RARE: Fully Disclose Your Policy Regarding Hackers/Cheaters

  • Rare and SOT developers have been stating that hacking and cheating will be dealt with....but the community isn't informed of the policy.

I call on @RareLtd and Microsoft Studios to fully disclose the policy regarding actions taken against players who hack or cheat.

Is there a policy in place to just reprimand, or is there a policy....IN WRITING....to actually ban bad actors from the game?

Please provide the community this information.

    Thank you.

  • They've stated pretty clearly, I believe in the last podcast (available on their youtube channel) that both RARE and Microsoft's policy on hacking was tolerance-zero and that accounts would be banned.

They were also asking for people to keep reporting appropriately so that actions could be taken.

I'm seeking their official, written corporate policy.

"If it ain't in writing, it's a lie."

Verbal assurances are next to garbage.

  • @drayman86 In all fairness so it non legal binding writings on forums. Aha theres no difference.

  • I'm sure you'll be able to find Microsoft's legal stance on hacking somewhere out there.

Thanks, but that's not the official internal corporate policy I was referring to. There are very, very likely written internal procedures on how to deal with these matters. THAT is what I seek.

Is there truly a method to prohibit bad actors from playing the game? I have my doubts, since you don't make money by limiting your customer base.

    Quoting the specific part;

    "Cheating

We have seen a few reported instances of cheating, where players are compromising the game client or using programs to gain an advantage over other players. Everyone should understand the seriousness with which we treat this, and anyone identified as taking part will have action taken against them, up to and including permanent Xbox Live account bans. We have a zero tolerance approach to this.

Investigating: We are investigating and have detected some instances of suspicious behaviour, and will be taking direct action against anyone abusing the game in this way. The number of people we are currently investigating who show suspicious behaviour make up an extremely small portion of our player base. Work is ongoing against this as a high priority, once we are certain we have identified people cheating we will swiftly ban them. "

  • @drayman86 Those don't get to play outside. Thats not how internal works.

Thanks again, but I'm to interested in what's published on Rare's website or social media accounts.

There exists an internal, written corporate policy on the matter. That is what I'm asking Rare Ltd. and Microsoft Studios to fully disclose.

I gotta ask; Why? That statement is from the Executive Producer of Rare, and it states clearly, that cheaters and hackers are always banned.
What would be accomplished by reading a formal, internal message that basically says the exact same thing, but in lawyer-speak?
I'm asking because your point seems to shift a bit from post to post. In your OP, you simply asked what the policy was regarding cheaters, but now you want internal policies disclosed.

  • no company is required to tell you anything about their punishment system.

on top of that, this game doesnt have hackers. theres a video of some idiots who were later banned, and the casuals who die a lot are using it to feel better about their own failures.

    Once again.

Rare needs to publish the Rare Ltd. and Microsoft Studios official corporate polity on hackers.

Internal documents and policies are not public information, that is why they are called internal. You will not have access to said documents unless you are an employee with sufficient authorization.
You were provided a link to xbox terms, which would also apply to sea of thieves, you claim you want to know the internal procedures on how to deal with these matters, they are not going to release details of how they identify cheats. How they deal with cheats is to ban them. you are not going to get anything more from them other then the official public responses they have issued.

    Full disclosure? Never.

But Microsofts, and by extension Rare's stance on cheating and hacking is zero tolerance. It's always zero tolerance. No major game developer or publisher has a grey area for just a wee bit o' honest cheating.
The process for finding and banning hackers is slow because there's often a human element to it, but that doesn't mean that Microsoft, or any publisher isn't committed to banning confirmed hackers.

Again, where's your proof? The only confirmed player count we've been given is 2 million. If you make the claim that hacking is abound, rampant or even a genuine concern for us players, you have to prove to us, and the developers, that there's a significant amount of players out there actively using hacks.
And, forum posts claiming to have encountered hackers is not tangible evidence. It's anecdotal, it proves nothing.

The developers on the other hand, have told us that while hacking has occurred, it has been extremely limited, with bans being rolled out to players confirmed to be hacking.

  • @drayman86 this whole thread sounds like you want to make a hack that breaks the game and you dont want to get caught. If that is the case, your a child.
Secondly, like everyone has said, they dont even have to tell you they have a zero tolerance or anything in the matter of how they deal with hackers, hell they could've kept their mouth closed, and just ban people without warning. Its their game, not yours.
Stop griping and whining. They dont have to tell you anything. Your lashing out, wanting something that the public should've have, and wanting only that causing problems for anyone else here. Just stop. They dont have to tell you how or why or what they do for hackers, spammers, or anyone.

Also hacks will exist in any form on games. Wanna whine about sea being a new IP only a month old, just learning to crawl with hackers? CSGO still struggles with hackers, PUBG is flooded with hacks. Hacks will exist. Not telling how they deal with them is an edge they have to REMOVE the hacks.

  • @drayman86 I think many of us understand what you are asking for, but it is in no way a big F* to us as players or to the community. Many other members have posted videos and XBox Lives TOS and description of how cheaters are dealt with.

I know you are not requesting the "PR" response, but many times even with shareholders there are NDAs and documents labeled "for internal use only " these documents are normally covered by legal and allowed to be released.

Many many many times companies like rare are as transparent as they can be. In this case the transparency is the Xbox Live TOS and their videos.

This is a brand new game, with new mechanics, new way to play. This isnt your day to day FPS with assault rifles and PDWs or akimbo pistols. This is a game involving ships, with sails and such.
This game works for the most part.
There will always be issues. The more issues you find, report them, send a support ticket. Let Rare know its a issue, and they will get around to fixing it.
You and me are nothing more than a consumer. They are not bound to please you. They could've literally given you a game with nothing, but they didn't. I knew for the most part what I was buying, following the trend of most modern games. Open/Closed beta, release the beta product with a few addons, release DLC, call it good.
Destiny did the exact same thing. Destiny for the most part turned out alright, after 3 years of care, and expensive DLC.
This game is atleast giving all the dlc out for free. Be happy your paying for a 60$ game with a freebie season pass.

@drayman86 I think many of us understand what you are asking for, but it is in no way a big F* to us as players or to the community.

    I payed money.

    For a product.

    That doesn't work.

    Sucks to be me.....right?

Also, your asking how they deal with hackers internally. Not pointing out how the game is broken.
