Combat changes - suggestion

  • With the recent changes regarding quick swap, I made list of some other changes that would imo make the combat more dynamic

    Cutlass

    • decrese stun time after missing the lunge by 33%

    Duble barel pistol

    • decrease time it takes to activate the second shot by 40%

    Pineaple, Kraken and Megalodon meat

    • increase eating time by 50% (to 150%)

    Banana

    • decrease eating time by 25% (to 75%)

    Sword had unlimited ammo, no reload, and can hit multiple people at once. The only real drawback is the cost of MISSING. If you hit, you get to keep slashing. I don’t think a cooldown nerf is justified.
    Why do you see a need for a cooldown nerf?

    The double barrel pistol does need a bit of a spacing so it’s not Essentially a quick 2 tap death.

    Pineapples already take forever to eat, I can’t tell you how many times I am eating and die. Why do these food need a longer eat time?

    Bananas I could care less as I view them as worthless. Mango and above for PvP and pomegranate for PvE.

    Before the QS update it felt balanced. Now when guns can shoot faster, I feel like we should get more reaction time.

    You are definitly right in this one. I forgot to properly test it. Now I see.

    I call it balancing. Why should, this Pineaple that heals 2×100 hp and takes only one food slot, take same time to eat as banana that heals 1×20 hp and takes one food slot too?

    I am bit of ananas hater in this one, am I?

    The issue is…… even before the reintroduction of qs is you could get shot, immediately eat a pineapple, and the second shot would hit before the food registers. There are videos of this on YouTube.

    My question is, why is it so hard to get pineapples for some people? You can buy them at the shipwright, merchants, and sea forts. I usually run with half regen, 1 meat and 4 pines. That’s ALL the time.

    It’s not a hard thing to get and it’s widely available to everyone. Hence I never understood the food argument.

    Just 2 days ago we, me and one other, took a blade and galleon with EPR/sword. If I had been double gunning it would’ve been difficult, the crew we were fighting? Dbl gun and lost. The sword is BROKEN.

  • @jon-sea-nah I'm not complaining about accessibility. I'm just suggesting rebalance. I can see how you don't like my suggestion and I understand. Yet I would like it, if it got implemented.

    Sword has it's lows and sword has it's hights. Yes it's the most skill less weapon, but you can have some skill with it.
    The miss stun is probubly the only aspect affected by the recent changes.
    Ofcorse it depends on your opinion on sword but I think it would not change much but enough.

    If you acknowledge that all food is readily available why do you wish for a change?

    I personally think the sword cooldown isn’t THAT bad. I would worry that if it was any shorter it’ll just be “crouching tiger Flying Pirates” with non stop sword lunging.

    What would lessening the cooldown do for fairness?

    Would you be ok with decreased reload times for all weapons?

    Because its mainly Hourglass players only who say so. They want them "Now" not go around buying or finding. They want them in there barrels at the start.

  • @burnbacon I mean don’t get me wrong I’d love that for HG as well….. but it takes less than 10 minutes n to stock the ship with pretty great supps.

  • @jon-sea-nah Even as a sword lord I agree the sword doesn't really need that kind of a buff. The lunge is a high risk attack for extra damage, and if it hits you have significant advantage, so if it misses you should have significant disadvantage.

    The only thing lowering the 2nd barrel time for the gun does is make it more forgiving to use it as a second shot for double gunning. For people who run pistol snipe or pistol blunder it would make a decent replacement for flintlock, with the downside of the reload being the longest in the game as well as if the opponent eats a pineapple, a reloaded double barrel isn't enough to kill them anymore, meaning you'd have to reload your other gun or try to 3 combo with a blunderbomb, hoping they don't eat. I think it would make the double barrel more competitive and actually kinda useful.

    Agreed about eat times for pines and monster meats, but bananas are actually kinda useful when you really get into the weeds of a fight, the difference of a single banana can make or break it. If you eat 1 banana instead of 2 you are more likely to be one shot to a pistol, a halfblunder, a blunderbomb, whereas 2 bananas can be enough to survive and break through your opponent. Obviously better food is better, but you get 16 bananas for free, and you get even more with captains supps and a fruit crate, and you always have more of them than coconuts. Genuinely, I can remember several times where having 30-40 bananas was the difference between winning and losing. They just give so little health for the time consumption.

  • As a chronic sword user, I don't think the cooldown on the lunge needs to be decreased. Maybe an argument could be made that it (the specifically the lunge) should do the tiniest bit more damage just to tip it over 50%, but I think the cool down is fair. It leaves you vulnerable just long enough that someone who's on the ball can take advantage, but if they miss their shot you can still recover.

    I don't agree with increasing the eating times of pineapples/ meat. The extra health is well balanced with how often you find them/ the extra effort you need to put in to cooking.

    I think the bananas idea is interesting though. I feel like currently bananas are somewhat redundant and never get used because there's always a better option. The ability to eat bananas slightly faster than other foods could change this.
