Hi, to be honest, at wits end right now with these forums for several reasons, but now its sorta boiled down to some main points that just j*****e in the wrong way, you know.
Ill first of list some key points I'll be talking about, with the more important ones I believe first.
- The general hate towards cross platform, and what system some one wants to play on.
- General negativity towards the game and the community
- The Sea of Thieves forums as a second hand info booth
- Clutter of reposts of same topic, or reasons to post a new topic because of threads were shutdown/dead
- Users that are general negative to be negative, trolls, and necromancers
- Locking threads
- Anything else I can think of
So to start this off, I want to say, force cross platform is good. I dont care. Its not CSGO or some twitchy shooter or some jank.
The general negativity towards PC players because mouse and keyboard and Specs and such is sorta of a b****r for me, I have met some amazing people on these forums, dont get me wrong, but it just seems more people just dont like cross platform because PC players and the age old question PC vs Console.
This is where indirect negativity and such plays a part, if someone wants to play on a certain system let them, no need to bash on them or say we need to remove your ability to play with your friends and such, cross platform is still an experiment in my eyes, and its going well, but some people on these forums just dont like them. @PersonalC0ffee once said along the lines of...and dont quote him or me, but basically it was along the lines of how much hate PC players get on these forums and its basically is a b****r towards them, and me, and for those that enjoy playing the game on their pc but with a gamepad, and so on.
Its in general leads to toxicity, and toxicity feeds into more toxicity. The deckhands try their best to contain it, by locking forums and banning people, but sometimes, that isnt enough.
Now the next part, might touch a nerve. Some people like to just p**p on a game just because they had a bad experience or they can, trolls basically, and it can lead to big fires happening.
The problem I have is why some people have good points and valid arguments, its when it devolves into pointless name calling and causing a ruckus, leading to bans being issues and locked threads happening when they didn't need to be locked.
Which is a problem.
Another major problem with this is creating dummy accounts to troll and cause misinformation and such. Someone pointed out that the Destiny forums because how negative and cluttered it got, made it where people that own the game, can only access the forums. Then like a flip of a light switch, it got much nicer, and a lot more game based and helpful. Why cant this happen? For those that own the game, or have gamepass? Id rather see this happen than more needless bans on accounts that in reality, shouldn't even be here.
Ok Ok, what do I mean by a second hand information center?
Well think of it this way, all the information is mainly posted on their twitter, and we are left with what the community, us, are willing to post, and not the game developers themselves.
Thanks to @Kat-Truewalkerr for always keeping us up to date the best you can with all SoT news and such, especially telling us its our last chance to finish THD! But thats simple. The problem is, we dont get direct info but a few threads open up by a few deckhands, or a link to something on twitter.
We dont get say a post on the Ebon Pistol livestream (Ugh...I know...bringing this up) Or about the chips ahoy promotion! It was us the community that informed us! But still, its just another community member, it doesn't have the blue background or the eyeball to know its important like the deckhands/mods get.
So why do we get second pickings? You guys made this forum, use it more often. Inform us about updates and whats going on more often here, than twitter, or hell, just drop a link to the twitter that links back to this on the game dev page to atleast let us know you changed something, or posted a video. Small things can go far you know, like the ammo box being moved.
Oh boy...reposts and such, this will mostly be about cross platform posts and safe havens and so on posts, we see these more often that actual fun and interesting posts. If I wanted that kind of experience I'd actually get up on time. With a good chunk of posts it seems to be talking about cross platform or something we have talked about several HUNDRED times before. With a mega-thread (or really...was) dedicated to the discussion to the topic of things, but even with it around, a few drops escaped, as in a few drops, a post or two a day. With it closed, those few drops now make a puddle. It gets to the point that we have talked about every angle of it and its tiring. Leading to a round and about argument of needless things, when the whole point of the game is to have fun. These forums are for discussion, not to basically bully people because they want to play PC, or Xbox, whether your new to sea of thieves, or whether your sitting there being the sea police. I'd like to see personally, those threads sorta locked, because it typically leads to more toxic actions (I can even say I took part in those toxic actions.)
Oh, and stop necroing posts.
So, this goes back to what I said about someone talking about Destiny's forums, why do we allow people that do not own the game, or have a subscription to gamepass on these forums? for more valuable feed back? I doubt it. With the forums being like it is, it leads to people who just want to cause unrest, and cause flame wars. Why? It leads to people that dont even own the game, to argue about something they saw in a article and just keep at it.
I'll just end this point here, or else we'll end up talking about the beating on the dead horse gif.
Locking threads, why does it have to be manual? Why not auto lock threads past a certain date if it remains inactive? Why dont you delete threads? Just in general questions from me, a user on these forums have to the developers of the forums.
The last points I was going to say, were covered on the previous points.
I'd like to give another massive shoutout to some of my favorite forum users for just in general being fun and talkative.
@Kat-Truewalkerr for just being one of the more cooler forum users, just a all around sweetheart and a joy to read their posts.
@xGODKEVIN @PersonalC0ffee for just defending pc players and the playerbase in general (I know there a few more, but I cant remember usernames right off the bat...I am sorry.)
@Sir-Lotus for keeping us up to date with E3 and a few other tid bits! And being a general positive person in the community
Just, the forums in my honest opinion, doesn't hold up to what needs to be accomplished for a game that the forums were made for.
The forums should be a way to keep up to date with the developers and whats going on with Sea of Thieves as a whole, but its left to us as a community, to pick up the slack of the developers. Which information can slip even from us.
This is no way hate towards Rare or anything, I enjoy this game, I'm very excited for SP00PY SKELE SHIPS! and Volcanic Ash! The new Brig ship and ROWBOATS! (there better be a achievement for doing a race with them) but I just feel these forums could be handled better.
Its been real guys, but I think I'm going to take a long needed break for these forums, cheers!
