Dear Rare, stop giving us hairstyles that make us look like vegan skrillex. You almost made some good female hair for once, but you shaved the side of the head. If you keep this up, i'm going to pull the "you're misogynistic" card. Let's be real, making things less feminine, does not make you woke. If anything its the opposite because you're making female things more masculine. :-) Not everyone is agender.
Rare, give us good female hair!

I'd play a female if I could rock a Farrah Fawcett 1970's hairstyle.
I miss the days when Stallone and Mel Gibson had the farrahair
twas a glorious time
@raengo in my and my friends opinion, all the hairstyles look bad, and just because one genders hairstyles are bad does not mean its misogynistic and even the other hairstyles for male pirates are bad. You have to remember this game takes place during pirate times which is widely different compared to now. all pirate hairstyles were basically the same like all female hairstyles looked shorter then the men's hairstyles but only if they are not sophisticated. rare also wants to make their game seem more true to how pirates are perceived.

Ngl its really cringe how people keep trying to compare SoT to real world pirates. As if real pirates had ashen curses, were fighting skeletons, and were shooting each other out of canons. Not to mention, majority of pirates were not female. Female "pirates" were getting r**ed and thrown into the ocean.
Most of the male hairstyles are not actually bad, and majority of the female hair is designed to also be suitable for male characters, making female pirates look like Neanderthals because the hair doesn't suit their head shape. And majority of straight women playing the game, like myself, do not want to wear short haircuts.
It's not about misogyny - its about Rare trying to be "woke" by trying to make the hair non-binary. Which just gives us bad hair and is the opposite of being woke. Being woke doesn't mean removing gender from video games.
@galactic-geek said in Rare, give us good female hair!:
@raengo It's not about being realistic, just inline with the time period.
Then maybe remove the option to play as a female pirate because in that time period they didn't really exist 🤷♀️
Also how is the Skrillex hair inline with the time period? Or majority of the clothing? 🤔
Edit: My bad, I forgot Skrillex made "Bangarang" in 1699 on the hurdy gurdy, because he was inspired by the cannon sounds from his crew destroying a Spanish vessel.
@raengo so its cringe to compare a game to the topic that the game is based off of? and as for curses, skeletons, and being crazy with their weapons, think about the time period this was a LONG time ago and most of those are just myths. i never said that the majority of pirates were female or not but what i did say is that their hairstyles were basically all the same unless they were sophisticated.
removing a gender? i am pretty sure that females are and will always be a gender but making hairstyles short for that gender is not trying to remove it but just sticking to the "Filthy Sea Dog" style, and as far as i am concerned hairstyles do not decide your gender but is a mere preference. i only mentioned misogyny because you had said you would have called rare misogynistic.@raengo On Contrary

There were female pirates, plenty of them. I agree with those who request better character options. Pirates were all kinds of so if you can add more variations.
I mean we have super chunky pirates and I don't know any that were that chunky, Those ships were small so no way there were that chunky pirates.
How are you going to play the misogynistic card?? I want to know how you are able to dictate what is feminine and what is not. Are you saying that the hair styles present are not feminine?? So you are saying that the women who like those hairstyles are not....feminine?? Careful careful, that could be construde as offensive dun dun duuuuuuuun.
I actually don't care either way, just thought it was a cheap shot is to "misogynistic" when women's greatest enemy is other women and not men.

Hi,
Actually no not really that's a bit of an exaggeration - historically documented women pirates were very rare and women were typically not allowed on pirate ships as a general rule of thumb anyway. We can corelate the lack of documentation with the typical attitudes towards women at the time to help confirm this.
Even the Royal Navy only let women go onto war ships in what 1990... (although they did serve on hospital ships since WW1), however there were cases of females dressing up as men to become pirates as you posted with Anne - but these are documented as also very rare occasions given the dangers, with some cases of women pirates being fictitious just for the romanticism.
That all said, nothing wrong with adding more haircuts. How about a massive 80's Tina Turner style bonnet!
Cheers

fine but longer hair
Women pirates might have been rare but the most powerful pirate was a woman and she hard the largest armada by far. So much so that the government didn't want to go against her. :). I'll let you look her up, its a good read. Just type in most powerful pirate:):) if google is being google and doesn't pull up, let me know and I'll link it.

