Sorry to say this but I bought and played this game this weekend and I have never had such a bad experience in a MMO before or a more toxic community. i spent the whole weekend being chased by other players with no chance to get use to the game at all. people would tell me they are friendly just to get the chance to get their whole crew on my ship and kill me. the main issue is the game has no chill time, spot or zone in the game and if a player decides to chase you then you have no choice but to engage him. I refuse to let people hijack my time like that. good by sea of theves. I won,t miss you and I wish I could get a refund.
sorry but this game is trash
@mightytimmeh yep, this game is as brutal as it is rewarding, and is certainly quick to remind you of that at any possible moment.
Sorry to see you had such a negative start to the game. All I can say is that there are plenty of decent folk out there. Some will want to help, others will want to fight (but at least be sporting about it).
I hope you keep going with it, because as I said above this is a really fun and rewarding game to play. I'd recommend looking out for LFG posts on xbox or even joining the official Sea Of Thieves Discord where you'll find other friendly pirates to team up with. You'll have a far better experience with a full crew.

Hi,
Well the clue is in the name and the game description on Steam for example, states; "Sea of Thieves offers the essential pirate experience, from sailing and fighting to exploring and looting – everything you need to live the pirate life and become a legend in your own right. With no set roles, you have complete freedom to approach the world, and other players, however you choose." Guessing you didn't bother reading that.
Sea of Thieves...a game about pirates...who by most accounts were/are quite toxic...despite that, there are plenty of kind players out there, oh well, now you will never meet them.
Those players did a great job on you and were doing what the game intends to facilitate. Nothing toxic or wrong about it. Your attitude and perception is actually the issue here - not those that pirated you or the game itself.
"I won,t miss you" - I think the feeling is mutual, but you might be jumping ship a bit early here, especially when you could join an alliance or scuttle your ship if you are being chased. That all said, it happens...that's the point.
Goodbye & good luck.
You don't have what it takes
A game isn't bad just because you aren't good when you start out. None of us were any good when we started.
The game is welcoming to all but not all personalities will not thrive on the seas. You have to be able to take a loss out there. You have to be willing to put in the work. Blame the game design all you want, blame the community all you want, but it's you being ready to quit in the beginning as soon as struggle starts that prevents you from enjoying the game.
@wolfmanbush You also have to admit. When we started (if you were day one like me) no one was good. No one was experienced.
These days there’s plenty of people who are crazy good with tactics like double gunning, infinite bucketing etc. plus it seems everyone forgot the pirate code includes teaching new players who just came to the seas.
Instead people simply sink the poor new sloops instead of offering a helping hand like the code says

Yeah this game is NOT friendly to new players (despite that being a part of the pirate code)
It’s people like that which forced this game to have such low ratings. Sorry to see you go friend.
Hi,
I disagree. It seemed friendly to me.
The Pirate Code is quite subjective - which is perhaps an issue in itself.
You are right that it states that we should "Respect New Pirates and Their Voyage Ahead. May the old legends help to forge new ones: treat new pirates with respect and share your knowledge."
But it has a caveat that is very open in that we should do this but that it does not extend "(beyond that stirred up in the course of a pirate's everyday activities)" - this is very ambiguous. It also uses the term "Crew", thus technically the code only refers to your own crew...
Not only that, but it also states "The sacred bond between crewmates should never be broken, but even when waging war across the decks of rival raiders, all crews should ultimately hold one another in respect." - The issue with this statement is the word "should", thus it is not a mandatory rule, mainly because if it were, then the game would be undermined in it's premise as a heavy PvP game.
Respect can mean many things...I respect those who attack me and deem me a worth opponent to do so.
Also, somewhat contradicting that code - we have the Code of Conduct which states "Be a good sport. Sea of Thieves is a pirate game, and stealth, stealing and battles are all part of the fun. All pirates on the seas accept that, but be a good sportsman in both victory and loss."
Then we have the Devs commenting saying "People attacking other player's ship, and people stealing items off players and making their getaway and stuff, it's obviously, that's absolutely acceptable as part of Sea of Thieves, it's a shared world, its always been a shared world, it's always been the intent that there is gonna be risks when you are out there on the seas. And so that kind of player behaviour is absolutely within the spirit of Sea of Thieves." - Essentially rendering the flawed "Pirate Code" as useless and impossible to follow if we are to follow what Joe the Dev said and the code of conduct.
Cheers

It's never been easier to thrive out there.
More events separates people. More voyages separates people.
More players fills the servers with new players and non- hostile players and players that aren't skilledMany ways to profit now not just 1 event that everyone fights over.
We are pirates not knights. Our codes are not universal.
