As a controller player I feel I am not getting to experience all aspects of the game the way I would if I played on mouse and keyboard.
I have assigned buttons to wood, bucket, food, throwables, and bait as quick access to these is necessary for a good combat experience. This leaves me one button which I have to choose to assign to pirate chat, pirate wheel of emotions, switch blowdarts, crouch etc. I feel like whatever I choose for my last button I am missing out on one or more important aspects of the game that the developers have worked hard to include.
No pirate chat means less/ no communication with team mates or other pirates. No pirate wheel of emotions means no tucking or hiding. No crouch means no sneaking around/ arming/ disabling traps. No switch blowdarts button means not using the blowpipe (unless you use the left bumper/ item radial to change darts which I find far too clunky to be fun.)
I feel like there could/ should be some quality of life changes for controller players that would enhance the experiences such as:
Additional radial menus - There's already a selection of radial menus by holding the radial menu button and pressing another button. I don't see why this can't be expanded. e.g. add pirate chat/ pirate wheel of emotions as extensions to the item radial menu.
Customizeable radial menus - If we've assigned buttons to items like food/ wood, we should be able to remove them from the radial menus in favour of other actions/ items.
Differentiate between pressing and holding a button when mapping actions to controller buttons. They already do this with the blowdart menu (press to switch to the next dart. Hold to open the dart radial). I think more could be made of this.
