Announcing the Gamescom Sea of Thieves Technical Alpha Play Session

We've got some special news to share about our latest Sea of Thieves Technical Alpha play session!

This week we’re heading over to Gamescom with a brand new Sea of Thieves build! Attendees will be able to try out our recently announced cross play feature, which means fans on the show floor can crew up together regardless of whether they’re playing on Xbox One or Windows 10 PC.

As part of our Gamescom 2017 festivities, the Sea of Thieves Technical Alpha play session series also continues this week, and we’ve brought in a further 20,000 Insiders – that’s 16,000 invited on Xbox One and 4,000 invited on Windows 10 PC! What’s more, we’re doing something we’ve never done before. Well, two things if you count the fact that Technical Alpha players will be sinking their hooks into the same build we’re showing on the Gamescom show floor, but there’s more to the story.

This Technical Alpha will mark the first time we’ve ever run a play session for more than 24 hours, so players will have an open licence to commit larceny on the high seas for five days straight! This means that from 8am BST on Tuesday 22nd August right through to 8am BST on Sunday 27th August, Technical Alpha players are free to plunder, pillage and take part in a special in-game campaign, the winners of which will score themselves some very special treasure.

It’s safe to say that whether you’re following our activity at Gamescom or playing at home in the Technical Alpha, there’s a lot of Sea of Thieves love to go around this week, so don’t forget to connect with us on our social channels to stay up to date!

Please note that while this session is cross play, participants only have Technical Alpha access for the platform they were invited to play on.
