Catch Up System for Insider Rewards

  • I'm of the mindset that if you do not regularly join, test, and provide feedback then you shouldn't get rewards because quite frankly that's what isn't actually fair to someone that has put 3 years of time into the system.

Anyone can idle at an outpost for 1 hour per week.

The true insiders are the ones that test the new stuff, vote, and provide feedback and quite frankly we're the ones that deserve the rewards.

  • I like the idea of extra time investment to catch up. I didn't discover SoT until Feb when I left PlayStation for a series X and haven't played another game since. I do my hour but will always be three years behind :(

Under the current system, yes you will.

  • @shamanmclamie for me playing Insiders is rewarding in itself. You get to play test future content, be part of the game and its evolution. If that isn't your main reason for playing insiders, then I think your playing it for the wrong reasons.

@lem0n-curry they would lose out on one instance but then get more data on another. I dont see the issue here as they are still getting data both ways.

No, they won't. They will get the data / feedback on the feature the person is interested in but not in the features he isn't

The way I see it in this scenario is useful data on one feature is better than useless data on both.

I someone isn't interested, doesn't mean their feedback is useless.
For one thing, they can provide feedback or big reports on other things than the feature.

  • @lem0n-curry my point is they would be spending less time on each feature and would most likely not have time to test them fully

  • No one here will agree with you since most are far ahead in insiders without taking into account that at the start of insiders there actually was a catch up mechanic and new rewards were not added every week.

  • @nitroxien that's where the term gatekeeping comes from

    What ? That's nonsense.

  • Personally I want all of the insider rewards but I am only at the silverblade eyepatch. But the way I would go about it is not making it obvious to everyone that their is double insider weeks for up to a certain point. What I would do would be create a month where rare announces that you can get up to 2 weeks of rewards for every week at a certain month of the year say December which would mean as an example we would get week 62 63 (week 1) 64 65 (week 2 66 67 (week 3) 68 69 (week 4). This would mean it is a bit fairer and a lot less snowflakey. However, I do not 100% agree with this because then were getting 8 weeks finished in a month which could make the newest rewards fall further behind or it could be that if you have got the latest reward it doesn't count as double for that time period.
It could even be narrowed down to that you only get double in December for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday so if you miss those days you would just get 1 week worth of rewards.
    Disclaimer just speculation.

  • They probably should have just ended the cosmetic rewards after the Silver Blade set was finished and just have the hourly rewards default to varying gold and doubloon amounts to infinite. Players who idled for the weekly rewards would likely quit, the ones who wanted to do actual testing would still log in regardless of whether they get rewarded or not and new testers would have an end date in terms of number of weeks for when they would finish collecting the cosmetics.

I don't think there is going to be a catch up system implemented, because it's going to be exploited and I don't see Rare bothering to put that much effort into something that is not going to impact the majority of their players (e.g. everyone who only plays Retail).

  • Rare has made a system for everyone to get these rewards 1 week at a time this is very fair! Now people want Rare to build them a Special program so they can catch up that would be unfair to those people who have spent almost 3 years 1week at a time doing what was asked of them. If you want these rewards just spend 1 hour a week like everybody else and you can have them! yes it will take time the same time it takes everyone! Why do people think Rare needs to build them a special program that is not for everyone! just because your late to the party or missed a year or 2 doesn't mean you get special treatment. This would be like me saying ohhh someone has a billion gold in retail give me a way to catch up i need a shortcut build me some way so I don't have to work so hard to get it. That would not be fair! Nor is this idea of being entitled to a shortcut, life doesn't work like that.

How is it unfair to those who already earned it?

If I walk into a restaurant and order French fries, is it unfair to me if someone walks in and orders the same 5 minutes later?

Case in point - what someone else gets has no bearing on how you got yours.

  • @galactic-geek Apples and oranges those fries are the same price for both customers! 1 week at a time for everyone is fair!

  • We seem to drift away from the main point here, that is to provide insight while testing future updates.

If you get something from it as reward it's secondary.

What if they were time-limited fries available only for 1 week, where you got them during that week, but someone else managed to get them the week after?

It may seem unfair, but it really isn't - it doesn't change the fact that you got it, how you got it, nor how much you enjoyed it, or the time that you had it long before they did.

Any perceived unfairness is purely in your own head. Whether they also get it or not has absolutely no affect upon you other than what your own feelings create. If you ask me, that's a problem with you managing your emotions, rather than a problem with the system itself.

  • @galactic-geek lol that is still apples to oranges. 1 week at a time just like everybody else no special rules for sum.

  • Devil's advocate here...

What's to stop people from going endlessly AFK without doing any testing whatsoever just to catch up in just a couple days?

The whole "hour per week thing" is a garbage system as it is...this would just exaggerate it. The reality is that a LOT of people that have all the current rewards got them by just AFK-ing outside of the same 50-100 people that actually test and post feedback on the Insiders forum.

  • "Maybe have the player do an extra hour, or two for another weeks reward, or have specific goal for testing and if the player accomplishes it they can get another week of Insider Rewards."

The whole point of the reward system is to give the players something for testing future updates of the game. You don't keep gold or dubloons from insider when you go back to the actual game. They structured it this way because....why would you keep playing it once you collect the entire ship set? The weekly gold is super low. There is no chance they are changing it and they certainly shouldn't. Also it's not time tested they're looking for. It's consistency. If your friends didn't play that's on them. The whole program shouldn't be changed because your friends felt like doing something else. I did the same thing. I knocked out many weeks but then stopped for a year and now I'm starting again. I'm a mile away from finishing the ship set but I can't complain because I chose to do other things.

  • @iloveponies15 this thread is 2 months old…

    Please don’t start this again.

  • @iLovePonies15 Ahoy!
Insider rewards are earned from testing for at least one hour a week. The idea is to actually put in more time (If/when you can) to discover whether the current build is free from bugs, reporting any bugs found and adding your feedback in to the correct thread on the forum.
Logging in and doing anything other than what's requested in the newest build doesn't really help the developers.
I'm hoping in the future the rewards might be tied to each actual feature that needs testing, rather than just logging in and doing nothing for an hour.

And as this is a necro (being older that one month) I'll be dropping anchor :D
