Does anyone fear what way the direction of the game will go now it's releasing on Steam?

  • I've seen a ton of games over the years change from how they originally were, becoming crammed with excessive MT to choking point and I can't help but worry that Sea of Thieves will end up going that way.

As it currently stands the emporium is okay with how it handles content, but I've witnessed it many times before where successful microtransaction models breeds greed and rather than the extra game sales and store purchases generating enough money (especially as games come to new platforms), it encourages developers to turn the game towards further monetisation of in-game content.

    Are my concerns unrealistic?

  • I have to agree with you! It happened with STO went from over to Perfectworld and isn't the same since.

  • @khaifx Unrealistic? Sadly, no. Evidence in the past has proven otherwise.

  • no it's releasing to steam so that we can grow the pc population, calm down ....

  • I did hear a squeak somewhere that it isn't likely to be released on steam until the holidays 2020, coinsiding with the new Series X&S consoles launch.
    Who knows??

  • I personally think ALL micro transactions are bad for the game or any other game. The issue is, why grind out all this rep for a skin ship when I could go spend $5.00 on the MT store and get a WAY better looking ship with zero work? Now if maybe they would have kept it so the MT's are only for emotes and pets THAT would be ok.
