Single player desperately needed!!!!

  • I just started really getting into the game and as a single father ive burnt dinner several times, find myself getting angry when my kids interrupt my session. All this is because of the PvP nature of the game. I need to worry about losing my ship and all my loot, I try to remember oh go turn off the stove in 30 minutes then someone starts chasing me for an hour. Then if I go afk to actually perform my fatherly duties I might get kicked from the game for being gone to long and lose everything but I also cant afford the 10-15 minutes to get to an outpost and sell depending on where I am at.

I love the game but it seems like its made for single kids who dont have jobs and still live in their parents basements, or streamers whos job it is to play all day and have no other real world responsibilities. I dont think its healthy for a company to have an attitude of "well maybe this game just isnt for you then" or "put your kids up for adoption, problem solved"

You claim the game is for everyone but due to the long session nature of the game it seems to exclude people who actually have responsibilities. I dont want to play with randoms, I sometimes play with my brother which then I know he can manage the ship on his own so I can step away for a few but when I am along theres just this disgusting feeling of not being able to look away for a minute or I will get screwed. I have had to deal with plenty of AI threats between skeleton ships, megs, krakens, i feel theres enough world threats to keep the game feeling alive the need for enemy player ships doesnt seem like a requirement for fun. My brother keeps trying to get me to join a PvE discord because then I could afk a few and dont have to worry about the boats or enemy ships but I dont want to have to go through a job interview to get onto a discord then wait in que for hours to get on a PvE server. The demand for this play style is there, discords already do it, whats the harm in letting everyone do it? literally the ONLY people arguing against it are the pvp galleon crews who go around destroying solo players, all this will do is create fair play for them and maybe an actual challenge as they will be more likely to run into other larger crews rather than bullying the sloops.

The only AI threat that seems to be missing from the game is during skeleton ship encounters they dont ever try to board you, but they have infinite supply of curse, fire, normal canon balls.

Because everyone will do it and the game as it currently works and thousands of people already enjoy will not be the same.

You can't buy a multiplayer game and then expect everything to pause because you have to leave your computer for a few minutes. We all have to get up to use the bathroom, or answer the phone, or whatever occasionally and if it so happens that we are playing a multiplayer game then I guess we either log out or take our chances.

  • You think PvP is the toughest battle in this game? No, asking for a private, single player mode is the toughest battle. Why? Because it goes against the very nature of this game: a shared world adventure game.

I work 60 hours a week in my main job
I work another 10-15 in my side job
I schedule dedicated SoT time once a week for 4 hours.

Keep playing through the frustration and you'll discover how amazing this game can be. You'll come to the dark side soon enough.

The entire opening reads as a person who needs to get their priorities in order. Its not the games fault you burnt dinner, like honestly. I am a single dude who doesn't live in Ma and Pa's basement. You don't see me burning dinner, you may wonder why? Due to the fact that I just focus on dinner rather than play something I can't walk away from. This can be said about many other games. Ranked matches in League or Overwatch, or any other multiplayer game.

I love the game but it seems like its made for single kids who dont have jobs and still live in their parents basements, or streamers whos job it is to play all day and have no other real world responsibilities.

Man this reads as bitter resentment towards your peers. Plenty of us have responsibilities and still find time to play. Many of us are Adults with full time jobs with familial responsibilities. Welcome to adulthood, the world doesn't stop because of your life decisions. You purchased a multiplayer game, what else can you expect from it?

Nice. You spent a lot of your post insulting the rest of us who play the game. You are not the only person here with outside responsibilities. We just don’t try to play when we have other things to attend to. We also don’t complain and insult everyone else when the game does not conform to our personal situation. Your proposed change would have a detrimental impact on the game for others.

  • I feel your pain. I can't count the times I've had to make an agonizing decision to end a session that's run too long. These days, as a solo player, going afk for any amount of time can spell ruin; either by straight up PvP, PvE, or worse IMO, your ship gets infested with tuckers.

After having this discussion somewhere else on the forums, I wonder if a single-player/co-op version of this game would be the answer.

A completely separate, Linear, SoT experience for those who want it. No crossover of gold, rep and commendations. Just Tall Tales, PvE and Voyages. They could tier the Tall Tales, requiring certain levels to be reached before you could set out on them. Again: there would be no crossover from this version to standard, open world SoT, which should calm those worried about others gaming the system.

Most importantly, this would allow for a PAUSE and SAVE feature.

Why not allow more people to enjoy the game? If it's separate from the Multiplayer game with no crossover? I could see myself enjoying both versions: Multiplayer when I have my crew, and Single-player when I'm on a tight schedule or solo.

  • I work full time, have two kids too. And have to deal with interruptions non stop too. But that's parenthood.

