Another Headshot Post

  • I know this has been discussed to death already, but my position on this has changed recently so I wanted to share my thoughts. I've been playing other games lately (and yes, it's okay if this game is different from those games) like Fallout 76 and most notably Halo. The reason I say "most notably" is because Halo (and Dead Space) are games I played more than anything else in middle-high school. Even though Halo has shields, I always played Team Swat when I didn't have a fireteam. Which gave me a very strong discipline for seeking headshots. Dead Space further reinforced this habit by making headshots the utility shot instead of the kill, further disciplining my trigger finger. But that's enough about my personal problems.

Another feature of Halo, and I think my favorite feature: is the Grunt Birthday Party Skull. For those unfamiliar, it's an easter egg that you can have active during your missions that cause grunts(a small enemy) to explode in confetti when you shoot them in the head. It even goes "Yaaaaay!" as it erupts. This is a cherry on top of sprinkles on an ice cream sundae. It feels good to hit those shots. Especially when you chain them. I can eat my fill.

But I'm finding that in my pirate life, there's no dessert. Do you know what I mean, Okkotsu?

  • Balance would be a major issue. At the moment, it's generally fine (speaking as a PC controller player) but introducing headshots would necessitate matchmaking to keep things fair.

Sea of Thieves is a casual silly pirate adventure game not a first person shooter. It has some competitive elements (HG, SoSS) but, generally, Rare seem to be leaning into the "fun-first" mentality.

That said, if it was just headshots (or other weak points) for PvE, I think that could be done without disrupting too much. Always thought it would have been logical if shooting/hitting the heart of the Ashen Lords caused more damage.

I understand where you are coming from but this would mean one shot headshot eye of reach and this game is not meant for one shots with things other than blunderbuss and cannons and kegs

    why

    also, headshots are "fun".

  • @crowedhunter first off hit reg and second sea of theater is not that type of game I love headshots but not for sea of thieves

  • @deniedmink64878 cheese has nothing to do with headshots

  • @elextrov So since hit reg is an issue maybe we should just get rid of guns completely.

  • @crowedhunter ha ha real funny now notice you can sink because you died once and a one shot kill cross ship with a gun is just a bad choice

  • @elextrov That wasn't a joke, it was a rhetorical device that you can learn about in a college intro to logic or philosophy class. It's called reductio ad absurdum. My point was that there's no point in invoking hit reg one way or another on this topic.

  • @deniedmink64878 but it is impossible to deny hitreg does affect somethings in a consistent manner

    I'm down.

Anyways... balance would go out the window. Spawn camping would come back in force. As mentioned previously maybe for pve elements there's a weak spot, but now you're convincing people that hats do/don't change the hitbox size when they start complaining about it.

They should add grunt bday party as a forced effect if it's added. And force swords. Slow down ADS for EoR and drastically increase its reload time. Especially if it's OHK.

    Bad idea still.

  • @elextrov Right, it would mean that headshots don't land. Contrary to your point about how OHK across ships is too much. I think you should pick a lane for a little bit. It's getting tedius with all this chasing.

  • @crowedhunter ok so your saying my reason should not have been used although hit reg is a factor that if takes away a one shot kill that you needed skill to get ragers come and you have yet to acknowledge my point that sea of thieves is slow paced I love headshots in video games just not sea of thieves

  • @deniedmink64878 we should not stop all change but some change is for the worse

Au contraire, hit registration is the most relevant thing to be discussing before there is ANY consideration of headshots or other critical hits. Until that is dealt with critical hits are not even worth discussing much less introducing into the game.

  • @deniedmink64878 insider is for that who knows rare could be experimenting with it but only insiders and rare know and they can't talk about it to non insiders or rare employees
