Well, You're Getting What You Asked For....

Let me know if this bug-fixing update with absolutely no content is everything you wanted and more... 🙄

...because I can assure you that it probably won't be. 😏

EDIT: To be clear, I'm not against QoL changes and bug fixes, but I am definitely not looking forward to an entire month of essentially no new content - if this becomes a trend, I fear pirates will willingly start throwing their ships into the Shroud out of sheer boredom ala Bill Murray in Groundhog Day (where he repeats the same day over and over again ad nauseum)...

  • To be honest, it is what I wanted and what I would like to see going forward. If content isn't ready, I'd rather see them polish it than rush it out and just add more issues (as they have been).

A dry month every now and then with a focus on bugs and QoL is good for the long term health of the game - and the developers (less crunch).

As for content, there is plenty of it, just a lot of hardcore players grind the heck out of it in the first few weeks so have nothing left to do.

I think we've been spoiled for the past year or so and it's given too many players the sense of entitlement for more, more, more!

  • @galactic-geek

If the improvements are significant enough this will make me a happy camper, for me the quality of the game-play is far more important than the consistent shower of content.

To be frank, I would prefer a slower pace it would give a more varied and complex approach to the content. Take for instance: The Ashen Lords seem to be the same fight regardless of which Lord it is (haven't met them all). I rather wait a bit longer and they would add some individual flare to these type of bosses which come in a group instead of them just being reskins of each other. Take a bit more time, but make the content more varied and entertaining; they want us to do 5 of each... while frankly it is just 5 of the same and hope the name is the one you need.

  • Gotta agree with @RealStyli. I've been hoping they would slow down and fix bugs. If they didn't release new content for a few months I'd be fine with it. Every other month would be a great set up. So many bugs in the game and every month of new content adds more bugs. They need to polish the game. I've had quite a few friends slow down playing because of the bugs and it seems a lot of the streamers are doing the same. Was watching one streamer a couple nights ago and they kept getting messed over by bug after bug and they finally quit and played something else. A bunch of gamebreaking bugs is not healthy for the longevity of the game. When you die and lose battles and treasure because of bugs it makes you not want to play. Im happy they are doing this and hope they continue to do so. They are doing a great job for such a small group and in these weird times.

  • I don't know - maybe I'm jaded. For reasons unknown, I don't seem to experience as many game-breaking bugs as others seem to, so content is something that I need to keep me sustained. And I don't even grind like some do!

I fear that those asking for this update are the loud minority, and that we're actually going to lose a lot of pirates if these kinds of updates become a trend.

I do look forward to seeing what the update brings, but they did say that it was a small update, so I'm not holding my breath.

  • With everything thats going on and working from home with the covid mess, they deserve a pass.
Every update for the last 4 updates was riddled with bugs and some of them are too much to handle so if they need to get everything back in line, ok cool.
Last time they did it the results were....... no results really, but theyve tried and kept us busy with alot of events.

  • @galactic-geek I only wish that more developers would take the time to work on fixing their multiplayer experiences.

@galactic-geek I only wish that more developers would take the time to work on fixing their multiplayer experiences.

    Too true.

  • I think the reality of it is, the game launched with lacklustre content for many and Rare scrambled to add updates. Inititally, they took their time, but delivered some of the best content the game has had to date.

After the Anniversary Update in 2019 though, from the summer after that, they seemed to push a bit too much and piled issues on top of each other with monthly updates.

With 3-5 weeks between these content drops, it wasn't much time for them to really tackle problems before the next update, which would inevitably be unpolished and introduce fresh issues or re-emerge older ones - it's like trying to bail out the ship while someone else is bailing in. It often feels like the game is in Early Access.

The real world issues at the moment aren't helping but, even without them, I think monthly updates are just not working out well for the longevity of the game. Sure, they bring in players for a week or two, but the content is so lacking in depth and actual interesting design that players quickly move on to other games. The frustration at some of the bugs can't be helping, I've seen new players get hit with some of the more egregious ones and I've been an apologist at times on behalf of the game - "yeah, it's got a few bugs but they're not that common, really" - (spoiler: they are).

With all that in mind, I'm glad they aren't doing an Emporium refresh either, as I think that would really be a kick in the teeth.

Looking forward to whatever they bring in September. I'm hoping it will be in good shape with the extra time to work on it but, again, if it needs to be delayed to really finish it, I won't be the most upset.

  • I want them to slow down on the friggin' updates that breaks more stuff than it does good.

So more of this than more broken updates IS wanted.

  • For me it’s great news....I don’t play 24-7 so beating the current update in 7 days is not a reality for me.
Each update that happens I find myself doing the new content so I can finish the achievements and not focusing on the adventure I want to do because past updates where over so quickly certain achievements you couldn’t complete.

Imagine now doing the gift achievements. They are not found so easily like when they 1st appeared. I was actually hunted down recently to be given a gift....lol.

For me I want to focus on the unicorn in the game and it’s not the shrouded ghost.

Turning in the 50 wood crates in time for the merchant message in the bottle quests..is my unicorn.

I still need to work on my Athena level, finish the current bosses, and do some standard missions for the emissary.

The grinding element for the achievement to be completed are always eye raising for me. At least we don’t have to kill each ashen lord boss 25 times each like the skeleton lords at the skull fort. I didn’t complete the duchess as I couldn’t find her and when I did a non alliance crew would steal the kill.

  • Cool.

I hope they improve stock xbox loading times.

