Worst patch. Time gating has no place in SoT

  • This is not an MMO. The whole point of time gating content in an MMO like World of Warcraft is to con players into staying subscribed for longer because the game has a monthly fee. Its a disgusting way of doing things that every player dislikes. The concept is "well were not going to put out enough content to keep people busy so lets drag the experience out as long as possible" For the exact same reason they dont allow flying in WoW for a whole year because you move 3x faster with fly.

This could have been a fun holiday patch but Rare knew some of us would just do it all in 1 or 2 sessions and be done with it. Was it done this way to combat how easily and quickly PvE discords do the stuff? because the long grindy part of 400 skeletons is open day 1. You give us a new voyage week 1, 2 , 3 but week 4 is the only week we can get credit for doing the voyage, you need to kill greymarrow to complete the voyage and on week for you need to complete all voyages and kill 5 greymarrows so if you do the content week per week in the really sad trickle release format than you just wasted your time. SoT already takes enough time away from people. I am sure im not the only one who has been glad the recent patches havent had time limited content so we can casually do it over time because honestly its been nice not having to play so much. But now to have to wait to redo the same stuff we already complete when you have other games patching and new releases etc. This is just a terrible way of doing things.

Please dont ruin the December event by time gating that too. Also the way you are doing the event tab is horrendous im sure people spoke out about how bad the summer event one was splitting things into categories just makes it look clunky.

Shouldnt have to go 6 pages deep to see what we are working on. 0 reason that these icons need to be so large as well. Is this for the sake of xbox players who might be on a 13" tv or something? i dont see why everything in the menu has to be so large. Please hire someone with UI experience

  • @magus104 time gating is fine. I prefer that some content be locked forever. Also the event is 6 weeks long, so the shortest window is week 4 at 3 weeks long.

And the event tab is horrendous. A scrolling list that moves completed to the bottom and leaves the top shorted by percent completed would have been way better. I cant imagine the layout helps xbox players any as I use a controller and its still awful.

    i know the wow feels

however time gating is not only profitable for subscribe based games which this game is aswell as im pretty sure xbox gamepass owners can play sea of thieves with the monthly game pass and is one of the most played game in xbox

why do they add weekly things? to ensure players come back to save others from leaving

nobody is interested in playing in empty lobbies

im unsure about the recent sea of thieves patches as im taking a break from sea of thieves to level new toons in wow for the upcoming expansion

but time gating is scummy yes but i can never blame developers for it

  • I was worried about doing different things each week, especially since I will be on vacation next week - but then I saw that you have more than just the 1 week to do it - its continuous throughout the entire event. This means that the objectives are spread out so that you don't feel pressured to do them all at once. So if you miss a week, you still might be okay, and the separate weekly objectives are fewer too so that you can complete them in a much shorter time-frame.

The only thing I worry about is taking on the 400 Shadows of Fate throughout the entirety of the event. I already repeated the 1st week's voyage 2 or 3x and have only defeated 23 of them so far. And I really want to avoid having to do the FotD. 🙄

As for the new Events menu, it definitely could use some work - menus within menus is quite tedious. I don't mind the size of them though; what really gets me is that a lot of times listed are listed for specific time zones instead of being translated to local times. Even weirder, some of the events are listed on local time. I would like for it to not only be consistent, but for all of it to be listed in your local timezone so that there's less confusion or math involved. I know it sounds cliché, but - other games do it, so why can't SoT?

  • I hate the time limit set up. Work and family schedules prevent me from playing certain weeks. Instead of letting the player choosing when and how they want to play the event is making the decision when they should play.
I missed the devils roar release while gone for work for 6 weeks.
