@darklaff-i-9-i I find the best way to combat this is to...
1). Park the vessel in a way that the surrounding island back ground helps camouflage it.
2). Never drop anchor unless in a storm. Always raise the sails to slow down to a dead stop. We have it down to a tee, an art form.
On a galleon this is best when the island name banner spashes across the screen and you have a good tail wind. Raise the two front sails leaving the rear sail until last to make momentum adjustments and provide easy, tighter, steering.
On a sloop it's about half sail when the island name banner appears then slowly reducing as you see fit.
3). Adjust sails to the wind even though they may be fully raised. This ensures a faster launch. Center the wheel so your rudder is straight. Not only going by the gold k**b on the wheel but the actual thud when it's properly centered.
4). Rotate players on the ship. As soon as one dies or starts to swim to the ship the roles change and the look-out goes to shore.
5). Position your vessel closest to the "X" spot on the map if that's the type of quest you're doing at any given time. If you are doing OoS quests then park at a beach and entice the skeletons to come down to meet your cannons.
Although we scour all islands for bonus chests and "shiny" treasures we are (usually) fast and efficient spending as little time as possible at any given island or outpost.
6). Chart your entire quests out on the map table as one huge voyage, that's what it's there for. Decide on a route and you are sure to pass many outposts along the way.
7). Cash-in more often. There are six outposts on the map and no excuse for them to break up your momentum unless you are chasing an achievement and even that is a one-of thing.
