Commodities nerf and issue of raids and bug users in general

  • So, we've received a nerf of commodities' base values. I understand, that there were some people that could earn millions of gold in just a few hours. But lets change the perspective...

Imagine me, a simple man, I have only 2-3 hours per day to play the game. I couldn't earn much gold with these time limitations. But Season 2 introduced new trade routes mechanic which allowed me to earn some reasonable amount of gold during my play session. I thought: "finally I can catch-up my friends that have full set of dark adventures and I do not". But making a full circle through all the outposts, on a brig, acting hostile with literally every ship near an outpost, I could make 0.5kk per 1.5-2 hours.

Then this nerf comes in. I ask myself: "why?"
And after that I read some dramas where one could be able to unite 5-6 galleons in an alliance via a discord server and through the bug they were able to purchase multiple commodity crates at a time, allowing them to earn roughly 8kk per 2-3 hours, I think (I'm not certain, maybe even more).

Great. And here comes the question: why should I suffer and embrace the nerfed values just because somewhere in the world there is a bunch of nice persons, abusing alliance and server-hop mechanic (raiding) and bug-using?

Perhaaaaaaps you should do anything with raids, Rare? If not, please, make an official statement, that "raid" is an intended way to play the game and by saying so you sign that you are aware of raids' extreme profit and commendation farming, that in no way possible should be considered as a healthy thing for a game environment because it depreciates everything you do, every single aspect of the game.

Note: if you want to say something and it is going to be like "let people play the game the way they want to", then please don't. This thread is about developer's attitude, not yours.

  • @false-laroth I fully agree with the above. Do not add this mechanic, as a server-hop.

  • Haven't really done commodities because was busy with other stuff. And I'm quite disappointed to hear that commodities were nerfed.

I don't feel like I should waste my time on them (except for commendations) when there are better and more entertaining ways to get money and spend time.

If they were nerfed because of people abusing alliance mechanics, that's unfair to people who play the game as it is (and the way it was intended)

  • Even without taking the Alliance servers thing into account, it was still way to good. It still is way to good. Honestly at this moment I cannot think of any other activity worth doing if all you're interested in is gold. The ratio risk / reward is completely busted. I don't think that they nerfed it because of the Alliance servers.

  • They still pay out good, and I don’t think the risk/reward balance is off either. Everyone knows what is selling and where you can find people selling. All you have to do is camp out an outpost and people with nice loot (for whatever outpost your at) will come to you. 😈

  • It isnt hard to get gold in this game and any method with a level 5 flag will give a decent return.

The problem we have is that the predator group for emissaries, ie reapers, are marked on the map and are given their map view way too late into the server life to actually catch anyone.

How about making it that those with commodities actually show up to lower level reapers so there is some risk involved in the higher profits.

As to alliance servers, those that use them are basically rolling in gold anyway, so no amount of changes to the normal game are going to affect that.

  • @sally-kraken well ideally you would be an emissary as you need to be to purchase the commodities, though I can see how a permanent tag or a hint at the final destination of a merchant would be interesting.

Still, I think OP is right in saying for the average player this is a bad move. I personally had the best time making average money and rep doing a manifest voyage and commodities run for like an hour and a half each night. Easy to get EM5 and make decent money. Yeah this doesn't hit too hard but I think they need to balance the risk/reward again.

  • @false-laroth

The amount was too much flat out. Seriously it was and no there was no risk vs reward, it was just sail here or there and turn in.

The reason why everyone is so urinal is because it was easy as hell to do and you got a sheet ton of gold.

The Alliances do need to be addressed but this was nerfed because it was too much. Players were even saying it in insiders that it was too high and that it needed to be nerfed. How it was released without them fixing it first is their fault but lets not pretend that the earned gold for this was crazy.

A 100k to 500k solo for like 2 hours?? that is WAYYYYYY to much.

  • Apparently there's been a nerf but definitely not enough. I should not be earning 1M in 4hrs solo with minimal risk and no effort. Should be balanced so that it earns max 75% what a good crew churning out world events can make. Only that high because you have to put some of your own coin on the line. 100k per hour is about right for this I reckon.

@xultanis-dragon I don't think alliances need to be addressed until the pvp system gets addressed I can understand why people make alliance servers when they no longer can tolerate all the broken mechanics that make up the pvp system. Any of the numerous bugs in this game can cost you badly if they afflict you while in pvp.

Absolutely but then Rare also needs to balance the game based on the 99.8% not the .01% of the player base. Let the .01% ruin the game and economy for themselves. If we aren’t supposed to care how alliance servers play the game then the devs need to do so as well.

  • @goldseeker-gar said in Commodities nerf and issue of raids and bug users in general:

@kommodoreyenser Yea but complain ing about alliance servers as an exploit when there are so many pvp exploits is one sided if Rare can fix thier game then I would say it's reasonable to deal with those servers but seeing as Rare allows exploits in thier combat might as well allow the alliance exploit.

You miss my point. Alliance servers can exist, doesn’t really bother me anymore. Rare should not include any statistics from said group of players when calculating things like gold and rep gain though. Any balancing done off those numbers is a great error and injustice to the majority of the player base.

There will always be alliance servers, there will always be the hardcore player base that plays 6+ hours a day/40+ hours a week. You should never balance any game on how quick these people advance/gain gold/finish events. They are the .01%. You need to balance off the majority of players, the 98-99%.

  • Wow, this topic went all over the place! my thoughts on most of it

    1. alliance servers are fine, but this is a PVPVE game. if you have such hang-ups against PVP that you take extreme measures to avoid it, your missing the point of this game. period.
    2. stop saying that the cargo runs had no or little risk, it's not true. I have made a bunch of money just sitting at an outpost. trust me more people will take this strategy soon.
    3. Rare doesn't have to do anything. you can think they should do something or another, but they are free to do as they please. If you don't like it you are welcome to not spend any more money on their products.
    4. PVP is not broken. it has plenty of bugs and exploits, but MOST fights I am in are settled by skill level, I know because i have lost most of them ;). also show me any game that has PVP that has 0 bugs or exploits. where it's 100% fair and balanced. I can't think of a single one.
