Hard Data for Reputation Levels

  • so a big part of the frustration around grinding emissary rep is that there's no way of knowing how much loot you'll need to turn in before hitting the next level. What we do know:
!. Treasure has fixed XP values (aka a castaway chest is always worth a set amount of xp no matter how much it sells for)
    2. You get more XP for rarer treasure. (If a castaway chest was worth 1 XP, a captains chest is worth 10, etc.)
    3. Each level has a higher XP cost than the last (if Gold hoarders 10 requires 100 xp, 15 requires 200, etc).

The problem is that while we know how the system works generally, we have no hard numbers to look at- as such, when we hit, say, gold hoarders 48, we don't know if its gonna take 200 captains chssts or 300 to reach 49.

Has anyone ever done a dive into the game files to see what these values are?

  • @diligentauto1 no one has the actual figures but Rare. Data mining is a no no on this forum. It’s safe to assume higher value loot is higher value XP.

  • @satanicnemesis "datamining is a no no" what are we in kindergarten? You purchased a game. The bytes of data are part of that game. What possible justification could there be for looking at that data being "a no no"? Why would rare be at all upset with those numbers being widely available? How could it possibly hurt the game to know how it works instead of "durr, bigger is better because my concept of reality hasn't aged since I was 7?"

  • @diligentauto1 need to ask a mod that one. @Deckhands

  • Beauty of it is, the unknown and just keep going regardless of the information.

It falls under the subject of hacking thus not allowed to be discussed on these forums. Many sites have such rules in place that prohibit talks of hacking/cheats/datamining on their boards so as to not promote such behavior.

  • @DiligentAuto1 The very helpful members above are correct - discussions of the content found by these means are not allowed on the forum.

    This decision is final.

Alright. Here's a question not related to datamining. Why are there no numbers provided for XP rates/levels in this game? Why does Rare refuse to provide them? How would having this information hurt gameplay?

Trying to shut down the conversation with a straw-man argument about hacking completely ignores the point of my original post. This information should be provided by Rare, in game, on the screen. It's absurd that we have to sit here and guess at what each item is worth and how long its going to take to hit level 75, and I want to know why Rare won't give us that info.

  • @diligentauto1 why do you want to know how many captains chest you need to lvl up? Does it lvl up faster if you know? Just play the game and you will get it sometime...

  • @diligentauto1 Nearly three years, now. I (and many others) have been playing this game for three years.

We didn't need the answers to this question, why do you?

  • @diligentauto1 For a non-datamining related answer, no one is going to have access to those numbers except for Rare because all treasure value is server side. The only thing data mining will get you is models, text strings and other unreleased assets but no mechanical data or item values.

If you want to do your own experimentation to work out how many chests or how much XP per level is needed you can do that. Someone had figured out the exact count of Legendary Chests per Athena level prior to all the athena trinkets being added so it's possible.

  • Apologies if my "Decision is final" answer was a bit off-key compared to my normal cheery posts.

But it does still stand discussions around any kind of data mined content is a no no :)

As you were guys... happy sailing!
