Passive mode at outposts.

  • So I was sailing and got 1 puzzle quest and completed it. I got 1 chest of sorrow and was going back to an outpost when 2 gallions started fighting there. I decided, well I can jump off my ship there and let it crash into the outpost while I sell my chest. But I failed. 1 of the gallion crews saw my ship and killed me and took my chest which took forever to get. so when I get back they laugh at me and sell it. And I'm betting that this has happened to other people at outposts as well, people camping until a pirate comes along so they can kill them and steal their loot. So I am wondering if we can have passive mode at outposts so people can't camp and steal loot that people hard earn. (It also goes with the pirate code since it DOES say to settle fights on the sea) So please Rare (and Microsoft) get passive mode at outposts.

  • So you see 2 galleons at an outpost and you still choose to go try to sell there, while being alone? I am sorry but that just wasn't a clever decision. You could have kept going to the next outpost if you did not want to take any chance.

This is a game about pirates, piracy will happen. There shouldn't be any safe zones in Sea of Thieves, that goes against the core concept of the game.

  • Ahoy @itsbentacular! Welcome to the forums, and thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, pesky piracy like that is one of the game's intended features -- you always have to be careful to make sure you don't get hoodwinked by other players! For future reference, try to steer clear of already-occupied outposts. Best of luck for the future!

  • Rare said from the beginning no safe zones. We can't have this on the Sea of Thieves as it would be damaging to the overall Sea of Thieves concept.

You need to put more thought into the way you're handling your treasure. Why go to an outpost where there are ships already there? You could pick a different outpost.

Poor gameplay decisions by the player do not indicate a flaw in game design. Loot doesn't belong to you until you sell it, so its your responsibility to protect it until the moment you press the button to turn it in.

  • Have you considered trying to sell it at another outpost? Sounds like you played yourself here. Rather then admit your own error, you come to the forum and ask for a solution to a non-problem.

Take it as a lesson, don't sell loot when other boats are present.

  • Why anyone would even attempt to sell loot at an outpost when there are ships there is beyond me.
And then to ask for a safe zone 😂

  • Sees 2 galleons fighting at an outpost

"Yep, this is the perfect place to sell my chest".

  • Everyone missed the part about the chest of sorrow they got. At least the ship didn’t flood and sink. Seen that happen to a newer player before. I say newer player based off this suggestion.

Would you walk into a bank that’s currently got a shoot out going on inside??? This was simply a learning experience on the players part. I think we know what they won’t do again.

Sometimes you will work hard to get loot but that just makes the experience more fun and creates this sense of anxiety and paranoia. Nothing like hitting a good score but you see the sails on the horizon billowed and coming for you. That’s what makes this game shine over others. The emergence of gameplay.

This reminds me of players saying that their little sloop got destroyed by a skeleton galleon. The seas be a harsh mistress. These moments are what make you better. The reason players don’t level up in this game is due to you yourself gaining skill in all situations. How to outsail another ship. Learning all the islands will make riddle maps a breeze. Learning the sea itself and recognizing the islands and knowing which direction to head without even looking at the map table.

This was a good training moment sailor. Now get back out there and be more pirate!!

I was going to say just this, but I would like to add that pirates are pirates, you can never know what the other might do, so think the worst and try to get profit of every situation. You are a pirate in this game, so every strategy counts, pirates have no honor, it's all for the fun :)

We don't even trust alliances', no matter how long we have peacefully co-existed. You can't trust anyone who isn't on your crew, even then you need to be wary.

  • @archangel-timmy Correct answer.

  • @itsbentacular plz no this is a terrible idea, just dont be so silly. if you are the kind of person to ask for passive mode maybe you should just avoid fights instead of run at them then complain when you lose

No. Instead why don't you just learn from your mistake and... I dunno... not try to sell treasure at an outpost infested with pirates?

(It also goes with the pirate code since it DOES say to settle fights on the sea)

No. The pirate code is a guide for promoting a healthy community, and that portion of the code suggests that people should keep their rivalries in-game.

So please Rare (and Microsoft) get passive mode at outposts.

    No. Git gud.

    Correct answer.

  • Won't happen

  • @itsbentacular What everyone else said. Don’t beat yourself up about it though. Everyone here had to learn this the hard way too. I’ve lost my fair share of loot like that too. Doesn’t help that they laughed at you. Look at it this way though - in the end, you learned a valuable lesson.

I saw on your profile that you’re new to the forums. Welcome! I’d suggest browsing around here. You could learn a thing or two just by reading some tips or experiences the guys and gals on the forums are willing to share.

And don’t worry. In a week you’ll forget all about that chest of sorrows, but you’ll never forget the lesson and you came out of that experience a better pirate. Good luck!

They mean keep it in the game...don't take it to the real life

  • It's a troll.

  • @itsbentacular , hy, matey! As a fairly new player myself, i'm still learning the hard way. The real flaw in here is that you get to the community too late, and the game doesn't give inspiring advices to newbies on how it is intended to be played, until you learn dieing a lot or leave in frustration. Have written a post, mainly to share with new players like me what i've discovered so far:

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/81865/noobology-guide-to-yer-pirate-way#

Read it, if you feel like, maybe share your thougths..

    Anyway, don't stop sailing!

  • @itsbentacular Not only should you have gone to another outpost, you should also be looking for mermaids as you approach any island or outpost. There are many clever pirates out there that will go to an outpost, scuttle their ship on purpose and sit and wait for someone to come to sell. If you see a mermaid or even a random powder keg somewhere that it shouldn't be.. I'd be very Leary that someone is waiting for you. :)

  • @itsbentacular you have not earned what you aren't able to trade in.

BTW I am sick of you folks, doing risky actions wich make you fail and instead of learning to do better you demand a change of the game. Come on!

  • The game is both PvE and PvP...i mean i say it all the time . The game literally tells you that you can bump into both.

    Dont like the idea.

You could have used youre ship to keep sailing by the outpost and swim with youre chest. Being aware of youre surroundings will save you losing loot

  • @ItsBentacular
I'm not trying to sound condescending but it sounds like you just want the developers to change the game to fit your needs.

You took a chance and failed spectacularly. It isn't the games fault it's not the other players fault it's completely your own fault. And in stead of learning from it you're making a forum post asking a developer to change this.
