I think that since Rare has opened the game up to PS5 players and because they have added anti-cheat, now would be a great time to reintroduce Arena.
HG is great and all, but most people either do not play it or have no idea what it is. I can't tell you how many times I get into open crews and ask who wants to hour glass, only to be asked what HourGlass even is.
I think HG should def stay in the game, but I pray for the day that Rare brings back a revised Arena. I know it had issues, but I think SoT really needs it brought back for a few reasons.
The time limits were awesome, the stress levels were much lower knowing the game would eventually end, and people didn't just run in circles forever. You got to learn how to deal with multiple ships and you could do more hand to hand combat, whereas HG is mostly naval unless you get a board off. Not having to find or buy supps was always nice, plus knowing everyone getting into an Arena match had the same amount of supps was a HUGE plus. The cosmetics were amazing!!! The Glorious Sea Dog Tavern was one of the best places in the game. The game also allows you to be sunk and immediately get back into the action for the remainder of the match, without having to force server hop, revote emi, buy and collect supps again, and then dive and queue.
It was also extremely refreshing to just load into Arena from the main menu and actually play with others in Arena. It is sooo difficult to find open crews that want to HG. The list continues, but Arena was just all around a better pvp mode. Hour Glass has it's own merits, and needs to stay, but Arena felt like more of a fun reason to jump into SoT when we weren't feeling Adv mode.
I get it that people had problems with the old Arena, but I still feel like it would be worth it to bring back another variant of Arena with the rising popularity of the game and it's new PS5 players. I know Rare said Arena isn't coming back, but I think they also said curses wouldn't be buyable or something to that effect, so their is always hope!!
