I had an idea a bit like arena where the idea is to have a simple battle ground only world where forced PvP is the central focus but there is still a prevalent pve threat.
The idea would be a single whirlpool in a storm where all players start on their ships on open water with nothing more than a few sea spires and protruding rock formations.
The waters start to swirl as do the clouds, much like they appear with the storm already.
The wind could remain linear but change direction frequently to pose challenges.
Players compete in a last man standing deathmatch where treasure can be split out based on survivability.
To set a time limit in the game match, the whirlpool could broaden or the outer winds could collapse inward and bring in the shroud.
Barrels could still be found floating to help restock as you play but generally base stock levels could benefit from being higher in this game match style.
Naturally with a whirlpool, those who get too close would be pulled in and sank, but those closer take advantage of the quicker waters for movement.
It opens a lot of room for specific PvP challenge but with a continued pve threat as well, and winners could even come from crews who fired nothing.
Initially I imagine this might benefit most from having the matchmaking set by crew size but as we have seen many times before, having gallons and sloops on the same water doesn't garentee either side winning so a mixed set-up might also work well.
Obviously this idea has places where it could be fleshed out but generally, what are the thoughts?