  • I don't mind one bit, I'd actually prefer they stretch it out a bit between content releases...specifically referring to story and event content, not cosmetics per se. While I play a fair amount, I haven't had time to complete or even try a lot of the newer content (much less finish up some older Tall Tales and other events)...and I am sure I'm not the only one. Be nice to have a little breather here.

  • Oh no!!!
Focusing on QOL fixes.. We've been here before and it always ends up breaking more new things than it fixes. This should be a laugh.

And live events don't interest me one bit, but many enjoy them, so that's fine. Can't please us all.

  • Nothing wrong with a bug fix patch. Admittedly I haven't been playing enough to notice outstanding bugs lately. Still seeing lots of double spawns of skeleton ship + megalodon, or kraken. Haven't island hopped enough to see if any ashen key masters have spawned at all, only things I've seen have been skeleton captains, wonder if they somehow broke it the other direction and no ashen guardians spawn either now.

  • Nah, a month will go by quickly. Also, don't Live Events count as some new content for the time being?

  • @vin-delanos Not really. It just gives you something to do. For example, catching 300 splash tails. Yay...

Things I'm working on to stave off boredom:

    1. Find and kill shrouded ghost.
    2. Capture and cook 1 shadow stormfish.
    3. Finish OoS sailing mileage.
    4. Get to lvl. 75 RB.
    5. Discover and peer into Box of Secrets.
    6. Achieve greatness at AF lvl. 20.
    7. Purchase ghost cosmetic set.
    8. Buy Legendary cosmetic set.
    9. Turn in ghost captain skulls for ghost fleet sails.
    10. Defeat ashen lords for commendations, tattoos, and sails.
    11. Complete FotD commendations.

    See! Bored already! 😅

lol - I definitely won't be participating in that event.

I'm sure there are some grinders out there who will get a kick out of it.

  • Who cares? It'll be ready, when it's ready. Besides we've had two world events come in the last 2 months, and with Covid being Covid they need more time to make sure that the things actually work as planned.

It's clear who cares and why @BaronBrr.

  • @galactic-geek trust me man. I care more about the developers well-being than getting new content every month.

  • I'd like Rare stops adding stuff for 1 year and just maintain the game.

All the salty strivers leaving will be so wonderfull :D

    5. Discover and peer into Box of Secrets. - done.
    6. Achieve greatness at AF lvl. 20. - done

    10. Defeat ashen lords for commendations, tattoos, and sails. - i dont hop servers
    11. Complete FotD commendations. - maybe, dont care
  • @bugaboo-bill What exactly makes you think that I would hop servers, much less that I would even need to?

I wait for them to spawn in naturally.

  • @galactic-geek is it really server hopping if you log off for a couple hours and come back lol. This time will be good for me to play some other games I haven't played in awhile like d2 the solstice armor looks so good but lots of work.

Ever consider that you're in the minority, Mr. Jaded-no-hitreg-no-bugs?

You really think they're going to lose players if they focus on fixing bugs instead of potentially adding new ones? For one single update? I disagree; and I think the live events might even help retrain the interest of completionists and newer players.

I think if the bug fixes were substantial i wouldnt mind it.
Nobody likes taking their car to the garage to put it through its MOT but its necessary to keep it road worthy. Same principle applies here i guess.

Id rather a month of bug fixing over months of new content with persistent bugs.

Sorry, it was not to say you are doing or guilty, was meant the way Yeah, i dont hop servers so it comes by the way and that i dont count / care for the counts.
I even dont hurry because of the cosmetics.
FotD showed me that and other events after.
It's cool to have it maybe, but i anyway dont use it.
    Maybe once or twice.
So i dont care, nothing time exclusive.
Sorry if i sound harsh, didnt want or meant to be.

Tbh, was more meant as a not serious flex about SG and AF20 😁

sorry mate, after reading a second time i also can understand it different. Just lazy german english, shame on me. 😬

  • Sure new content is always fun but I actually do not mind a bug fixing update. I actually like when studios take time to fix game bugs.

  • If the days, where we get nothing at all for the stuff we've done, will finally stop...then I'm ok with this

  • I am elated that there will be tons of QoL improvements in tomorrow's update. I personally hope some of these changes will address the "no gold or reputation" bugs we have seen too often lately.

My guess is that the huge changes I heard were rumored to be in the works will be further polished for release in September.

  • I've been getting loads of instances recently where all of a sudden I can't move at all, completely frozen, then my ship goes underwater or slowly tilts upside down or sideways or upright or I fall of for no reason and end up at the bottom of the sea then all of a sudden again things go back to normal and i'm back near the helm with no blackscreen or anything. This can last up to 20 seconds or so or it sometimes ends up with a beard error and I have to rejoin. It's not great if you're in the middle of an encounter or heading towards a rock or something, especially solo. Hasn't happened on insider.

I am happy with a bugfix update. We'll see.

  • @galactic-geek They do say they are adding live content along side the QoL imporvments.

"while rolling out a series of live events to mark the Summer of Sea of Thieves."

  • I am fine with it as long as the bugs they fix are not the small ones and no more large bugs are added so a mid month patch has to show up and fix it... again

For 1 single update? No. I just don't want this becoming a regular thing, or the norm, as I said in my initial post. If it becomes repetitive and content is regularly pushed aside, pirates WILL slowly start to sail to other seas.

If anything, and we all know this, the devs should have gotten it right the 1st time. Do you know what they call that? Quality assurance! And they're not even the only ones to point the finger at - the Insiders apparently missed things too, for all of the rubbish to make it into the live build. If Rare actually rewarded pirates for their reporting efforts in Insiders instead of simply time-played, then perhaps we'd be far better off! But we're clearly not, so...