There are two places i will sail to if I'm solo where I have never been bothered by another player whilst I go about my chores.
The very North West of the map has some large rocks, perfect for hiding a sloop behind, and again, the very South East of the map, there is another huge rock to nestle behind, no worries about the volcano there and no one is likely to see you.
You just have to wiggle your controller now and then or a rubber band method of your choice.

But it takes time to sail to these locations, so you need to plan ahead, if you want to continue your session. Just don't have an emissary flag or a reapers chest revealing your location.. Been using these hiding spots for ever. Never once failed.

  • @nabberwar heres a thing i would like to say to you its hard for many people to play that game during all this yeah sure your fine with your stuff bur he probably has more problems to deal with while you dont have much just let him be

  • @xx-mirth-xx before i say anything i have fun pvping alot as well and everyone needs to learn it at some point even this guy but heres two things

private server for friends without the benefits or limited amount of money would be fun as you can make story videos or have battles with friends like from pirates of the Caribbean and second of all some sort of single player mode sounds like fun like some sort of story mode type thing cause many people would love to play the game but cant because of them not having xbox live or internet to play it on so their would be something else they could play as well as a version of multiplayer thats harder for single players after the story so when they do get xbox live and play with others they get the grind and stuff over with and learn the ways of the game faster without delay

  • @the-bomb-45tyle

    Without Internet?

How would that work.. Is this the 1980's

How would the game even install or update?

  • The game was literally made for the pvp and pve together, stop campaigning to change it into something it's never wanted to be. The pvp crowd aren't the only ones against it, the developers are against it too. You want pve only, play around in the maiden voyage and the ferry.

  • @the-bomb-45tyle A private server without progression or commendations that you can use to play with friends sounds fun to me.

The Story Mode also is really interesting, as long as there would be other players also in the same Story Mode shared world. Interactions with other players should be in every game mode, in my opinion. It's that potential consequence that makes the game so interesting.

I was doing a tall tale the other day and we have to decide if one person stayed on the boat to watch for other players or if we should all go into the cave. We decided we should all go so we could all experience the story. As we finished the tale, we heard cannon fire and all ran back to our boat, hearts pounding, only to find that two other ships were battling it out nearby.

That feeling of taking a chance (going into the cave together), then the feeling of dread (thinking you're being attacked), then the feeling of relief (not being attacked), creates an experience that I haven't found in many other games. It's worth it, in my opinion.

  • I really do find your post to be rude to the player base because you are upset. I am a solo/coop slooper much like yourself when I do not know if I will have a partner to play with, but I fight for PVP in this game. As others have pointed out, while disappointing there is a rush and a feel to this game that would be gone without PVPers. They have their place and Adventure mode is it!

Changing anything about the world or adding a PVE server only would destroy the Reaper's Emissary and commendations that require people to do things when non friendly ships are around.

I feel sorry that you cannot enjoy the game in its entirety and I will not tell you how to play the game, but you make choices in the game and in life, unfortunately begging for a PVE server is not a choice that many take lightly and the devs do not seem to want it either.

I am personally all for keeping this game as is!

  • Sea of Thieves; 8/10.
Amazing game, but it was kind of weird when RARE demanded that I put my non-existent kids up for adoption.

  • @FormlessZulu515

Sounds like you need to reprioritize your life. If PvP causes you to rage at your kids, then stay away from the other ships or play when the kids aren't around, or in bed. Rubber bands are the anti-AFK for me. I'd try them if I were you. The majority of us do have responsibilities, and we take care of them before we play.

  • Didn't even read this. I raised two by myself. The oldest is now 27 and the youngest is 23. Manchild has a daughter who will be 2 on the 19th and both live with me.

You know what I dont or didn't do while kids under my charge are awake? Play video games. The priorities are yours, not Rare's.

  • The SoT forums are actually very helpful until you ask for something they don't like; then everything is OP's fault.

I mean yeah...I sure hope it isn't someone else's fault that OP has kids.

  • @formlesszulu515 Sounds like you need to choose the most trustworthy of your spawn to become First Mate and tend to the ship while you have RL duties to perform.
Though be careful, I taught my 11 year old step-son how to play and now he's more bloodthirsty than I in PvP and gets carried away barking orders at me. LOL, though he still hasn't learned not to bring a Boom barrel back to the ship if I am still on board.

  • @formlesszulu515 "just pause the game"
    "But it's a multiplayer game" 🤦🏻‍♂️

Don't buy a muliplayer game, if you can't handle it

  • I have two Jobs, own home, not married and pay my own bills. Yet I still find time to play this game, solo slooping and all.

