One Storage Crate

  • Let’s increase the real game time and accelerate the initial ship prep by having one storage crate available when you start a new game. Running back and forth on the dock, transferring supplies isn’t super entertaining. Storage crates are a nice feature and let’s vote to make them more available to reduce the tediuous aspects.

  • Dude, you keep asking the devs to make the game easier for you.
Since when was the pirate life about convenience?

Why dont you just sail over to some tiny island nearby and pluck a storage crate off the beach?
Grab that rowboat while your at it.

Who said you gotta stock up at an outpost when another crew may be inbound?

  • Why in my day they didn't have Storage Crates and Rowboats! You had to condense things all down into one barrel at the dock, and hope the island didn't reset while doing so!

  • @barnabas-seadog EXACTLY

  • Tbh rinsing an outpost for supplies and grabbing a voyage or two takes maybe 15 mins even when solo, so I don't think there's a great need to reduce it further.

After that, first order of business is to find a rowboat (usually comes with good supplies, helpful for sneaking away from sticky situations) and mercilessly chase down the first skeleton ship to cross your path (a decent clutch of loot, a supply crate, emissary grade rep). Doing all of that is fun, part of the adventure, a good way of picking up loot, and makes it easy to restock on further islands you visit, barrels etc.; your stockpile increases so quickly from there. You might choose not to do all of that; that's a playstyle choice and adds variety to the seas.

Having a supply crate from the start would reduce that variety, which I think would be a shame. It's good that the game presents you with those choices, and gives you the tools to make them without optimising itself around a particular playstyle. Storage crates are a kind of power multiplier currently, which again adds depth to gameplay, and would be lost if everyone always had one.

It's also nice on those occasions when you spawn to find someone has left a storage crate on the dock. It's an act of random kindness that I'd like to remain meaningful. If I have storage crates when I log off, I make sure to fill them as full as I have time for and leave them, hoping it'll make another pirate smile.

    Just my two cents.

[Edit: should add that stock, rowboat, skelly ship is my aim if I'm anticipating a longish session. If I want a quicker one, I'll just stock and head for the nearest/best island for whatever voyage I'm doing. Again, variety on the seas, choices to make and the tools to make them]

If you want to stop spending so much time at the initial outpost? Then maybe simply stop trying to collect everything from the outpost? Simply grab 2 sets of inventory if that and go out into the world. Harpoon a barrel on the way, grab a storage crate on the beach, row a lost rowboat to your ship... stocking has never been easier and can mainly be done during your exploration of the world.

  • Some interesting points of view. Been playing since launch (a couple of breaks) so I’m no noob. Maybe you get 1 crate and make it so they are no longer findable. I also leave my crates on the dock when headed to the tavern for the evening.

  • I don't see a reason to make you spawn with one because they are fairly abundant. After a 3 hour session I usually have, not exaggerating, 10+. Withing the first hour I can usually accumulat no less than 4. On rare occasions they can be harder to find but skelly ships, which are almost always available, are a guaranteed way to get one so I usually do a few if I'm lacking.
