Arena is so fail, not even really pvp

  • I don't even know where to start...

The hit reg is the worst I have ever seen
    The pings are abysmal
You get more points digging up chest and turning them in than you do actually fighting
You get no points for sinking someones entire ship
You get 5 points for killing someone
    You don't get full crews
There should have been a new player curve put in where people need to meet certain expectation before even being allowed in there, you have so many people who don't know what they are doing at all it's crazy
There is no risk, you can accumulate titles and such just for being around, and killing people, dying has no decrease in your infamy

You might as well have made this part of the pve world, because it is more pve than pvp.

  • The arena is not a pvp mode.
Its a condensed version of adventure for players who dont have much time to play and just want a quick game.

Agreed 100%!!!!!! Oh and don't forget you can simply AFK your way up the rep ladder and earn gold at the same time. The current mode encourages a cowards play style where they dig up chests and run run run away to turn them in. This all pushed me to UNINSTALL SOT until the next big update. Hopefully they'll get it right.....someday.

Edit, nah, don't believe that for one minute, you get titles that revolve around gun and sword fighting. The real world game doesn't give you the titles in arena, it's a totally different uniform.

  • @mc-leggers dijo en Arena is so fail, not even really pvp:

Because in Arena it is not killing by kill, it is killing to get something.

  • Nobody ever said that arena was a pvp only mode so your whole argument fails at the first fence.

The reason that chests gain more points than the fights should tell you, very much in layman's terms that arena is not pvp mode.

It should not be this hard folks

  • @mc-leggers

You get no points for sinking someones entire ship

Points are lost when your ship sinks. But you do not get points for "sinking a ship" because players do NOT sink ships. Water sinks ships

Exactly! If you are looking for PvP then you need to go else where, in fact a whole other game to be precise. There is no incentive besides stealing someone's loot to do PvP in this game including Arena mode. Oh well, womp womp womp.

  • @mc-leggers the arena is not a PVP-mode per sé,

Its a competitive mode and has never been advertised in any other way.

Yes due to the small map with 5 ships pvp is a give and especially with only one map. But that does not make it a pvp mode just way more pvp oriented.

Also the hit reg thing is being worked on actively and as joe told us is in testing as we speak.

Not ising open crews will and getting crews trough discord or xbox lfg can give you better pings (because you can choose players from your region) and that way you can ensure you have a full ship.

Open crews is always a coinflip because it can place you on servers outside your region and people can and will leave at any point during the match

  • Yup, no PvP incentive here. No points/rep/gold for it in Adventure and Arena mode only gives you a measly 5 pts for a PvP kill, but if you deliver your billionth and one chest then you get a 1000 pts. So yeah if you looking for PvP then best to try a different game.

Except when you google "Sea of Thieves Arena" almost every article on the first page of results either has "PvP" or "Player versus Player" in its title or first sentence. There is also two wiki sites dedicated to sea of thieves that describe Arena as PvP again in the first sentence. Just pointing it out that almost everybody has said this is PvP.

  • @karloss00 yes and in a way they are not wrong, its a competitive (as RARE specifically calls it everytime) mode which pits players against players to get the highest score.

But it isnt specifically PvP as people see it, PvP is usually seen as combat, fighting, guns blazing etc

Which yes happens alot in arena but is never said to be the specific goal, the specific goal is to get the highest score by outplaying your enemies, dig up chests and outsail, or let someone else dig them up and steal or stop them from selling.

Tl;dr: Yes its pvp but not necesarilly the shooty shooty bang bang type. Its about players making sure they have more points then other players as soon as the time limit ends

  • Devs have plans for the arena. They're coming up with ideas to bring the brig and sloops to the arena. Most likely they'll have their own game mode since they didn't like them going up against galleons. They're also working on disabling x-platform if you wish, and also the hit reggies. However this is the current state that arena is in. Personally I like it, but I won't deny that it has it's flaws. I joined a game with only two ships and I happened to be the only crew member on my team. The others must have left. After three spawn kills, I scuttled the ship and left the game. I didn't let it stress me out, I decided to move on.
You can choose how you want to tackle the arena. It's your decision if you want to quickly dig up chests and drop them off. You can also sink a ship before or after they've collected chests and snatch them. You can board an enemy ship while they're busy having a canon fight and potentially wipe them out. Dropping off chests are the way to go to get first place, but you do receive commendations for weapon kills, cannon kills, finishing games, getting first place, stealing treasure etc. If I know that I have a clueless crew, I focus more on those.
I'm sure everyone in the thread knows this already but I'll post regardless.
    Happy sailing matey's.