You don't get the point, nor do you get that I was being sarcastic.
Also I am a woman, so yeah I am able to dictate.
If other women like those hairstyles there is nothing wrong it with it, but what is wrong is removing femininity from the game for the sake of trying to be "woke". Being a woman, means you can choose how you want to be. I choose to be more feminine - and I can't make my pirate look that way because of the trashy female hair in the game. This whole "woke" movement tries to erase femininity and move toward nonbinary.
If you don't know what femininity looks like then you're the type of person I was making fun of in my original post. Actually your whole comment shows that you're the type I'm making fun of, because you probably think that the hairstyles should be nonbinary.
That's all you're really worth conversing with, the fact you didn't get the initial sarcasm just shows you aren't bright enough for this conversation. Also the "I want to know how you are able to dictate what is feminine and what is not." Rightfully ticked me off because I am a woman. If you don't think I can speak for myself then you're inherently ignorant.
And I won't argue with the foolish, because you people can't hold a coherent argument.
Aka last time I'm responding to the lemmings.
Edit:
To dumb it down for the people who didn't understand what I meant by "I'm going to have to pull the 'you're misogynistic card'"...I was referring to how Rare is trying to appease the type of people who would say something like "you're misogynistic" (aka by making all the female hair nonbinary), and by doing so are disrespecting women because not all women want to be nonbinary. Hence, Rare is putting themselves in a catch-22.
I was also being sarcastic to a degree. I'm more in favor of them adding more character cosmetics, different hairs, beards, armpit hair, chest hair, feet hair.
Its a game where cosmetics are the main goal so I have no issue with it. Just wanted to do the whole sarcastic reply to your comment about misogyny.
However, the fact that you didn't understand my post and instead made a direct attack lets go ahead and point out that in actuality in today societal standards, suggesting anything is feminine or masculine is apparently sexist.
You can decide what is feminine because you are female?? Then I want to say that everything you suggest is feminine is masculine. I know because I'm a male and you can't decide for me. I also want to suggest that least another half what you suggest is (add whatever fad or clothing genre that would make you even more mad thats what I choose)
I actually have no stance on it either way. I couldn't care less but since you made it an issue I figured I might as well go full throttle into it.
Now it could have been my fault as I did not appropriately convey my sarcasm and because it seems that I have failed to convey sarcasm in my post. Well if thats true then I guess I would have to apologize. However, I do not understand how you didn't know I was being sarcastic though.
Especially when I add
Careful careful, that could be construde as offensive dun dun duuuuuuuun.
the dun dun duuuuuun part
and even say
I actually don't care either way
So it would seem that even though I specifically said I didn't actually CARE and that I was only replying because of the "misogynistic" comment but even then.
So how about you take a moment, step back, and take a chill pill. If my post came off as not sarcastic then I apologize even though I don't see HOW it couldn't have, if you want to take a moment and turn off your "I want to speak to your manager" transformation then we can let bygones be bygones.
SIDE NOTE could also have cosmetic for full body hair. Look like big foot. Could make that work with some highlighted tips. Be the big foot of Jersey Shore :).
Imagine there being a decent selection of hairstyles. You can only hope that a hairstlye you desire is added via Twitch drops or is a Season reward, as they hardly ever hairstyles anymore.
2018 - 20 new hairstyles (14 in one update!)
2019 - 2 new hairstyles (one locked to a tall-tale)
2020 - 5 new hairstyles (3 locked to pl, 2 twitch drops)
2021 - 8 new styles so far (4 via Season)
It looks like this year will be good for hairstyles, though I have some concerns. I'm fairly certain there won't be many updates that add 4 new styles at once like they have with the Dark Adventurer set, so at best we can hope for 4 new hairstyles with each season. That would be 12 new hairstyles by the end of this year, which is great and all, but it's kinda sad considering that we've gotten 14 new styles in one update in the past. And both of the Legendary hairstyles added this Season have been in the game, on NPCs of course, for over a year.
d r i p f e e dThe feminine hairstyles you desire are undoubtedly already in the game, you just have to hope they decide to release them lol.
