Xbox Gamertag System Implementation

  • It would be an amazing QoL change for all if the (not so) new Xbox gamertrag system was implemented. Instead of showing my name as DrNibbles1601 in game you could let people have the same name with a hidden #nubmber to help with identification. This has been a change people have wanted for at least two+ years now. As you can even see an old post on the forums from that time.

  • Yup, I agree! I don't know why it's so hard for them to make that change. It shouldn't even be a thing..

I think they haven’t made the change so that other people can actually identify others.

Say you have a player named TropicalBanana665 and another named TropicalBanana278. You want to add the first one as a friend but don’t know which number they are because it didn’t show in the game.

  • @xdragonman15558 And that's is why there would be a hidden # Number to help identify between the two. When going to add someone the person would give out their # Number and visa versa (like it currently is on xbox) not to mention there is already a way to view recent people you have played with.

  • The reason they don't do this is enforcement of TOS. They need to be able to clearly identify the exact account in any evidence provided.

  • @drnibbles1601 me thinking what this post os about...ohh...yeah, "newer" accounts got a number on the end...well, as been said...probably because of evidence, if cheating is a problem...there needs to be the full name, or others will be banned...for example

Sure you can look under recently played, but that doesn't count as evidence if you report someone.
You need an ingame clip and if the number can't be seen, someone innocent might be banned.

Plus, not everyone shows up in Recent Players.

  • @drnibbles1601 but if you’re misbehaving in game, how will Rare know which DrNibbles to punish? See the issue?

  • @tesiccl Presumably, because when you use the in game reporting system, you would specify the reference number.

It'd be a pain in the butt, but doable, but result in a lot of people reporting incorrectly, so I'm still not in support of it, even if there's a valid path forward.

Blizzard did it. All rare has to do is have it so the numbers are shown on the Home menu / friends list on the xbox. but in game just fade the numbers so it's not shown above players heads. I'm not a designer but I doubt it would be that hard for these guys to figure out.

I think if they're relying on video as part of the evidence for cheating reports, having the numbers on the name tag is going to be required and non-negotiable.

Otherwise, now you have 2 disconnected pieces of evidence (the in game report, and the recorded video) which would allow you to really easily fabricate evidence.
