Separate PVP and PVE

  • @schelmflosse300 AGAIN... Not talking about "loot" I have had issues simply completing merchant voyages where I am carrying ZERO loot, only crates (either empty or filled with pigs and chickens which I have been hauling from island to island. Feeding the pigs, and trying to keep them alive while searching several islands to satisfy the bounty) and have waved, flashed lights, jumped up and down, used game chat, sent messages... NOTHING STOPS THESE JERKS who are bent on simply turning my effort and time to waste with no real gains for them. Empty crates and coups have ZERO VALUE.

Again, merchant voyages are at the root of MY problem. I think there should, at the very least, be some consideration given to how the merchant voyage portion of the game works. I don't have solutions, I just know that denying that there are people out there who are taking advantage of harmless players for nothing more that the satifaction of being an a***e isn't it.

  • @schelmflosse300 Empty crates and coups have ZERO VALUE.

Pretty sure you meant unfullfilled value

  • @coel03 and I'm positive you're wrong. I mean they have no value. Zero. If they are are empty, THEY ARE WORTHLESS UNTIL FILLED WITH GOLDEN ANIMALS. AND CARRY VERY LITTLE VALUE OFF VOYAGE/BOUNTY. I didn't ask for an interpreter.

  • No way. Why even play the game without the feeling of a looming ship around the corner.

  • @blg-strong-dad said in Separate PVP and PVE:

"But it's cosmetics only!" Correct, and you'll get all the cosmetics everyone else worked hard for with no effort.

Yes, but who cares?! It will not effect you at all. Let people play how they want to as long as it doesn't interfere with how others want to play.

  • @princes-lettuce said in Separate PVP and PVE:

The only thing you would be 'missing' are easy targets.

    Exactly!

  • @horizonlegendo said in Separate PVP and PVE:

Separate PVP and PVE is a terrible idea and yet it get's replied to every day over and over again...

Which means enough of the player base is interested in seeing this implemented.

  • If they eventually implement PVE/PVP servers, it'll probably be the b e s t thing for PVP since everyone on PVP servers will be open to the idea of PVP. As it stands now, a lot of encounters are one ship constantly running away from another. That's not PVP, that's racing.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with you my good man. Allowing a PvE server with the same progression will make it so ALL progression is earned that way. I love the PvP but if I'm given the choice to take on enemies or "rep up" and earn in a safe enviornment who wouldn't take that as the better alternative. The PvP servers would be desolate and barren. Sure some people would stick around but the PvE would become the norm and that goes against everything the game stands for. The constant threat of piracy is the biggest aspect in doing any mission. Period. I was pretty active in this thread a couple days ago with OP but if you want PvE separated then you're essentially playing "Merchant Simulator with Skeletons."

  • I agree that they should separate the players a little based on what they want from the game.
I don't get sunk all that often because I'm play in a deep paranoia that keeps me checking the horizon.
That being said? I've been chased dozens of times with absolutely nothing in my hold. I've been chased by pirates who didn't realize I was jumping in the water and turning in treasure at outposts. I've been chased by players for hours at a time, no matter how many times I've sailed circles around them and made them run aground.
It feels great to school somebody like that, but it's not that much fun and it can be frustrating to the point where you just quit.
All these trolls saying it's a Care Bear server or something are missing the point. This is all a result of Rare not putting one single plot point in their game and simply charging full price for a never ending fetch quest system whose only reward comes at the extreme end of any mission.

That's not true. If I take them from you I save time and also I dont have to pay for them

  • @coel03 you don't... ever pay for them? Lol

  • @seahorsesforevr but dont you? Does the merchant just give them to you?

  • @coel03 yeah you buy the mission and then the merchant just hands them to you once it's been voted on

  • Giving options to players? Please, no! I really REALLY want this game's playerb ase to be as limited as possible!! That's good for games as a service, right??

  • @seahorsesforevr got it you bought the cages

  • @the-kr1tt3r try being aggressive back. Some people seek out friendly's to loot and plunder because they are easy targets. That and your spy glass is a solo players best friend.

  • @pikavenger No, because that is the principal the game is built on. An even playing field. You shouldn't earn the same rewards as me with half the effort. And no, I'm not going to play little pve servers to make it easier on myself because that's the lamest thing I've ever heard. If you're not capable of learning to defend yourself then that is just on you. Everyone else learned to do it so I'm sure you could figure it out. If you're THAT against pvevp then maybe find something else. You're asking them to change the core of their game because you don't like it, do you see how entitled you sound? Rare's vision is a shared experience, not a divided one because you don't like pvp. Every single player will get burned at some point, it's part of the game. We'll get ganked, robbed, sunk, whatever. The difference is who can simply accept that and learn from it and those who cannot.

Yeah, I am going to ask them to change the core of the game because enough people are asking for it. Plus the addition of PVE servers would allow for people with accessibility problems to be able to play without being preyed upon.

It literally will never effect you, so I don't know why you're so up in arms about it.

  • @the-kr1tt3r said in Separate PVP and PVE:

Why bother Questing? Love the sailing and treasure hunting, but forced PVP is NOT fun. I enjoy hunting for treasure, merchant quests, solving riddles and killing skeletons. I DO NOT enjoy be FORCED to fight other players all the time.

The ENTIRE point of the game is that you are free to choose how you approach the game. Just like in real life you must make the choice to trust people. It's a pirate game. It is called Sea of Thieves. If you don't want to PvP, learn to run. I feel no sympathy for someone who bought a pirate game and is sad because someone stole from them.

The game needs no adjustment, you need to adjust your expectations of the game you decided to buy.

  • @m1sterpunch said in Separate PVP and PVE:

Single biggest tip PvE players need to learn.

I mostly play PvE, though if pressed I can pump a boat full of cannon balls. That being said since I just started bugging out everytime I see a ship headed my way I haven't had an issue. You just have to be good at sailing, rub people off on some rocks, or a cannon tower or a gap or something. Wait for them to try and do a turn and shoot at you and continue sailing away at top speed.

Actually they have instrumental value as well as potential value; instrumental value in that they are actually the instruments needed to turn in more intrinsically valuable things and potentially valuable in that every time they are stolen from you they can be potentially filled with golden and black animals so, they do in fact have value.

@the-kr1tt3r Maybe this whole thread should be discussed as part of an existing megathread:
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/57995/mega-thread-balancing-exploration-and-player-combat-part-5

PvP in SoT is Rares plan of risk vs. reward in this game. Aggressive players are sadly a common thing nowadays in many games, it takes luck to encounter friendly crews.

Also, why is this thread still open; this conversation clearly belongs in the existing megathread.
