4Hr Haul Lost😢😭

  • Me and my friend sailed the seas for 4hrs doing gold hoarders then we decided to call it a night after we dig up the last treasure we both lost our focus and got creeped up on by a sloop we heard the canon shot but it was over before we could react 😢 gg to the sloop they got a big easy haul.

point of the story is allways keep a eye open for other ships

  • That ruined the night of one of my pals too, frankly, I can't even get him in the game anymore - he obviously disapproves of longer runs and lost loot. Honestly, it was all my fault anyhow - we had nothing but "garbage" loot anyhow, foul bounties, castaways, seafarers, when a skull popped up in the sky calling to my inner greed...

Sadly, in the long run we lost the fort, and the loot we were carrying - we really should have just turned in. I personally didn't care because I was having fun fighting with the other ships. Neither had some of my other crews, but he's not used to the nature of the game and the lost progress ruined his attitude towards the game since.

    My mistake indeed!

Moral of the story - before combat at least - turn in even "junk".

And at any rate turn in every 30 minutes or so I guess.

  • I always hit the outpost when I have 3-5 pieces of loot. When your out on the ocean for that long of a time span, your bound to encounter someone's attention. sorry to hear that

  • Point of the story is, this is how the game will lose all players and ended up closing its servers.

  • It would really be good if half the rewards (reputation and Gold) were paid out upon completion of the journey, the other half at cashing in. At least that you always get something for your work.

  • I give you a small virtual tap on the back and can't only say you will do better on your next game session 😊
But pop to the Out Post more often there is always one close by.

  • “Lost our focus” ah... it only takes a second haha. I feel for your loss

  • Losing all of your loot is the worst feeling ever, but props to you for being a great sport about it. Most people complain and scream about it, I've been in your shoes several times with Captains chests.

We all learn through the experience of failure!

  • You either re-visit outposts often, sucking the soul and momentum out of your crew or you keep spontaneously visiting new places on voyages increasing the risk, that's just how it goes.

  • Having that much loot on board, you needed to have one person keeping an eye on the ship, either being very close by it or on the boat itself. He sees ship, he raises the anchor, you catch the mermaid back on the ship or try to board the other ship coming towards you (if it comes within range).

  • @cave-waverider Reputation - loss, risk and negativity.:

Check out this thread if you haven’t already.

  • @blooddoll22 Only problem with frequent turn-ins is that it adds to the already large time investment needed to get anything done in the game.

Stocking your ship? Takes forever. Getting from A to B? Takes forever. Looking for some goofy little spot on a large island? Takes forever. Fighting a pack of flintlock gold skeletons on top of a large island nowhere near water or an ammo crate? Takes forever. Locked in combat against a competent crew? Takes forever.

Something somewhere needs to be streamlined so basic actions don't snowball into a six hour mash of "wasn't even worth it".

I've personally given up on gold and progression. Don't even care about it. Like you, I'll engage with a hold full of loot. Or bait people into engaging me by taunting them with upper tier items via the text wheel. Currently my only goal is watching people sink.

Your average player though will want something substantial for their time investment. The very least Rare could do would be to throw them a bone on some faction progression on completed voyages. So when someone like me comes along and ganks 4 hours worth of work they don't leave empty-handed. Technically, their contract was fulfilled. They found all the whatsits that was asked of them. Who turns the whatsits in for cash is irrelevant.

    I'll drink to that!

  • @blooddoll22 turning in every 30 minutes is a bit to often...that'll be after every voyage...when you do merchant voyages, it's ok, but not for gold hoarders or OoS...just always keep an eye on the horizon, or on big islands one stays always on or near the ship

  • @navarita not the fault of the game...but sadly true, some people need to change theyre playstyle or else they ruin it for themselves

Better you try to never use the anchor, or when you stopped, pull the sails up and then raise the anchor...you're faster putting the sails down than raising the anchor

Uhhhh, no. This is the basis of the game. Pirates, treasure, risk and fun. If you're going to quit because someone took your loot then I would question why you would play the game at all.

You should endeavor to be like @Darklaff-I-9-I and accept what happened and learn from the mistake rather than making baseless prognostications.

This guy gets it, this game punishes you for playing it. Having a good time? You're playing the game wrong. Didn't realize how long you've been since cashing rewards? You're playing the game wrong. I'm sorry but you have to be a m*******t or a s****t to enjoy the game as it is right now, it's brutal for no reason.

  • @darklaff-i-9-i I find the best way to combat this is to...

1). Park the vessel in a way that the surrounding island back ground helps camouflage it.

2). Never drop anchor unless in a storm. Always raise the sails to slow down to a dead stop. We have it down to a tee, an art form.
On a galleon this is best when the island name banner spashes across the screen and you have a good tail wind. Raise the two front sails leaving the rear sail until last to make momentum adjustments and provide easy, tighter, steering.
On a sloop it's about half sail when the island name banner appears then slowly reducing as you see fit.

