Frozen Horizon Part I

  • Ahoy mateys,
Today I would like to talk with you about Frozen Horizon.
As ye all know we have Frozen Horizon Ship Set, Weapons & Equipment, which are available via Pirate Emporium. As well as II Clothing Sets, which are or were available via Twich Drops & Season I/Clothing Shop. However, we do not have a region.
Aye, I know, ye have heard this tale many time n under different names. Like "Arctic Deser" or "Icy Wastes" or "New Frosen Region" etc. But for Me & maybe some of you, those Tales create a great opportunity to imagine if such Tales were true: "How would they look like?", "What new adventures it would bring?", "What opportunities would our beloved characters seize?", "What danger would await us & could we overcome 'em?".
This topic is my imagination, my idea how this region would look like.
Frozen Horizon is new and most dangerous place in Sea of Thieves. One can say that it is Frozen Wasteland of Sea of Thieves.
It's located right below, most mysterious and my favourite region in Sea of Thieves, Ancient Isles. This region has XVII islands in total.
When it's calm, ye can spectate a beautiful Icebergs, which roams freely on the sea in this region or standstill; Ice Formations, which blocks the paths, yet creates a bridges between nearby Islands n Icebergs; & Wirpools, a small bodies of rotating water, which can easily sink any rowboat, treasure or pirate, who wants to dive below the wave or had too many drinks lately.
There is also few inhabitants of this beautiful region, such as Foxes, Owls, Seagulls & Extinct in outter world, but completely safe in Sea of Thieves, Dodo Birds.
However, if ye remember, I have mentioned that it is "new and most dangerous place" and it has a lot of reasons why.
Main one is Blizzard. Blizzard is a storm which contains a large amounts of snow with heavy wind. It not only will slow yer ship down and blind yer pirate like in the fog. But, it will also, freeze yer ship, which means few functions will be disabled/impossible to complete or slowed/require more time to complete (lowering raising sails & anchor, turning wheel, using harpoons); break previous Ice Formations n create new ones; Icebergs, which roams the sea will now move with slightly increased speed and in more unpredictable direction; create new Whirlpools, and have a possibility/chance to turn already existing one into Maelstrom. Maelstrom is a large body of rotating water, which can easily sink an entire vessel.
As I have previously stated, it has XVII islands. II of which are Outpost, IV are Large Islands, VII are Small Islands & III Skeleton Forts. There will also be I uncharted island, but I'll tell ye about it later.
Let's start from Outposts. First Outpost is called Frostwind, while second one is called Laughing Whale.
Frostwind is a small outpost, which is located only V Squares below and II to the East from Thieves Heaven. This Outpost looks completely different from other Outposts. First distinct difference is that it looks more like a Port-Village with only few resemblances of Outpost. It's buildings are build on the ruins of Ancient Civilization, which is covered with a heavy lairs of hide & fur stitched together. The are decorated with fishing nets and equipment, bones, tusks, shells & strange relics, which no-one has an explanation to.
Locals call this Outpost "The Ray of Sunshine among the Darkness". Locals are very friendly & happy to see new faces visiting this Oupost. Ye can meet there:

    • Toffi, the Tavernkeeper of Snorring Mammoth tavern. (Tavern is Decorated with Giant Mammoth Tusks, which are completely real and not for sale).
    • Torrum, the shopkeeper at the Equipment Shop. (Has a hammer as a arm, DO NOT LOOK AT IT!).
    • Sigrunn, the shopkeeper at the Shipwright. (Like it here, wants to build her own vessel to sail the seas).
    • Carr, the shopkeeper at the Clothing Shop. (Don't trust the word he says!).
    • Wengo, the shopkeeper at the Weaponsmith's Shop. (Loves his job, don't speak much).
    • Eilif, the shopkeeper at the Pirate Emporium. (One who tried to buy the Tusks).
    • Senior Trade Maria, the Merchant Alliance Representative. (Incredibly honest and open for Merchant Alliance).
    • Hegg the Hoarder, the Gold Hoarder Representative. (Loves Gold more than everything else).
    • Madame Oddny, the Order of Souls Representative. (Always busy).
    • Sovereign Christopher, the Sovereign Representative. (Hate it here, want to go where warmer climate).
    • Frederick, the Hunter Call Representative. (One more member of Merricks family).
      And few familiar faces too:
    • Bell/Mysterious Stranger, the Athena Fortune representative.
    • Larinna, Bilge Rat representative.
    • Castaway, Pirate's Life Tall Tales.
    • Captain Kate Capsize, Monkey Island Tall Tales.
Laughing Whale, however, is an inactive Outpost. Which means, it's a ruin, a reminder of great calamity, which have happened. Located at the very South of the Region, it serves as a gateway to the Edge of the Sea of Thieves.
Now, let's talk about Large & Small Islands. IV Large Islands are:
    • Whitereach (Almost completely made of Icebergs).
    • Mammoths Pass (Has remainings of Great Mammoths).
    • Pale Plains (It believed ancients had a great Gardens, filled with many incredible plants & beautiful flowers before this place becomes the wasteland).
    • Farthest Holm (A Holm).
      VII small Islands are:
    • Frozen Isles (IV very small Isles joined together through Ice formation).
    • Dodo's Rest (Isle of Dodo Birds)
    • Frostbite Skerry (Has many small Icebergs around it)
    • Snowfall Isle (small frozen pound in the middle)
    • The Invisible Reef (Small island with icy reef below)
    • Meriberg Peninsula (an iceberg in the middle of it)
    • The Seagul Heaven (Isle of Seaguls)
Now let's talk about III Skeleton Forts. They are:
    • Frostmaw Fortress (has remains of Megalodons and island itself resembles maw of Megalodon).
    • Moonhold Fort (Small Fort, with no roof)
    • Stormwall Fort (An entire Fort protected by the numerous walls on it).
Locals also tell a Legend of Great Maelstrom & Great Calamity which hides in the snow awaiting it's prey. But about it and few other, I'll tell ya in my next topic.
For now, that's it. If you have any comments, concerns or changes you would like to talk about, then leave yer comments below. Otherwise, I wish you to have a nice day or night and I will see you on the seas.

