. Enjoy the rest of your voyage" instead of "I hate to end this for everyone but...".

Obviously with flexibility there would have to be some adjustments to the ships for game balance but I think the benefit to the social side of this game would be amazing.

An alternative to creating new ships which are larger but still have the flexibility of a sloop, would be to allow players to upgrade/ downgrade their ship as players leave and join. I'm guessing this would somehow need to be worked into the diving mechanic to avoid servers becoming too crowded, but I don't see why it couldn't be done.
