An up tick in shoot first ask questions later players!

  • Today has been an all day cannon ball fest. I'm a turn in and go kinda solo player so I'm not complaining. But it's been rare that every ship I've seen has come full bare!

Dont get me wrong, I had a blast with pvping, but I accomplished nothing because it was a non stop volley!
Is this the streamer influence? And am I alone?

  • @hooligan-wift No, you're not alone. The streamers want to push constant content and shooting first is one o f the better ways to do it. Honestly, I enjoy choosing peace first, then war.

  • @unpossibear Agreed. I don't mind pvp at all. And like I said, I didnt lose anything today. But it's been a pretty nice few months of skirmishes. This feels like wars!

They will fade away or keep it up I guess. But today was the first day I have noticed a difference.

I have noticed this over the last few weeks really and haven't met a friendly crew in ages. I know the whole "it's a pirate game" thing but honestly I personally have a much better time within this game when meeting friendly crews too occasionally.

  • @timboagogo totally agree! And I'm a pvper at heart. But with alliance flags I had a great time of just budding up and reaping the rewards!

  • I've been having a bit of a mixed bag.

It sort of seems there are only two sorts of servers right now. Ones where it's non stop combat 24/7 and ones where it's really quiet and nobody goes near one another.

It's probably a natural thing. If I'm not in the mood for a 24/7 KOS fest I'll just cut my losses and server hop. I think most people not up for an intense PVP session do, this means that through natural selection you end up with quiet servers and servers that are full of action, because people who just want to be left alone will accumulate on servers that they don't get attacked on, while PVP hungry pirates only tend to hop when they're on empty servers.

It's almost a given that if I want to PVP I'll be on a quiet server and if I want to be left in peace the server will be a warzone. That's just how my luck seems to work though, I don't have any evidence to support the notion that the game has some sort of spiteful mindreading algorithim.

We've had mixed fortunes, what there does seem to be are a lot of new players on the seas, white sails and basic hull.

We met a guy at the Outpost last night as we spawned in who'd been sunk by Meg and needed a little help finding his way around, he was trying a galleon solo after a lot of sloop sailing apparently and then another sloop who fled from Cannon Cove but left someone ashore who tried to steal our ship and then others who've just seen our sails and turned tail and headed off in the other direction. We had the Reaper's Mark on for commendations which seems to make a big difference to encounters, not necessarily negatively either :)

Every session is slightly different and some days you'll come across everything that wants to sink you... others it'll be peaceful and yet others will be a mixed bag, that's the beauty of the game. It can also be determined by how and where you sail, whether you keep to the outskirts, hide behind the islands or sail out in the open regardless.

  • Yeh it is just your luck who you come across I suppose. Personally I LOVE PvP but you do on occasion come across some friendly souls and have some fun banter.

With regards to streamers. For some of them they rely on content to earn a living. Even if that includes blowing another poor ship straight to the depths. No-one can fault the big streamers for the current surge of PvP in the game. If anything it has boosted the popularity of the game and seen it's biggest player base to date.

All I can say is a hope more big streamers jump on board and join Summit, Doc and Ninja and promote this beautiful game

  • I don't think we can blame it only on streamers and the preference of them providing entertainment through PvP action.

There a couple of other aspects to consider:

    1. It has been a while since we had Duke provide us with something new, so the options are for most: PvE voyage, cloud events, big game hunting or PvP. Most will change it up and usually if Duke isn't providing us with new challenges the sea slowly turns more hostile.
    2. Arena is coming up and there a bunch of pirates out there that want to practice their combat skills and be ready for battle.

Also, shooting first doesn't mean you can't turn it around. I often negotiate a truce or create allies usually with the key phrase: Why so aggressive boys? What are we up to today? While their swords are smashing into mine.

Just because voice is usually used for banter or worse during combat, it can also use it to have a conversation with the pirates trying to slice you up.