3). Adjust sails to the wind even though they may be fully raised. This ensures a faster launch. Center the wheel so your rudder is straight. Not only going by the gold k**b on the wheel but the actual thud when it's properly centered.

4). Rotate players on the ship. As soon as one dies or starts to swim to the ship the roles change and the look-out goes to shore.

5). Position your vessel closest to the "X" spot on the map if that's the type of quest you're doing at any given time. If you are doing OoS quests then park at a beach and entice the skeletons to come down to meet your cannons.
Although we scour all islands for bonus chests and "shiny" treasures we are (usually) fast and efficient spending as little time as possible at any given island or outpost.

6). Chart your entire quests out on the map table as one huge voyage, that's what it's there for. Decide on a route and you are sure to pass many outposts along the way.

7). Cash-in more often. There are six outposts on the map and no excuse for them to break up your momentum unless you are chasing an achievement and even that is a one-of thing.

  • @navarita How much you risk to lose in a pirate game is entirely up to you.

  • @admiral-rrrsole I guarantee you being parked against an island background does nothing to camouflage you. Your ship's silhouette is very black and it stands out like neon.
To me at least. The contrast against the environment or horizon is extremely noticeable. I don't know if it's my color settings or what, but ships stick out like a sore thumb and it amazes me that some people I play with still can't tell a ship from a rock, a tree, or a cannon tower. They look nothing alike.

I am almost completely deaf so maybe I'm picking up on more visual cues than your average bear, but to me these ship silhouettes may as well be ridiculous glowing "WE ARE HERE!!!" signs.

I also don't cash in often. The game is just a huge time sink and the payouts are so minuscule that it's not really worth my time to keep stopping for peanuts.

    Aside from that, solid advice.

As for the anchor, I cover it in chicken coops, pig crates, and snake cages then threaten to brig anyone who touches the thing. For real. Don't drop the anchor unless there's a storm.

  • @mrgrim67686 lol We'd make a good pair as I'm almost blind, playing on a 19" monitor and a low-end PC with everything turned down to the minimum.

Yes parked ships can be seen when you are closer to an island and more easier using "eye of reach" but at distanced it's better than sticking out like a sore thumb.
We have seen ships parked so far away from the nearest island it's ridiculous. Not only risking an attack but also time wasted swimming such a great distance and of course the possibility of shark attacks is also increased.
These were definitely not at shipwrecks, so go figure.

As for the game being "just a huge time sink", well bud, that's what games are. The rewards are BS, I agree but take the cost of the game and divide it by hours played. It might not be anywhere near the joy of a lap dance but it sure lasts longer. lol

Fair winds and happy sailing. :o)

  • I hunted a Galleon last night, catching the 2 man crew unaware at Sunken Grove. If this was you guys I am sorry. You might happy to know your loot haul glitched and could not be picked up from the sea, as is often the case.

    Sea of Bugs.

huh... see, I go for sailing into the island at speed an' dropping anchor, raising sails then raise anchor again. A crew working together can get this achieved in a couple o' seconds an' you don't need to slow down on the approach. Takes a good helmsman to maneuver at speed mind you.

I do the same on my solo sloop so I ne'er need to slow down on approach.

Interesting to see others wit a different approach.

  • @darklaff-i-9-i While I support OP for not crying about losing said stuff this thread pops up way too often. People cannot steal what you have turned in. If you have a "4 hour haul" on your ship you are asking for someone to take it. Not trying to be a troll but seriously what is the allure of keeping so much stuff on your ship at once?

  • @navarita said in 4Hr Haul Lost😢😭:

What are you talking about???? this is how the game works. His point was that he should have been more diligent in keeping an eye out for other ships, not leave the game and shut it down for good.

    Your comprehension grade: F

  • @rumham636 we like to stay out there its the 2nd time its happend so it rarely happends we usually more aware of our surroundings

I won't disagree - but if someone is going to complain about the issue - they can choose methods to avoid the issue. Personally? I might finish 2-3 voyages ... but I might also only finish 1/2 a voyage... all depend son the mood of the day. :D

  • We don't consider loot ours until it's turned in, It helps with the occasional times we lose it. Easy come easy go.

I agree that you should get a percentage of the XP at least upon completion of a voyage. Gold and extra XP on turn in. That way a successful voyage has some value even if you get ganked on the way back to an outpost. You don't get the gold but it doesn't feel like a complete waste of time.

  • Sorry, if it was us. Good rule if ur on a sloop is dont stockpile. We stockpile on our galley to entice players to come for it. I always feel bad when we bully a sloop and destroy em. But these days ALL we see are damn sloops. It's a fun a*s ship but ....

Sadly everyone on my friends list quit playing because of this. And lack of incentive to even lvl up. We’ll see if they turn this game around. I imagine there losing players more than gaining players.

  • Oof, I'm sorry dude

  • @personalc0ffee
Yeah I agree, stacking tons of loot is too risky, everytime we have over 6 items and sail by an outpost we sell