    With Best Regards,

    Selgewick The Seaman
    Chronicler of Legend
Captain of the "Fearless Nightgale", "Prometheus", "Revenge of Atlantis", "Golden Privateer" & "Wrath of the Sirens"
Guild Owner of "Chroniclers" & "Fearless Privateers"

  • I'm not against the existence of an ice area, I don't think the game taking place in the Caribbean is a deterrent, after all we have magic everywhere in the Sea of Thieves.

But the issue is that this will affect the performance of the servers, and the first and last addition to the map was not so embraced by the community, perhaps an ice area will suffer the same fate.

But what I think Rare could do is create a tall tale set on a fairly large map in an ice biome. And if one day they decided to replicate this in the open world, there would already be a lot of things ready to be reused.

  • @lleorb I see. It's an interesting suggestion. I just want to say, that Frozen Horizon or an Ice Biome is a Large Update, it will take months or even years to complete it if developers will find it interesting and worth doing. Therefore, I believe server performance till that time will be improved or resolved. Of course, such update will cause new or previous issues of server performance, however, I believe it would be expected and also resolved in due time. Thank you for your comment. Could you please just specify for me what fib is, thank you.

  • I don't usually weigh in on these posts, but I like sailing in the Deep Sea. I don't want it to become populated with rocks and such.

  • @crowedhunter I see.

  • Caribbean = hot climate. Ergo, no ice zone.

Only place it could exist is the sea of the damned OR if they changed the entire SoT map.

Sea of Thieves = Magical area where we come back from the dead, skeletons walk, magical skulls exist, mermaids are real, and megalodons still swim.
Ergo, ice zone. Realism is no excuse.

  • @selgewick Error in the translator, I meant tall tales.

  • @eguzky Feel free to read over Jotoro’s (Senior Community Manager) and Mike Chapman’s (Creative Director) response. Take as long as you like. :)

You’re right and it’s everyone else that’s wrong, yes?

Grats on putting words in my mouth so you can feel smug.
At least it shows I can ignore anything you post.

Also the 'and climate' comment reads as a joke answer. All I said was that 'The climate/realism' in a game about magic is a bad excuse.
Not wanting to make the map larger due to balance is a good reason.

  • @eagerpilot65104 Thank you very much matey.

  • @tesiccl "Sea of Thieves is deep in the Caribbean. If snow ever were to happen, it would be due to a curse or something fantastical, not due to climate."

But it would be exactly that, the result of magic, and could be the stage for good stories for Lore. The real impediment is technical issues unfortunately.

But as I mentioned above, an ice area could be the perfect setting for a tall tale in the sea of the damned

  • @eguzky

All I said was that 'The climate/realism' in a game about magic is a bad excuse.

That matter was debated long before you got here and always comes to the same conclusion, I just save the good stuff 😘

I see. It is a great suggestion, I like it. I would be very happy to see 'em use it like in Pirate's of Carribean, when them sailed over the Edge of the World to get to Davy Jhones Locker or like in Sindbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, when Sinbad were rescuing Marina, while being chased by a giant Winter Owl.

Listen kid, we both know your mocking styled reply was supposed to make me look silly, until I brought the receipts. That matter was debated long before you got here and always comes to the same conclusion, I just save the good stuff 😘

Or, kid, I was giving examples as to why it was a garbage excuse and you assumed I was mocking you.

Genuinely thinks I was born yesterday…another for the block list.

  • I freaking want it; even if people will say "Bruh we don't need that", I don't care AAAAH

    Good. Saves me the trouble.
I was unaware pointing out flaws in logic = talking down to people.
Now I know you were never on a debate team in high school.

  • Could we get Let it Go as a shanty? 🎶🎶🎶

  • @pithyrumble That would be nice.
