@captthreepwood look at that games cosmetics. A majority of them are in the style you described here. Scissor knives, a whole set of stick weapons, CD tks, a giant spoon sledge, list goes on.
Oh, mate, I am so sorry but I think you didn't get the correct vibe.
None of those elements are even close to the style I am proposing here. Let me try to explain it again so may be I can put you into better context:
For a minute imagine you born in the seventies and grow up on the 80s and 90s. No internet (or very limited). Not even a large collection of movies either. You are lucky if you see 2 or 3 shows per week. Your life is surrounded by people, not technology. Your family have a black box called VCR. A device with a few cables you install bellow your 21" TV in which you put a VHS cassete inside (a black plastic thing) so you watch a movie. Today's movie is Treasure Island. If today you can watch it, may be you will recognice a very young Christian Bale (yes... when batman was a kid, he was a pirate XD ).
During the week, you friends also watch that movie so next time you go to the streets to play, you go to a corner of your neighbourhood where there is an abandoned car you use as fit. One day is a fort, another day is a starwars ship, another day is a tank, another day is a capsule in the space. Today is a pirate ship. The ceiling of the car is open (used to have a window in it) so it is your crownest. The sit belt is still there so you use it as a rope to hang outside of your ship. Now you are Jim, the 90s Jack Sparrow. Your friends comes and join the crew. One brings a branch. He has a sword now. The rolled paper is your spyglass. You go out by the window of the ceiling and scream "ship ahead!" ... there is nothing in front of the car, may be just the old Pete with his dog. If you are lucky, Pete will play along and scream "Oh on! Pirates!" while walking the dog, and other events like that. After a few hours, the night falls and your mother calls you back. It is also a sunset for your story. Your ship and your crew are fine. Tomorrow you will see another horizon... or another movie...
So.. you see?... In this context, scissor-knives, CDs or a spoon-thing does not really fit in the set.
The fact that some elements exists in that time period, doesn't mean that you have to apply it.
Yeah... I know it is a lot of text. :)