They should worry about actually having good stability first, game is too old to have the insane pings and terrible hit reg

Actually, if you are getting all technical, the npc's literally tell you to fight, they have dialog around it, they give you weapon skins, there is only 1 title for digging up chest, and 2 for placement the rest is for fighting. I don't see how it's that hard. The other merchants only give you skins for participation on clothing, not weapons. So...yeah

  • All the quibbles.
Seriously, although i dont like it too it is of course PvP!
    Player play versus other Players.
The point is: not to kill or sink each other, but to make most points.
And making points you do by digging and delivering chests, shooting cannonballs on ships and killing players.
You also loose 1000 points if you sink.
So it's all about PvP, but not a Deathmatch.

  • @mc-leggers mate, fighting for loot is the most PvP for that E I have ever heard. Yeah your main threat in Arena is another ship, but you get most silver for chests so it’s just pvpve again and this argument is a joke. The most rounded ship when it comes to Arena specifically in pvpve wins not the pvp central mates. Those guys lose most battles to the PvE mates as they sell chests. But the man who does both wins over all. So get yo head out of the gutter and see that it’s PvPvE like adventure!

  • Arena is no pure PvP mode as many appereantly think.

It is SoT in a smaller area where action is confined in a higher pace. This i think is mainly for the streams.

U watch arena and stuff is going on within this 24 minutes.
U see action, u see tactics, boards, kills, fighting ships etc.

If u want adventure mode u can sometimes wait more than 1 hour to even see one of these things because the adventure streamer might just be laying and wait to fish for hours on end.

In arena what u get is the fast paced action packed viarity of adventure mode.

And the chests altho i think can be implemented diffrent. U cannot remove them from Arena.
Getting chests is one of the pillars of SoT.

    • Found chest should be sold at outpost for supplies. If u do this in my opinion. There be lot more PvP going on. So even more action.
I think this was the intented idea since selling a chest give u 1k silver and sinkin u lose 1k silver but get new stocked supplies.
  • @mc-leggers
It was never a pvp mode. It's a competitive mode. Hit reg is a problem everywhere, and it would be extremely hard to award credit for sinking a ship.

  • The more I think about it, the more I realise how off topic it is. It's like everyone is using the mode as an excuse as to why it's terrible. It doesn't matter if you think its pve or pvp or pvpe, not even my original point. Digging up chest for points is lame. No one asked for that. The broken mechanics need fixing. That goes game wide. If you're going to put in combat atleast make it playable. That's the big problem. No one wants to watch a hit marker go off 5 times on a person who never dies. No one wants ping spikes and lag because the company refuses to fix it. This game came out a half done project and almost flopped on the spot. You figured rare would have learned a lesson from that. New ideas and solid products get good results in playerbase. This is not a new idea or well put together. It was a mess on insider and a mess now. To everyone else holding some kind of grudge against it saying it's pve sounding all mad and bitter, it doesn't matter what you call it, it's broken and needs to be fixed. People should not be rubberbanding off ships, they shouldn't be warping all over the place, hit registration should be alot better, and you shouldn't have to start a solo galleon and wait just to get a ok ping. That is lazy development. It's just like these add ons they put in. Tall tales and fishing..I mean this has to be some kind of joke. It's a remake of everything that's already existed, just a different tag of items. It's lazy.

I would argue that you can get gold for pvp in adventure mode when you kill/sink someone and steal their loot. Why bother with arena ?

  • I know, it's become a leave come back, leave game