So yeah, that argument at the beginning is invaild.
It is tho, "Teen" not "E" for Everyone :p

I'm against the idea for Single Player, because...it will remove a lot of gameplay for single players.

    • FOTD? Forget about it as you need to kill a player to get the Pink Light.
    • Never knowing who will appear, friend or foe and either offer a hand or take you on in a fight.
    • Looting....

Seems to me, you have your own Life issues to manage and sadly, shouldnt bother with this type of game if you cant even recall to turn off a stove or cook.
AFK is in every video game and most online ones will kick you, to make room for those who aren't.

  • @formlesszulu515 +1 for no separate PVE. I'm a dad of two young kids and the best part of my night is stealthily avoiding grief while I undertake quests.

  • @formlesszulu515

Giving SoT a single player option would kill the thrill and point of this game. Sorry mate, but if you want single player pirate action, there are plenty of other titles like assassins creed pirate title. SoT isn't for everyone, and interaction with other players is vital to the core of the games principals. Sail Together matey! See you AFK on the open seas me harty!

  • @formlesszulu515 no

  • I agree, would love for them to implement something like this.

  • OP - That's kinda dumb, you try to shame others who have a different life than you, especially when you chose that life, in the case of the dad thing... Being a parent doesn't make you better or more important than anyone else, just a reminder. I want to be with you on this but the tired meme that "other people aren't normal or aren't human therefor I am right" really just makes you look bitter, and in my case, makes me want to frustrate you more. My angle is - we paid for the game. The game looked fun. There are design ideas some of us have that might make it more fun for some people, i.e. SP or a separate cluster of servers where multiple boats can join in the same session, so that you could have someone to cover you - in the case that you don't want to log out...
But, sheesh dude saying others don't have lives, are in-valid, or "live in their mother's basement" - not a way to win anyone to your cause. Maybe the devs will listen but thats another story. You don't sound like a guy who is cut out for Multiplayer Gaming. Maybe you need a new hobby. Might I suggest TV? Or SP games with a pause button?

  • Singleplayer with progression would create a farming server where players can get loot with no risk.

It would change the game as people would farm when after loot and then go online to fight..

Adventure mode would turn ultra hostile because everyone sailing is there to fight and not collect loot...because why collect loot online with risk when you can do it risk free? Right?

Because of this it wouldnt work.
Not unless its totally seperate and have zero progression.
However, then there would be no point in getting loot.

So its unlikely going to happen because of this.

  • Also remember, 50% of the value of the loot is the risk of loosing it. It feels so much better to cash it in after a hard chase or battle. :)

  • I used to think that Rare should never add a PVE server but my mind has changed on that topic, and this is why when in adventure mode on PC server it is dead we will go for hours without seeing anyone just stacking loot with never any issues at all no one is playing on pc servers any more thanks to the streamers and pvp players have pushed the pve players to xbox only servers so the game is really dead now on the pc servers, so why not just add a pvp server with a ton of ships so ppl can go at it non stop and a pve server to do the other stuff mainly for the new players in the game to build up, arena just isn't pushing pvp anymore its just ppl who farm ships where is the fun in that, Rare needs to do something I keep running into the same ppl over and over again on the pc servers its getting old and the streamers are not helping the problem they are part of it, Rare is going to have to change something Steam isn't going to bring a lot of new players they just play a few times then off to something else as they just get annoyed with the game, the game is so boring anymore on the pc server thanks to everyone always killing the new players when I see a new player to the game I always do my best to help them and even have given them all my loot to show them the game is fun to play

  • PvP is part of this game. If that is too much for you to handle then maybe PvPvE games are not for you.

I assure you I am not a single kid living in my moms basement. Actually even if I wanted to live in my moms basement I could no since she lives in an apartment. I am an adult who owns their own home and has my own life responsibilities and I have no issues with how the game is. Also not a streamer, even though I have had people tell me I should be however I play games for the fun of gaming, not to make a career out of it.

Do I run into people who take this game waaaay too serious? Yes. Do I run into the occasional sweat who has seemingly made a full time job out of playing this game and being a D-bag (the two are not correlated though lets be honest they are most likely a D-bag in all areas of life, cant blame SOT)? Yes. That is any game however, not just this one. As far as hour long ship chases, to me that is so fun, I love when people chase after me. If you do not it is going past an hour scuttle your ship. If you have treasure do outpost drives by's first. You should not have that much treasure on your boat if you are solo'ing it.

As far as getting kicked for being AFK, that is one thing in games that does annoy me but they do it because people try to AFK to exploit the game. One thing you can do if you will be gone for a few minutes is try spinning in circles.

  • @xx-mirth-xx true they could definitely have it so if you want to play tje story mode with other players sailing around as well at the same time
